- So you wanna see what the crew areas look like?! I take you to see the crew gym, mess, bars, games rooms, etc.
Please excuse the lighting. I’m at sea so the waves mess with the focus ;)
As always if you have any questions or there’s anything you want to see, let me know!

:)
Seems like with VOOM on Royal Caribbean ships, there is enough capacity now to make internet free for the crew. Or at least a certain amount of time per day. I would love to see this change for the crew. The crew works so hard to keep guests like me happy and I feel that it's important for the company the work for to provide a way that isn't cost prohibitive for them to contact their loved ones back home who they may not get to see for several months.
Not gonna lie no matter how long the days were I sure do miss working on the ships! Man was it fun
Me too
Awww this reminds me of the first ship I worked on .I was a singer dancer for Royal Caribbean
Wow!
Good video I'm glad the staff is well cared for
AS IT SHOULD BE. You all are amazing !!!! *Thank you for your service.* I just returned from my first cruise (age66) I had a fabulous time I cannot wait to go on more
I love cruising, and often converse with employees while on board. I love hearing their stories, and it always makes me want to tip even more. This looks like a RCI ship, by the uniforms of the employees.
Exactly that's my wife and I decided to tip the bartender a bit more even though we bought the drink package deal. Service was superb yet his pay was crap.
You think Royal will pay more because they charge more.
Its clearly a celebrity ship, if u couldnt tell by the giants logos all around... maybe ur blind
Its a Celebrity Ship the big X logo on everything is a dead giveaway.
@@MauricioGMe I'm not blind, but I do wear glasses. Didn't notice them though. Thank you for your reply. I guess you just threw the insults in to be extra kind?
as good as the crew treats us customers, they should have free access to the Internet to keep up with family and home. plus their food and drinks should be free because we sure waste plenty. thanks for the tour. hoping to get out again soon, love carnival cruise ships
Our food is free, but not when we eat in the restaurants the guests pay for (the speciality restaurants). The internet is a bit discounted but nothing really to write home about. Free internet would be amazing! Instead we just search for it in port. If you really pay attention, you'll see crew in the terminals etc on their phones and laptops- you'll know they found free wifi, lol. Thanks for cruising and showing the crew some love :)
I don't cruise foreign ships only American ships because they half to follow American laws.
@@louishollandjr lmao. Which ship do you cruise on that is registered in the United States? I think there might be one , two at the most. They are all registered in foreign countries.
Carnival is the ghetto of the seas.
They have free food. Pay attention. We didn't see the crew rooms. Stupid narrator.
That weight room made me very happy
Cruise crews work hard appreciate all of you. Thank you. Keep it up
....coming from a Navy frigate, that looks like freakin' paradise!
Huh. Life on cruise ship is very hard since you dont have a day off and you work approx 10/11 hours per day.
That's it...?
Well go there and finish your contract and reply me here your opinion about life on the cruise ship.
the point was he's done much harder work, for longer hours...
navy do much harder stuff i believe
Michelle Tim--a suggestion on how to avoid the "waves mess with the focus." It's not the waves. It's the auto exposure system in the camera. Avoid shooting with a window or the sun at your BACK. Always face the window or the sun or lamp or whatever light is present. If you want to light from behind, you'd better use a flash or light aboard the camera to balance things.
Yes it is like a prison with alot of fear and bullying from managers and officers over the crew/workers.
I disagree, there are many great managers and bosses.
Simple, informative,concise...super work....and a nice voice
Never been on a cruise because of an irrational fear of open sea but always been keen to go, as long as they promised not to move the shIp!! Love your information and style thank you
Better than I thought it was. Sometimes you get a glimpse from an open door in the passenger corridor.
I like your cruise videos and thanks for posting this one. It really filled me in!
This was really interesting and informative. Thank you.
I have many Filipino friends working in entertainment on cruise ships. Thanks for giving me a better idea of their living conditions.
I have cousins that work in cruise ships as the guys that clean rooms. They get a decent pay though.
Thanks for sharing I've never been on a cruise ship biggest boat I was on with my canoe
I love your vocal tone! You really sound like you’re a teacher. And this is coming from a teacher 😂
I think she mumbled her words. Like a lot of Americans do. Drags her words out. Speak clearly and quite loud. And in perfect English. Take your time when speaking. Take Care.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing nice crew living area in cruise. Seem like cruise really take a good care of the crews
Looks ok for the crew, I didn't expect it to be as nice as the customer areas but better then I thought this area would be.
I suppose the sleeping quarters are pretty basic but adequate for sleep away from the all the people traffic and music and so on.
I've been on oasis of the seas and allure of the seas and took the all access tour on allure and saw the produce in i 95 in the freezer. I also saw my head waiter from dinner walking around :)
I’m coming aboard very soon. Thanks for the videos and helpful tips!
I''m starting work on a ship on Sept. 01, 2019! Getting prepared now! Thanks for your video, can not believe you got over 1 million views!!! THAT'S AMAZING! Congrats on that.... :-D
It isn't all a glamorous life. Be cautious. And you'll work nearly 20 hours per day. Enjoy! I would not do it again. Not allowed to mix with guests (unless its work) and not allowed in guests rooms. Unless its work. Enjoy your voyage.
@@darrylashton8428 he started over a year ago lol. i’m sure he knows
@@darrylashton8428 Thanks for your comment, I only lasted 3 months on the ship!
Yes! :-D
@@toddstraveltips7801 why what was the problem please tell me because I'm about to start mine
Aaawww what a trip down memory lane. Thanks Michelle!
Still looks pretty similar, eh!?
+Michelle Tim surpringly some places didn't look familiar. I think I'm getting mixed up with the EQ.
Many thanks, your video help me so much, I'm a Future crewmember, so this way I can get more knowledgment.
thank you for the tour Michelle :)
I use to work on the Vista Fyord cruise ship and it does look very familiar our crew areas.
It's better than I imagined. Not a 5 star hotel but it's look better than most land jobs
After spend 3 years on a Navy ship, this looks awsome.
it looks a lot like the inside of a prison
{I was just going to say that) With 2 bars...??? =)
still way nicer than a navy ship. i lived on one for over 3 years
It's not that bad. Remember that most of the people who work on the ship are from places that these conditions would be considered fabulous as is the pay.
Still better to a crewmember than a typical cruise guest.
Way more fun than prison
The last 2 cruises I have been on doing a tour of the entire ship for about a 30.00 fee. You go to the engine room/ dining room/ the plays, or backstage. Laundry room/ even up top to the Captain's bridge. Even saw the Captain's private room, over all a cool tour.
I did the same, but I just drunkenly wandered into places until the crew stopped me. Which by the way was much farther than you’d think. I was on one deck for about 15 minutes before anybody said anything. Lol it was fun.
you look amazing
A family friend once worked as a pianist on a cruise ship. He told that he hated it, not his job but the place where he stayed and the conditions in general. Then again it was like 25 years ago so probably it was even worse...
Ive been inside the crew areas it was an excellent excursion.
Pool on a rocking ship, sounds like fun.
You live on board? Nice to know you don't have to swim to work.
In Europe some people do have to swim to work
Hope to see you on my Dec 18th cruise this year!
What a lovable narrator! (she's tremendous!)
Nice and clean too!!!
this looks so fun!
Interesting video. Thanks from Orlando Florida
She just sounds so happy about the crew having to pay for so may things out of their pocket......
Hi! Thanks for the video. What cruise line do you work for? Cheers!!!😊
Hi! If you don’t mind replying, what cruise ship was in this video? I just got back from a Royal Caribbean and absolutely loved it! Thank you for this awesome video.
looks like you are enjoy your job. good vid
I was looking at a job as a photographer onboard, any suggestions?
Look at that! At 2:04 someone through out a crew member!
hi! i've heard a lot about not being able to take pictures/videos in crew areas, yet so many people do it. what exactly are crew member not allowed to do, other than obvious things like saying who they are in shows and stuff?
this video is brilliant
What Cruise Ship is this?
Yes I've always wondered what the hidden parts of these ships look like. Not as bad as I imagined but not luxurious either.
I went on a celebrity behind the scenes tour and I saw the crew bar but I don’t know if it was this ship. It looked similar
The picture of titanic flooding and sinking reminds me of the crew passage. Impossible to navigate in case of an emergency.
That’s true,I work on Royal,Celebrity,Crystal all the same
Hello Michelle,
I am interested in learning more about working aboard a cruiseline and would like to learn more. The do’s and donts along with what cruiselines be apt to be accept new applicants. Along with required skills, degrees, or even mandates and so on. Hopefully I am not requesting too much. Thanks for your educated assistance.
ASk me about working on a cruise ship!
Hello thanx for sharing this information with us. Well am refrigeration technician from India and working in kuwait. I would like to work with cruise line. What is the best way to get it
Real question: are there elevators for staff to get around and about? I'm thinking of getting a purser job but I broke my knee 6 months ago so stairs are currently a challenge...
Where does the crew move in and out of guest areas to perform their services?
what line do you work for
this may be a silly question, but do you need any sort of college experience to have this job? i’m studying psychology, but this looks super fun and like something i’d totally want to do. what kind of work experience is needed for this job?
How do the crew members find time to enjoy themselves when they're always working? And their off duty hours are between 11pm and 6am? Surely they're too tired and just want to sleep. But the American host/lady does seem to mumble her words through the tour. Not a good speaker or talker. Maybe it's her broad American accent? But I was a restaurant manager and social host on the former cruise ship QE2. For three years. Very cramped crew cabins. And hardly no privacy. Working on these cruise ships is really for the young. Ideally in their 20s. Not for an older or mature person. But all I did when off duty was sleep in my crowded cabin. But my years on QE2 were between 1987 and 1990. Things may have changed for all crew members. Might be more humane. But the only good thing about working on a cruise line is you get to see the world. Well, most of it! Depends what ship and route you are signed to. Bon Voyage. Happy Sailing!
Didn't mention the ATM machine in the game room. I wonder what the foreign transaction charge is to use it?
Your crew areas are way better than what we had on NCL Pride of America
Your ship was built in 2002, only Carnival keeps them longer.
Hi, just curious, how many crew members borrowed the ship you work on? Thanks
she should change the incinerator room to energy Reclamation room to make it sound more green.
Welcome aboard, mate, you'll work 25,000 hours a week, without it being overtime,no insurance or gold star benefits,if you don't like the accommodations, long walk at the far end, thank you
TKS for video, I wish to apply for work with some Company, How can apply?
What ship is this?
Question does the "able sailors" aboard the ship get there own room ?
Does the crew get to eat the food that the guests don't eat or do they throw it out?
Really interesting video! Sharing this into my Facebook group. Hope that’s okay :-)
I am thinking about going on a cruise I live in Europe and what to do to get a good deal 😎
Working on a cruise ship is only a short term career choice. Even as a staff member the hours are long and the money is shit! BUT! I went to places I only dreamt about and met some great people. Same shit, different port...
Captain Howdy sorry. But many of us have worked on ships for YEARS, and have made incredible money. Yes, we have given up relationships, and a normal life....but we LOVE what we do and please do NOT sell us short!!!
I started out as an assistant junior purser and 15 years later I am a 3 stripe officer. The money is good.
@@bbmco1969 The women where I used to live compared to the women on the ship is night and day. The women on the ship look like models mostly compared to back home.
8 years i was figth as worker carnival cruise line an that is my last ship.. Paradise..
cool, i heard about a lot of people retiring on cruise ships. Have you seen many of the same people; like guest who live on board?
Looks nice. Question? Why was everything basically empty? I would like to see the berth areas as well.
James Purcell day time- people working and off the ship :)
Very nice for the crew...God Bless.
Marcus LeeP your the 1st person who has said God bless ,nice to see
Gaberilla Sandoval Amen !
Wait you live onboard? I thought you lived being towed in a dingy behind the boat.
2:22 It looked like Fool Butler at first.
How about if 1 of the guest become friendly with the crew and hangout to get a drinks by the bar area?. I heard the drinks are super cheap
So you still have to pay for the meals / drinks?
At every turn, management is saying "We couldn't care less about you." They should be ashamed of themselves.
Penguin, it's been that way for YEARS. She also failed to show the actual crew bunks. Think of a prison cell with a regular door. Seriously. I've seen inside one (posted by a crew member) and it had bare walls, no carpet, one tiny locker for TWO people to share and two absolutely bare bunks.
largol33t1 I really like my cabin. It's small but comfortable. You can decorate the walls and I got a nice blanket for my bed. Had a bunch of pictures and some fairy lights. It is super small, but it felt cozy.
When you're used to seeing the guest areas of a ship, crew areas look dull. But that's because in crew areas things are more functional than fancy.
I really like working in a Cruise Line. I would've never spent a few hours at the beach in places like Aruba, Antigua or St Thomas had it not been for this job. They're amazing places but I would've never saved up to go there. So I'm super excited about all the places I getting to see for free.
True, you don't get a lot of time off, but when you have the right break at the right place it's awesome!
It's not for everyone and it IS a lot of work, cause I work around 10 hours a day, but I still like it.
(Also, I always get paid my over time and I never have over time over the legal limit)
Ok. NO management has EVER said that. I’m sorry you worked for someone who did. That’s ridiculous!!!!
Are you paying for a cruise? Because then you get luxury. This is decent: luxury is when you pay
I swear I always wanted to do a documentary about crew living - not like they could talk, but...
ye . working on the QE2 in the early 90,s we had a bar .... that was it . no need for a gym . if you didnt work hard enouth on shift you got another shift , and internet we had to call home when in port non of this facebook stuff ..
Do the crew still get a personal butler ?
What ship are you on and what do you do there?
Do you have to pay for your food or is it free?
Are there no carpets on the floor down there because it makes it easier to Hose Down all the STI's and Vaseline residue ?
:)
great video
Is food for the crew free? Are the drinks cheaper for crew and if so, how much?
yes and beers are around $1.50/2ish
im just wondering how much the bartender at the crew bar makes
pool table on a boat?
Chop Z. Right? That is one thing that has got to be off
Chop Z.
Yeh, they move. They self balance.
Modern cruise ships come with sophisticated stabilizers, so unless the ship is going through a particularly rough storm you won't really feel the ship moving
It's no shit cruise ships self balance. But the game of billiards is a precision game, and playing it on a moving boat will no doubt throw the table off balance.
OMG this is similar to my last home!! hahah
Where do you keep your car?
Which ship is this
how much does it cost o use the net?
I really wanna work on a cruise!
How did you get access to film these?
Can't help but notice Michelle that you are very expressive with your hands, do you do sign language ?
myfeeling4you nope. but I work with kids- some who don't speak any English so hands are pretty critical. It's like signing, but not. ;)
myfeeling4you
Michelle Tim that's nice you work with children but when you are with adults ( like know ) speak like an adult - not like you're speaking to a 5 year old
know, now do YOU know the difference NOW ?
+Kevin Sweeney a hand job ? what are you 13
