- This episode I'm sharing my journey making handmade Italian panettone - one chocolate and orange and one classic traditional panettone with citrus and dried fruit. This is a cosy Christmas baking video with lots of carols, a fire, decorations picked from the woods near the house and three days of baking as I chat to you about life a week before Christmas and what it's like being a mother of a toddler.

Every day I get so many emails and comments asking why you can’t locate the music I use or find it using Shazam. I purchase music licenses for almost all the music you hear in my videos. I buy them them from various royalty-free production music sites and most of the time they don’t list the performer because it’s music made only for film productions with an audio watermark throughout the entire track, unless you purchase the single-use license for $50-100 per track. I use a lot of opera so often I’ll reference the opera but I won’t be able to direct you to a recording of that specific performance that you could stream or buy on iTunes or Spotify. Hope that clears things up and thank you for appreciating quality music.

My Italian mom was such a great cook. She made Panettone and at least 25 different cookies among other things. Family friends couldn't wait to receive her cookies at Christmas. She made her cookies well into her early 90's. Now that she's no longer with us, Christmas is not the same.

Every time I hear Manitoba wheat being used in Italy makes me proud as I was born there on a wheat farm and I was able to go back to the farmstead this summer after 53 years. Even though I live on Vancouver Island now I'll never forget where I came from. Thank you Kylie for the last few years we have been watching your videos. Wow. I am French and married to an Italian and we must have pannetone for Christmas or it’s just not the same. My daughters live for it and we eat about four per season. They are easy to find here in France in the good épiceries. I have always wondered about the price of a really great and beautifully wrapped pannetone and after seeing the work that goes into it, I feel like I don’t pay enough 😮😂. Guido is the best taste tester. He truly appreciates your cooking and one can only imagine how delicious each recipe must be because of his expressions and how he always compliments your cooking or baking. You can tell he loves all the recipes!
Kylie, this touched my heart. This will be our first Christmas without my sweet husband. Creating new memories while holding on to traditions. There is joy in every day and watching you working so diligently to keep these traditions in place is inspiring. I will hold my old memories close while moving forward embracing new and untried things.

I nursed my daughter for 7 months, I had to stop because she ended up in the hospital for a few days. She had gotten a bad cold and so I went to the hospital once a day to nurse. The doctor was very harsh about me coming to nurse and said she was getting to old to be nursing still. Being a young mother this was very hard and it upset me but I felt he must know when a baby needed to be weaned. I hope you follow your heart and it is so encouraging to see you keeping close to your son. Your can't recapture these lovely times. By the way my daughter survived she is a lovely 52 yr old lady,

Thanks for bringing up the 'magic' of christmas. Its true, to me, the more we have the less we have a feeling of something joyful going to happen. The magic for me was joining the local schools, where my nieces and my children went, for carol singing on their last day, especially if the weather had a tingle to it. 'O holy night' brought 😢 but the true meaning back 🎉🎉

I LOVED watching you make panettone "the old fashioned" way by hand. I made it ONCE this way myself with my late husband (who was a very good cook) decades ago. Lots of fun, very tiring but worth it in the end. My favorite "giggling" memory was the step at which the recipe directed us to add the next ingredient but we couldn't easily extricate our hands from the sticky dough to move forward easily. Taught us to appreciate the bakers who made the panettone we purchased for future Christmases! Buon Natale e grazie for all of your lovely videos.

After 14 months of not sleeping, five hours now seems like an eternity of rest!! 😂
I love special Christmas books! And my kids did, too. When the grandchildren came along, I started the tradition of taking them out of the Christmas decoration bins and wrapping 24 of them in Christmas paper, then randomly numbering them and spreading them around the living room. It’s become an ‘Advent calendar’ to open and read one after dinner every evening! It seems nobody gets too old or sophisticated to hear the favorite Christmas stories again!! Then on Christmas Day each kiddo receives a new book for themselves under the tree.
(We give each of them something to wear, something to use, something to eat, something to listen to (Dad/Grandpa Drummer chooses that), and something to read (my pick !!) I love Christmas all month long. 🥰🎄
PS: I started some Panettone this evening. Wish me luck! 🤣

I grew up as a missionary kid in Peru where the Italians imported panettone at some point and it is also traditionally eaten at Christmas! And it’s my husband’s favorite which is perfect because with his December birthday he gets panettone instead of cake 😊. We also visited Italy together in November 2022 and had some of the best panettone of our lives! Your panettone’s look beautiful and delicious and I am so impressed with your skills, bravery and wisdom imparte at the end. Loved this even though I’m watching in May! 😂

I can totally relate to you on the sleep I kept telling myself to just get to the next milestone. He’s 2.5 now and still isn’t a great sleeper. My daughter was a terrific sleeper. My husband isn’t a good sleeper and I could sleep through anything! We’ve tried everything he’s been to sleep doctors and consensus is he just is who he is. Many prayers your next child is a terrific sleeper 💕

It wore me out watching you make this. Making home made bread was one of my favorite things to do. I even tried panettone once. I loved working the dough with my hands but I also had a stand mixer to do the heavy lifting when I got tired. I cant imagine doing it all by hand. I was always tempted to add more flour to make it less sticky even though i knew better. You are truly amazing to see that through!!! Im dying for a piece. It looks awesome.

What an ambitious baker you are! The video is lovely with a fire burning in the kitchen and fresh ingredients set in beautiful pottery dishes. Guido is quite lucky to be tasting such delicious panettone and soon Gianfranco will follow his dad. I have always loved panettone, my husband gave me a Fiasconaro zafferano e agrumi panettone in a Dolce e Gabbana lovely painted metal box. A delight for the eyes and for the tastebuds.
