  • There is a quaint perception that Jesus spent his entire ministry - prior to going to Jerusalem where he was crucified - in northern Israel, walking along the shores of a tiny fresh water lake called the “Sea of Galilee”. But is this historical reality or theological fantasy?
Secrets of Christianity brings the techniques of investigative journalism to history, with Simcha Jacobovici connecting the dots of many academic and scientific disciplines to present a new take on the past. The series uncovers alternate truths that have either eluded us, or been kept from us - until now.

Now look at the scriptures (preferably the original Greek with direct translations to english that are easy to find online) and see how Simcha misrepresents the Word. Start with Luke 8:26. It's obvious, but he's relying on people not to look things up but to be drawn into his sensationalized fictions that make him money.

There is literally no evidence that Jesus traveled outside of modern Israel other than being taken to Egypt as a child. Sant Orozco We are only the LIGHT if we are in Him, if we are born again and have believed in Jesus and all His supernatural origins and credentials. If we have not accepted that Jesus died to pay the price for our sins, have repented of sin and asked Him for forgiveness, and asked Him to be our Lord and Saviour then the Light of the World is not in us. He said, Matthew 6:23 (NKJV)
“But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great [is] that darkness!”
John said, "9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."
      - John 1:9-13 (NKJV)
The Kingdom of God is only within you, or among you, if you receive the King Himself. That means accepting Him as He says He is, not a reductive facsimile the world has made because it could not comprehend Him.

Great piece of work. Fascinating. Gadara was not the only place where Jesus didn't get a hot reception. His home town was the other. The beginning of John's Gospel says he was overwhelmingly rejected. "He came to that which was his own. But his own received him not." I disagree with those who say this analysis in this documentary is disrespectful to the Scriptures. Its whole agenda is that we read the texts and work out what they're saying. Luke was very interested in portraying the Gospel reaching the ends of the Earth - hence Jesus' trip to Gadara and the end of the narrative of Paul's missionary journey poised with is intention to go to Spain. I don't think the Gospels were embarrassed for Jesus by his reception in Nazareth and Gadara. They didn't have to mention those events at all if they didn't want to. They just told it like it was.

Would Christ cross the sea, even in a tempest to save one man? If you've read the Bible, all of it, you know what God will do, for those he has chosen.
This tv show is... well, it is deception for those who desire to believe lies.
A simple reading of Matthew defines exactly where Jesus was when this journey occurred. But it is not imperative that it be this place or that place. The gospels exist to reveal God to us, and us to our sin, and from there, the path of redemption through faith in Jesus Christ. The people of Israel hated Jesus during His time of visitation, and they still hate Him today. But Jesus said, "Many will come from east and west, and recline at the table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven; but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
It seems there is already gnashing of teeth, about 44 minutes and 3 seconds of it. The Father is merciful and calls ALL to repent. His mercy is not small, it is large enough to cover your pride, your sins, whatever they are.
Life is unpredictable, some of the people who have watched this video have perished, and if they perished with these lies, they are lost for all eternity. I pray that someone who reads this would see truth for the first time in their life, and that they would turn from their sin, their traditions, their culture, and put their faith in Jesus Christ. Bibles are everywhere, read the 4 gospels, they'll tell you who Christ is, and what He requires of you. It is easy, the easiest thing there is.

He thinks of a theory and finds a way to support it and that means dishonesty and often bold assertions with no evidence. That's not how science or any sort of academia works.

While I can agree on the part of Jesus' similar event to that of Jonah, I disagree with the direction of story that the authors of this documentary were heading due to following reasons:
    1) Jonah was in fact tasked by God to embark on a mission to Nineveh located somewhere between the borders of Turkey & Iraq. God wanted Nineveh to repent so they can avoid God's punishment.
    2) Jonah, most probably young and stubborn at that time, did not like the idea of going there. Then he decided to escape heading to the far opposite direction which is Tarshish or what is also known as Cadiz or Gadir or Gadara. But Jonah did not reach Tarshish after he was taken by the big fish, and after 3 days agreed to God's will to go Nineveh.
    3) The priority of Jonah's mission was Nineveh and NOT Tarshish.
I think the authors should have studied a bit more and deeper about Jonah first before connecting his experience in the boat with that of Jesus. Following questions should be given light:
    - Why God asked Jonah to travel to Nineveh in the first place when he could've chosen someone else from there or nearby place to be a prophet & with whom people of Nineveh could've recognise and follow?
    - Why did God specifically cared for Nineveh instead of the people from surrounding cities of Turkey & Iraq? Were these people part of the lost tribes of Israel? What was God's possible purpose of doing so?
    - After the authors tried to connect Jonah with Jesus all the way to Tarshish/Gadara, it made me see the other side of possibilities and ask: Why did Jonah chose specifically Tarshish? Was it just really a mere impulse of escape route, or was it Jonah did have a conversation with God for a mission of which Tarshish/Gadara is part of it? God considered Nineveh as much urgent for a mission to fulfil ahead of Tarshish/Gadara. But then Jonah failed to obey God's will and God cancelled his mission to Tarshish/Gadara. Jonah stayed and died at Nineveh or somewhere around nearby region. This is also similar to Moses when at one point, he failed to fulfil God's will. God cancelled his mission, and he never got to see the sun rising in Jerusalem.
One important thing that the authors forgot about Jesus was that He was a --- FULFILMENT --- of the Old and New testament.
Could it be that Jesus's coming to Tarshish/Gadara was a FULFILMENT to God's will and not a some sort of a rescue mission impossible? The funny side of the authors was that they were quick to notice the journey of Joseph & Mary to be more of European drama, but with the coming of Jesus to Tarshish/Gadara, the authors' English bloods suddenly resurfaced and saw it as a rescue mission for a supposed victory day and party.
Lastly, Jesus is a son of man - this we all can agree without a fight (lol ). But Jesus is at the same time a SON OF GOD.
    - He isn't a prophet, nor an angel or somewhere in between...
    - Prophets : Daniel 9:24-27, Ezekiel 37:24, 25-27, Isaiah 7:14, 8:14, 8:23-9:1, 9:6,7, 11:12, 28:16, 53:5, Jeremiah 31:15... People tend to forget or rather ignore the very fact that they were highly recognised Prophets themselves, and that their words of proclamation for the coming Messiah is beyond them and their qualifications.
    - The words and life of John the Baptist was where all prophesies from old testament culminated as he declared the messiah has come. Mark 1:6-11, Matthew 3:1-12, John 1:35-42.
All the prophets humbled themselves as servants of God
None from any of them was ever capable and qualified to say that they are saviour and messiah.
    But Jesus did : John 4: 23-26, John 5:24-26, 31-37, John 3:31-36, John 11:23-26, Matthew 3:13-17, Matthew 16:15-17, Matthew 26:63-64, Mark14:61, Matthew 11:27, Luke 2:48-50, Luke 22:70, John 14:5-7, and the list goes on.....
Jesus is the Son of God... You either have to accept him or deny him and the bible.
Does Jesus being God himself also performs things by himself outside the earth without waiting plans from God the Father?
That, we couldn't straightly answer. We can only be sure of two things as the purpose of his coming to earth : 1) to fulfil the will of the Father, 2) To save humanity....

However, I am not one of those whom when you ask a question, will give you back an answer starting with a series of chapters and verses which can make you crazy for trying to catch up. I'm not a walking bible and have no desire to be one. A cultural upbringing is one big influence. I grew up surrounded (but not really tightly) with Catholic way of Christian teachings. Later on I've been exposed to few other Christian denominations, I also have Muslim friends. When I was in college, one of my major courses is Philosophy, and was a bit fortunate to have been educated about the cultures and major religions from the past. Been in few visits to Hindu temple, and few tribes in remote region. They were those some gems of education you can't just get from four walls classrooms. So in topics such us this video, my mind will naturally see important points as well as the directions. Then I could recall general topics and authors in the Bible connected to it, and that's when I start to search for specific verses to get the very details. It comes naturally fast for me doing it that way... What I like about this documentary though and the way the authors put the pieces together, is that they were really educational and really encouraged me to see other things that I may have just taken for granted. Then I realised that I craved for more answers when questions after questions started to unfold..... Life is simply too big, and we were just talking about this 44min documentary...😔😢😍

Tarshish is not Gadir/Gadara. If you cross reference Jonah’s travel itinerary with other verses in the Bible, you won’t end up in Spain. The closest way to Tarshish was via Ezion-Geber, a port in Elat at the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea. It is not through the Mediterranean Sea (to Spain). During the time of Jonah, the port in Ezion-Geber was no longer operational because God has broken the ships there with strong winds. As a result, Jonah had no choice but board a vessel in Joppa.
      2 Chronicles 20:36-37 KJV
“35 And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:
36 And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Eziongaber.
37 Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the Lord hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.”
Ezion-Geber was King Solomon’s seaport that he built for the sole purpose of travel with Hiram’s men to Ophir and Tarshish, which was about a year and a half journey, to get gold, etc. for the Temple.
      1 Kings 9:26-28 KJV
“King Solomon built a fleet of ships at Ezion-Geber which is near Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom. Hiram sent his servants with the fleet, mariners who had knowledge of the sea, to serve with Solomon’s men. They came to Ophir (O-FEER), where they obtained 420 talents of gold and brought it to King Solomon”.
      2 Chronicles 9:21 KJV
“For the king's ships went to Tarshish with the servants of Hiram: every three years once came the ships of Tarshish bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.”

Nineveh was where the 10 tribes of Northern Israel were deported during the reign of Shalmaneser V, and the Assyrian army invaded the northern kingdom, conquering the city of Samaria in 722 BC. 2 Esdras gives an account of what happened to the 10 tribes. Some stayed in Nineveh, and the rest of them God brought to Arsareth.
      2 Esdras 13:40-50
“40 Those are the ten tribes, which were carried away prisoners out of their own land in the time of Osea the king, whom Salmanasar the king of Assyria led away captive, and he carried them over the waters, and so came they into another land. 41 But they took this counsel among themselves, that they would leave the multitude of the heathen, and go forth into a further country, where never mankind dwelt, 42 That they might there keep their statutes, which they never kept in their own land. 43 And they entered into Euphrates by the narrow places of the river. 44 For the most High then shewed signs for them, and held still the flood, till they were passed over. 45 For through that country there was a great way to go, namely, of a year and a half: and the same region is called Arsareth. 46 Then dwelt they there until the latter time; and now when they shall begin to come, 47 The Highest shall stay the springs of the stream again, that they may go through: therefore sawest thou the multitude with peace. 48 But those that be left behind of thy people are they that are found within my borders. 49 Now when he destroyeth the multitude of the nations that are gathered together, he shall defend his people that remain. 50 And then shall he shew them great wonders.”

@@iTACHI270 A truly enlightening insight by Simcha Jacobovici, historic fact is always much more interesting than delusional theological imagination and invention. I would also mention on the same theme the Old Testament mythological account of Jonah and the Whale that is based on a Star Constellation. To quote as follows: " The Biblical Book of Jonah talks about the prophet Jonah being swallowed by a “whale”. He lives in the belly of the whale for three days and three nights (Jonah 1:17). He is then spat out on the shore. This is a very odd story. First of all, the original Hebrew doesn’t say “whale”. It says “big fish”. Big difference! Second of all, there are no fish that can swallow a human being whole, and even if there was one, the fish’s stomach acids would kill the poor fellow. As it turns out, Jonah was a mariner. The Book of Jonah states that he went to Jaffa, a port in Israel, boarded a ship and made his way towards a place called “Tarshish” (Jonah 1:3). Historians generally agree that the Biblical “Tarshish” is the historical “Tartessos” in southern Spain, near modern Cadiz. If you took a ship from Jaffa and crossed the Mediterranean towards Spain, in the fall or winter months, you would find yourself sailing into the “belly of the fish” i.e., the constellation “Cetus” also known as “the big fish”. In ancient mythology, Cetus was equated with a “whale” hence the substitution in later Biblical translations. According to the Book of Jonah, Jonah sailed into a storm. This makes perfect sense. To this day, sailors who sail into the “belly of the fish” find themselves in storms just before reaching southern Spain in the area of the Balearic islands e.g., Majorca. It doesnt matter what size the boat was. It looks like there was enough space for a man to lie down. And it makes sense that he would sleep if he was tired. Do you think he doubted his father? Would he not have protected him? Would some storm have been allowed to kill the son of the one true god? No of course not. Do the producers forget these things because perhaps their faith is weak, i dont know. He was safe no matter where he went or how he got there, untill his appointed hour had come and obviously it was not this occasion. And maybe it was a bigger boat. It makes no difference. I think they might be on to something about where he went though.

A truly enlightening insight by Simcha Jacobovici, historic fact is always much more interesting than delusional theological imagination and invention. In fact, one of the landmarks of Majorca is the Church of Palma de Majorca, erected in 1229 by King James I, to thank God for making it through a storm that he was caught in for three days.
Put simply, when the Book of Jonah says that Jonah was swallowed by the big fish for three days and then spat out, what it literally is saying is that he was in the belly of Cetus, facing a potentially lethal storm and then made it safely to shore. Mystery solved.
