Jesus in India, Tibet and Persia - An Account Missing from the Bible

  • Almost everything we know about Jesus is from the Bible. The four new testament gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John tell us a great deal about the events surrounding His conception and birth. They also provide a lot of details about His ministry in Palestine, and His trial, crucifixion and resurrection, all of which occurred during the last three years of His life. However, they tell us very little about the years in between.
There’s a short account in the gospel of Matthew which tells of how the Holy Family travelled into Egypt shortly after the birth of Jesus. Although the bible doesn’t provide a description of that journey, the details have been preserved in the traditions of the Coptic Christian church and a video account of that journey can be found via this link: • Jesus in Egypt: An Acc...
In 1894, a Russian explorer named Nicholas Notovich published a controversial book which claimed that during a journey through the Himalayas, he had visited a Buddhist monastery where he had been shown sacred manuscripts which revealed that Jesus had travelled and preached in India, Tibet and Persia before his ministry in Palestine. This film tells that story of that extraordinary discovery and gives an account of what those manuscripts revealed about Jesus’ journey through those countries.

My Grandmother lived in the Holy Land for 20 years and taught at a Christian School. She was a very spiritual person, knew about the travels of Jesus in Egypt, Persia and India, and talked to us about it. Also about how reincarnation was suppressed by the Catholic and subsequent Christian churches. She used an Eastern Bible.

Spirituality and religion are two different things. Religion was supposed to be a tool or method to attain spirituality. However many are obssesed with the tool than attaining the objective i.e. spirituality. Spirituality transcends race, religion and nationality. A truly spiritual person sees all human beings as one. Kindness, honesty and right living is at the core of all religions. However most time is spent on discussing which religion is superior or why one should convert to another religion. Time we respect all religions.

As a Vedantin and previous Christian, it seems pretty certain that Jesus knew who he was in the same terms a Hindu rishi would've, however Christianity doesn't seem to have any way of teaching the truth of one's self the way that Vedanta does. Perhaps Jesus was able to teach that in his day, but it doesn't really appear in the bibles we have today. Something was lost very early on. I've never met a Christian who realized the Self through Christianity.

The writers of the chapters in the Bible about Jesus could only capture what they could understand or put into words about this charismatic and inspired fellow. As would be true today, so much about a living genius gets lost in the attempts to describe them in words. And that doesn't even account for any political manipulations of the original texts over the past 2000 years by religious institutions who felt their agendas were better served by editing the original manuscripts. This is why I look to those living to inspire me, more than to those who have passed, since so much of the original spirit always gets lost with time no matter how amazing they were.

@@Artisticwhit Ironic? Your responding to a black man who claims Jesus is RISEN; he doesn't seem to be concerned with what Color Jesus' skin was. The Bible offers few clues about Christ’s physical appearance. Most of what we know about Jesus comes from the first four books of the New Testament, the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. According to the Gospels, Jesus was a Jewish man, born in Bethlehem and raised in the town of Nazareth, in Galilee a village near Sepphoris, one of the two major cities of Galilee (Tiberias was the other). That information alone gives a likely presumption of what Jesus looked like. It is through the influence of centuries of artwork that gives the blond hair blue eyed popular image. However, in a place where so much travel, immigration, and trade took place over centuries, Middle Easterners are biologically very diverse. It is a stereotype that they all have olive-toned skin, black eyes, and black hair, but in fact, many have very light skin, brown or blonde hair, and blue or green eyes, and even freckled complections. Esau, the progenitor of the Edomites according to the Hebrew Torah, had red hair, (even his name means red). Not every presumption people have regarding the appearance of others are based on racisum. But racism can be found behind every tree if one is looking for it, and intends to find it. Christ died for all, and that is what the Bible has always taught.

Thnx so much for this movie.... over 30 years ago I used to travelled to the himalaya mountains for climbing. In the Indian part, I came across villages, where Issa has been... I haven't seen scrolls, but definitely I saw temples built in stone 2000 years ago... the locals told me much about him, and the man they described, matches so much the Jesus we know... kind, full of compassion and helping the poor. The teachings matched the new testaments statements. One of the locals even told me, that he was called Yoshua Ben Josef (son of joseph) befor he came to theire village, and that he came from Nazareth... I was really perplexed and started to investigate a bit... in quite a large aerea and many villages, all the locals told me the same stories... it was deep in the mountains, no electricity and you have to travel there by foot (at the time I was there). Why shoud monks built a "fake" Jesus temple in stone far away in a inaccessible mountain area 2000 years ago? That would not make sense, if it wasn't for a very special stranger, with his holy charisma... right? I believed this locals for shure, they live for generations with this believe and Issa. That this is a difficult topic for the church is understandable... it would question alot... may to much for them to bear... (some friends also laughed about my storie, when I came back from the himalayas) I'm grateful I had this incredible experience, and met this monks and locals... it changed my whole spirituality. I also visited the house of Nicholas Röhrich to see his marvellous paintings... he found his shambalah and settled there... near to issa's former living place... thank you for telling the world about this....(sorry for my English, i hope you understand it). P..S. in they 80's there was a German book, "Jesus lebte in Indien".. that matches your story totally...

The New World of the west, North, Central and South Americas, were unknown then, but the Indians might have met Him and knew him by an Indian version of Jesus’s name. Who is to say? Blessed is he who has not seen but yet believe.. with God anything and everything is possible.

I responded by referring to information read in a book - by S.A Jewish author Mike Tellinger titled "Slave Species of god". In this book the author mentions Jesus called *Issa* being in India & Tibet and the problems He encountered in India.

      2. There was no caste system in vedic era and Buddha era of India only in later mughal and British era doesn't exists anymore.
      3. "lower caste were not allowed to temples"!? Temples allow all religion , casts, colour, gender and serve free food.
      4. There are 60+ sects in hindusim lot of them contridict each other yet we never had any conflict. not all Hindus belive in idol workship. It's allows atheism, monotheism, polytheism, advita, vedanta, nirguna Bramahn, charvaka etc.,
We use to have debate sessions with Buddhist, hindu, Jain, ajivkas, vedanta and other believers in India and the one which was most appealing people followed them.
Showing Indians tried to kill him? Lol makes no sense.

@@aromalsbabu8896 Jesus did not go to the west to spread eastern philosophy for a few reasons. One, it is not right to compare him with prophets anyway, but He did mention the prophets. Two, to say that his ideas were based in eastern philosophy is a mistake. In the Ten Commandments, there is a ban on idolatry- meanwhile, idolatry was and is acceptable in Hinduism and such. Helping the poor isn't an idea that naturally stems from a caste system because the reason they are poor is as a punishment for their past life. In contrast, caring for the poor and needy was found in the Old Testament already. Prayer is different from meditation on a deeper level even though on the surface they appear the same. Meditation is directed to the self while Biblical prayer is directed toward God. In meditation, meditation often involves the emptying of the mind. In the Bible, God takes the yoke of our suffering, and God is the focus of meditation, such as explained in Psalm 1:2 and Psalm 63:6. If this account is true, it makes more sense that He taught the proper precepts of God to the West and the East. But that's a strong if.

Maybe thats true but truth is subjective. Everyone I met has a version of what they believe to be the truth. Perhaps the most basic truth can set us free, something we all know something we can all see without question. Like Love, we are all born loving people, literally requiring love to survive and certainly to thrive. I spent years being taught that what my family believed in was the one truth. Then I spent years trying to understand what all religions agree on, then I realized that most beliefs and teachings that separate one group from another don't even matter. What matters in this life is Love, we can all agree that love is our true nature, Love is the only truth that I am passionate about. I do not believe God will judge us on the details we are taught which vary for many reasons. God is Love, knowing that means so much, it means understanding, it means it doesn't matter what religion you choose to believe but what is your heart, so stop obsessing over whats true and Love All Life all creation. That is what I believe and what is true for me. The details are fun to learn but it doesn't mean anyone else is wrong for what they believe. Thats my philosophy, I wish the days of teaching fear would end. Love is all our world needs. Love heals All Things. Love expands, fear retracts, lets just be a bit more loving today! I Love you all my friends. Enjoy Life, Giving is key to happiness. The more you give the more you will grow, and expand.

Agreed! Surely, Jesus passed several spiritual phases in his life. It's very much possible that Jesus traveled to the East before his final arrival to Jerusalem, as the Quran has documented and addressed him about his divinity claim. I hope this research does not stop here. And may those Buddhist manuscripts get translated and come to light in this information era, so humanity can benefit from the discovery!

Very interesting. Since the 1960’s there has been a constant study by Western monks of Buddhist forms of meditation as compared to Catholic contemplation. I’ve read about this a lot and I’m not saying they have the same origin, but in some respects they feel like 2 sides of the same coin. In contemplation you try to feel God outside yourself somewhere through prayer and good works. In meditation you try to feel God inside by reducing your own Ego…and good works! The historical Buddha made it very clear that he was not a god just a man who had found enlightenment and that it came, frankly, by working hard to eliminate compulsive or addictive desires from your life. He also insisted that anyone, if they worked hard enough, could reach enlightenment someday. So to me the Buddha is an archetypal Catholic Saint. Because like Plato, Socrates and other Pagan Greek philosophers, the Church recognized the wisdom and truth of their pre-Christian teachings and felt that they complimented or anticipated the teachings of Jesus. And rightly or wrongly, I see the Buddha as a holy man who helps me on my journey to find God.

There is no concept of messiah in Indic religions. Even incarnations come to set things right, uphold righteousness and show an example to people. But a jnani or realised soul is considered superior to an incarnation.
Authentic Indic scriptures, Hindu, Buddhist and Jain all stress the belief that man is his own refuge. Incarnations or god do not deliver people from the cycle of existence.
Knowledge is inherent and one has to realise this innate knowledge or sahaja jnana to be liberated.
Abrahamists ignore authentic texts dealing with metaphysical thoughts of Indic religions to superimpose their concepts of redeemer upon us. The only indic faiths that can be compared to Abrahamic religions are cultic systems with their belief in individual gods who redeem and help people. These belong to the dualistic or dwaita school of thought which sees creation as distinct from the creator. Whereas Vedanta school of thought and Buddhist-Jain thought sees the phenomenal world as a manifestation or projection of the Absolute Principle itself. One is Sthoola or manifested Absolute whereas the underlying or unmanifested Principle is sookshma or subtle Principle. Both are the same. There is no need for prayer or adoration. It exhorts people to look inward and contemplate on their real nature or swa-swaroopa.
Puranas or mythologies and popular cultic beliefs are described only as a means of satisfying an emotional need to adore and a means of hope that there is something people can depend upon.
In Hindu texts, deities are described as "sankalpa" or ideation. Buddhists too believe so. To us the Yeshuah seems like a jnani, a man of knowledge- a liberated soul and nothing like the messiah or the only way.

I always thought about this, and as a Hindu I always seen so many similarities between the teachings of Jesus and Krishna. In fact I respect a lot the figure of Jesus but I don't respect the church. But I think that Jesus was a great person who learned from Buddhists and Hindus, and christians do not have to fear this truth as: "Oh my god Christ will lose credibility" because he always teached that god is one for all, so what's the problem saying that he learned from other people worshipping the same god?

I don't think I have a problem with Jesus learning and teaching in India. However neat this would be, there evidence just isn't there and I don't feel this video answers all the questions it raises. Nor does it sufficiently prove the antiquity of the Buddhist account. Most likely this is from the 7th century at the earliest, 700 years after Jesus. Also, are you saying you find similarities between the Gospels and the Gita or some other Hindu text? In either case, I'm glad to hear you have respect for Jesus.

There really isn’t anyway for humans to fully know the truth regarding this theory in this lifetime. In college I took a class on literature of other religions. The only book we read that stands out in my memory is a book about Rama. I remember noticing many similarities between Jesus and Rama. Though, I also noticed differences. There is no evidence Jesus was remotely connected to yoga, Rama definitely practiced yoga. The Bible speaks of meditation, but that’s a different approach to meditation then a yogic, Buddhist or Hindu style. Rama’s personality changed after he defeated his evil enemy, who I equated to Satan at the time. Rama seemed to still be about love, but he also no longer seemed to maintain the humbleness of Jesus. The Bible mak s references to yoke, and I’ve read definitions of yoga that include yoking the mind body and spirit. Again I don’t know if there are any real connections between Christ and the eastern religions, though I do find the concept intriguing. Also I’d like to share I do believe Jesus is the Christ and my savior.

"The ancient Veda manuscripts speak of one who will be sacrificed for mankind "Perusha" Who is the creator of all creatures "Prajapati".
All animal sacrifices both in Vedic times in India and in Old Testament times in Palestine are shadows for the real sacrifice of God or Prajapathi (Praja = People; Pathi = god, so God is called god of people). In Hinduism, Prajapati (Sanskrit: प्रजापति (IAST: prajā-pati)) "lord of creatures" is a group Hindu deity presiding over procreation, and protection of life. Vedic commentators also identify him with the creator referred to in the Nasadiya Sukta. (Wikipedia)"

Just to add a little historical fun fact. During the reign of the Persian King Darius the Great (475BC), he build the Royal Highway was 2,857km across ancient Persia. His son King Darius II probably extended it all the way to Bactria in far east Central Asia. Hence, when Alexander invaded Persia in 334BC, he could go all the way to Bactria & Afghanistan mainly because the route was already there. The Silk Road started when the Han dynasty around 200BC went west and started contact/trade with Bactria. Hence, the caravan route would have existed for centuries by the time of Jesus. Marco Polo was born in 1254 AD in Venice and met Kublai Khan in China in 1269, that would mean that he was 15 years old, had already traveled the few thousand kilometers, from Venice to China, on the most or less the same Silk Route, even if it was 1200 years later. Lastly, travelers in Central Asia, Punjab, India in those days, would have heard the story of Siddhartha Gautama (660BC), the brilliant prince from birth, heir to a kingdom who left everything, including wife & son behind as a young man, wandered around to seek the answer to human suffering. When he found the answer, (people called him Buddha "The Enlightened One") he was also went around telling people that the priests were misleading the people and taught the people about "Truth" and how to end their suffering through his "philosophy & practices". If Jesus was ever in Central Asia, he would have heard the story and be curious enough to find out more.
Whatever you decide to believe or not, for whatever reasons, both men were the greatest humanitarians (of course, there are others too) ever to walk on this earth.

And that’s the real you. And it was on that basis for which he could say “I and The father are one.“. What the Christians did was to stop the gospel cold by saying Jesus was God but nobody else. And so for lack of the spiritual experience of Jesus nobody has been able to Live the religion of Jesus. They have lived instead, the religion about Jesus. Which is a very different thing.”

Edgar Cayce stated that the family had people going before and trailing after them for protection from Herod. Were a group leaving from Jerusalem, it would be easy to lose track of Jesus. Most likely then he would have traveled with a protective group to India. The Essenes had prepared for his birth for 400 years.

St Thomas looked very much like Jesus ( called the twin of Jesus) and he came to India in 52 AD and built many churches in India. The oldest existing church in the world is in India which was built by St Thomas in AD 52

Please check when the"church"started building churches to understand the myth of St Thomas building churches in India. Please don't tell us that St Thomas was wearing a ' cross' around his neck when he traveled across India and stopped satan by raising it above his head!

This makes sense as John the Baptist seemed to be unaware of Jesus when he asked in Matthew 11:3, "are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?" I have always wondered about this question as they are in the same family - and lived near to each other. But, if Jesus had been gone for 18 years, John would have had very little knowledge about him....

Jesus and John were first cousins, Johns father tried to make Jesus the sacrifice instead of John. This got the father of John killed. It started a splits in the family.

Actually, at the time John the Baptist said this, he was in prison and was having a problem figuring out why he was there knowing Jesus had great power. He did not realize at the time that it was the plan of God for John to depart around age 31 and Jesus at 33.

Unless Jesus simply went to work as a carpenter, living by the sweat of his brow while studying the Scriptures and praying exhaustively for guidance. John may well have regarded him as another peer - and don't forget that John himself was isolated in the wilderness, far from community life.
