Like at great football rivalry or derby, the roots go much deeper than football itself. Mexico has long standing and justifiable resentment toward the US. Their trump card for years, has been that they take us to the cleaners on the pitch.

More of the world needs to take notice of this rivalry we have with each other. For too long, people have turned a blind eye on both the USA and Mexico. They dont take us seriously when we take ourselves seriously. And with numerous players from both countries going to top european clubs and putting up numbers, it’s a matter of time before both sides earn more respect than before. In world cups, mexico and the USA have only been past the round of 16 twice. Mexico in 1970 and 1986 made it to the quarterfinals which coincidentally are the times they hosted the tournament. The USA in 1930 finished 3rd and made a quarterfinal run in 2002. But if we both qualify for WC2022, i reckon both teams will show the world that they can play football. And it helps that WC2026 will be in the US and Mexico and even Canada.
Speaking of Canada, i think they’ll be next to have great players besides Davies.

As a brit ex-pat let me tell you these "highlights" are misleading. As a Spanish language broadcast, they tend to focus more on the Mexican team so a number of nice plays by the US were not shown. The intensity level of the game was through the roof. They do not show the tough, tough tackles - Herrara should have been sent off twice. There were altercations all over the field. The Mexican coach was thrown out. The US coach got was warned over interfering with play in trying to retrieve a ball. I've watched Football games for 50 years and I will tell you this was as tough, as intense, and fought like very, very few games I have seen. This was also the 2nd youngest team EVER to represent the US in a full international. By far the majority of the US players were 22 and younger and could play for a Youth team. Reyna for example is only 18 and plays for Dortmund. Truly a great game.

Mexico deserved to win this game! played way better, had control of the ball more time, had more chances of scoring, had better players, the US players did a lot of kicking form behind and on top of all that they called a penalty that didn't exist and no one else in the world would call it??!! What can you expect the refeeri was from Panama??....I really wonder how is it possible that most of the American players from the US play in Europe if they aren't that good?! The only time we saw Pulisc playing was when he scored the penalty?! The rest didn't really do anything good/different from any other players. Compare to Mexico that has very good players like Tecatito corona, el chucky, Lainez, etc...The Nations League was invented so the Americans could win something since the Gold Cup is the Concacaf real CUP event and Mexico wins most of the time. Pulisic and McKennie are both the captains of team USA for the moment but it’s looking like many want McKennie to be the main guy as Captain of team USA

I never want attacking players to be captains, I’d rather let them concentrate on scoring. McKennie is probably the better choice

@@kabirconsiders I agree with this. I also think Pulisic already has enough pressure on him and McKennie is more of the style of player that I see as a captain...just a central midfielder that is all over the pitch...making tackles, winning balls, creative passes to get the attack going...he's just such a do it all type of player.

I don't really know much about the current squad, i stopped paying attention to Liverpool after Stevie G retired. He was my favorite player. I do know their backline is great with Alexander Arnold and Joe Gomez. I don't really know anything about the EPL anymore. Other than Man City still has money, and Chelsea won the Champions league without a striker. I'm a Dortmund fan(Bundesliga), cause that's where Gio Reyna plays, the rest of the team is stacked too it's insane. And obviously i'm a Rangers Fan(Scottish Prem) because Stevie G. If i had to pick an EPL team it would be Wolves. Although i don't agree with their buy every player from Portugal philosophy, but they aren't bad and they aren't top of the table, so i can dig it.

What's funny is Mexico "seemed" the more dangerous team, but the USA's expected goals was 2.8 while Mexico's was 2.4. Crazy how the game works out that way, lots of Mexico's shots weren't all that dangerous, and as you say, Ochoa stood on his head as best he could to keep USA out. McKennie's Header's on corners are otherworldly.
