    I don’t really need a new ATEM, but it’s great news for making live production AND the post production workflow even more accessible

    Thanks for the heads-up Doug! I was planning on getting the TVS HD8 ISO next month, but just ordered it.. nice savings! Too bad I couldn't use your link, as they couldn't ship it to my part of the world. I'll check out one of the other ways to support you, love your video's!

    Doug, I've been dealing with Sweetwater for my audio needs for years. They have recently picked up BMS as a vendor and are pushing them pretty hard as they are expanding into video production to compete with B&H and Adorama. I don't know anything about their referral program, but it's worth looking into. I myself like to do business with them. I buy from B&H because I have to, I buy from Sweetwater because I want to. Also, I called them today asking why their prices were not reflecting the BMS Sale, my sales rep said they were in the process of updating their prices and that he would give me a call tomorrow as soon as they had been updated.

    Hi Doug! Love your videos! I just bought the ATEM mini extreme ISO and learning the ins and outs of the switcher. I need your advice on a black magic product or similar to provide multiple video/ program output feed to several devices….what would you recommend? Thank you!

      Can you explain in a little more detail what you want to accomplish?

    • @islandimageandmotion

      Back in the day, I used a Video distributor amplifier to send main program feeds to several tv monitors for sporting events, beauty pageants, projectors, large LED displays, track and field etc…basically just to run multiple program feeds throughout the event….I would like that capability within a rack unit also. Thanks for your suggestions in advance. 👍🏾

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  Před 11 měsíci

      We still have video distribution amplifiers today, but they can take a different form than they used to.
      Since the output of your ATEM Mini is HDMI, and HDMI itself doesn't work over long distances, you'll want to use another signal type for distribution.
      You could go SDI -- just convert HDMI to SDI then use an SDI distribution amplifier to send that to those displays and convert back to HDMI at the display. That does require that each cable run be separate (you can't really just "split" an SDI signal, though you could regenerate it at each display). But it results in basically zero latency and a perfect signal.
      There are options to distribute HDMI over CAT-5 cables, or even IP networks. Though those do tend to add a lot of latency and those based on IP often reduce the signal quality quite a lot. I haven't found one of those that I like very much.
      Another option is to take the HDMI output of your switcher and use an ATSC encoder/modulator to distribute it over a cable TV-style coax system. This used to be really expensive, but it isn't so much any longer. This will result in pretty significant latency, though, so carefully consider whether that matters to you.

      Thank you for the advice and suggestions. What brand/ products would recommend if I go the SDI route (your first suggestion)?

      You can just get some Blackmagic Design converters. The Micro Converter 3G products will work just fine for that. djp.li/microh2s3g and djp.li/micros2h3g and djp.li/bidi3g

    It took a lot of effort for my company to become a B&H affiliate. You basically have to show them a significant referral history before they accept (we're doing like 80 referrals a day and I think they accepted at like 30 a day). Best Buy is even worse.

    Same way I am baffled, the freakin ATEM can not de-embed all audio channels from all the sources. I think, this is only an option on the largest Constellation switchers. Just add a freakin BNC with the AES3id. (At least that, nobody forcing them supporting proprietary expensive licensed Dante, plenty of other even dante compatible royalty free and open standards) Instead of the useless XLR in/out on smaller ATEM, that are useless for mixing audio. And if you happen to successfully de-embed source audio by combining the AFV functionality and achieving some reasonable mix with the severely crippled audio mixer inside the ATEM, you then have no freakin way, to embed back your external mix to the program output, so you need yet another external SDI audio embedder, because their freakin Web Presenter does not have any other audio input, other than from SDI.

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  Před rokem +1

      Most of us just handle audio completely separate of the video, not even bothering with embedded audio. The lack of a proper control surface means that the built-in audio functions of the ATEMs are kind of worthless to many of us.

    • @Sixta16
      @Sixta16 Před rokem +1

      @@djp_video In our case, shooting a street car race, taking audio locally from each camera points and using SDI to transport it to the switcher was a good simple way to do it. But I agree, that most of the time, audio is handled completely separate, so it is not as bad of an issue. But my second point is, that implementing the AES10 / MADI (sorry for confusing with AES3id, that is only 2channel, my mistake) so simple, it should have been done on all ATEMs since the beginning. They already de-embed the audio from all inputs and a AES10 encoder shall be very trivial to do, at almost no cost extra. Already more then enough FPGA horsepower and requiring just to add a coax cable driver with a BNC.
