  • I bought this 2007 Hummer H3 that was listed for $3,000. With all the other H3's out there listed for $7,000 or more I jumped right on this deal and somehow it drove home with no issues! Now it's time to find out where the massive transmission leak is coming from...

I used to work in a transmission shop. That brought back memories.
Definitely re-install trans and transfer case as a single unit.
You might go shop the Jack selection at Harbor Freight.
I remember that we always, always, ALWAYS recommended an auxiliary oil cooler for the trans on trucks. Be sure to blow out the cooler lines, minimally.
When removing the T case we’d support the trans but tilt it down, pull those back (nuts?)
IIRC, on GMs you also have to drop the exhaust on the pass side to get the trans out. But that’s all the 90s and early 2000s GM trucks

I'm 77 years old. I bought my 5 speed manual, 06 H3 last year 129,000 miles, $10,000.00. I had to replace the plastic Shift fork in my Transfer case. I removed the transfer case myself while the H3 was up on jack stands. I replaced the fork and put it back together without too much of a problem. I had to get my 25 year old son to lift it back into position as it it heavier that you may think. The H3 rolls and turns 100% better since I did the repair. Fun truck to drive !

I remember having to lift (by myself) a TH400 short tail into position under my '78 Firebird and catch the bell housing bolts ...mind you..the car was on ramps in the front and jack stands under the rear axle and i was on my back. I don't know where I got the strength but I rolled it onto my chest..lifted up and somehow did it. This is 30 years later and Im still amazed i did it.

Not me, but a friend of mine working on my truck with me, we were in the middle of doing a clutch and swapping the old blown R150F transmission in my 4Runner out for a low mile R150F imported from Japan, that came with a transfer case so we didn't have to seperate the units, my cheapo Harbor Freight transmission jack was annoying him, because we were on a broke up old driveway lifting probably 99% of what that jack was rated for, so he gets on his back next to it, says "I'll line it up, get a bolt in it quick because I don't know how long I'll be able to hold it up there" heaves the whole assembly onto his chest, lifts the whole damn thing up into position and has me stab 2 bellhousing bolts in fast as I can then stick a jackstand under the transfer case. Never seen somebody manhandle like 2/3 of a drivetrain like that before or since haha

Don't know if it was mentioned already, but that adapter that goes between the transmission and transfer case can stay with the transmission when you remove the transfer case. It's considered part of the transmission on most parts breakdown. On a 2wd transmission that's where the tailshaft housing bolts on (with the 2wd also having a longer output shaft).
