  • About two years ago, I did a video series about the transmission swap in my Hummer H2. Things were going well until my torque converter blew up. Now I'm removing it all and upgrading everything I touch. Let's do this!

    Cool video. I have a 06 h2 with a 8.1l vortec. The stock 4l65e lasted a year then got a monster transmission thats been good for long wile now. Get around 12 mpg on the highway and 9 towing.

      @@junkyardvape2957 Man, I'd love to have an 8.1! I almost got a 3/4 ton Silverado with an 8.1 a couple of years ago, but I couldn't talk the owner out of it. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Great Video! Just wondering if you had to let the computer know you replaced or upgraded the transmission? I am working on one of these with a burnt 4l65E for the first time and would really appreciate the knowledge.

    • @mohawkgarage
      @mohawkgarage  Před 13 dny

      @Scirocco44 My H2 came with a 4L60E. When I swapped the 4L80E into it, I did an HP Tuners segment swap. It was required to run and drive. I also changed driveshaft lengths, input shaft, etc. If you replace your current transmission with an identical unit, it is my understanding that computer mods are not required. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Keep the updates coming!!! My transfer case just went out and I'm looking for a replacement. I was thinking of doing this conversion too. Did the swap affect the mpg? I'm towing a M1101 trailer and get 9 mpg. Actually get 12 mpg at 55mph!!! But I can't drive 55!!!!😎

    • @mohawkgarage

      The mpg hovers around 9 no matter what I do. I sure wish I could change that!

    Any news on the 4l80e swap???

    • @mohawkgarage
      @mohawkgarage  Před 5 měsíci

      The 4L80e has been in the H2 for about 2 years now. Sadly, gas prices have made me reconsider driving it. I think I'll be selling it soon. I have a Silverado, which is a better fit for my needs. All in all, however, I think the swap was a good idea, and I would do it all again. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      I have no idea when it comes to mechanics or shops in St. Pete. That's almost an hour from me. I do most of my projects myself. The H2 is very similar to a Chevrolet truck, so it's not generally difficult to work on. Good luck! Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Dry mounting my torque converter destroyed my 4l65e under 20k miles. Never agian!

      I filled this one before installing it, along with the transmission, and it lived for about two years. Synthetic fluid, too. Frustrating.

    Do you have an update on this? Still running alright? Are your past videos still valid if someone is wanting to swap in a 4L80E? Thanks!

    • @mohawkgarage
      @mohawkgarage  Před rokem

      Funny you should ask! Turns out the torque converter went bad. I am currently replacing it and rebuilding the 4L80E. I'm doing the rebuild due to possible metal getting into the internals. I still think the swap is a good idea, although if I was able, I'd possibly go with a 6L80E. Thanks for watching and commenting!
