- Hey whats going on guys! If you didn't know, there was a offroad version of the Hummer H3 offered when it was new. In this video I talk about that factory option called the "adventure package". Let me know if you have any questions in the comments down below!

Probably a stupid question but is it possible or even worth it to install the adventure package on a standard H3 if I could get the parts?
It is possible to do that, but it will cost some money. I estimate $2800-$4000 for the parts. The two main things that you that make up the adventure package are the transfer case and axles. The transfer case you would need is the Borg Warner 4494 NR6 Transfer Case. If you can find one used they usually go for around $900 to $1300.
When it comes to the axles you could either get both or just the rear. The adventure package axles and base axles don’t have any gearing differences in them, they are the same, except for the fact the adventure package axle has that locking differential you are looking for.
One important thing to note however is there is a difference between the all the i5 H3s (3.5 and 3.7) and the Alpha V8 (5.3). The alpha has a different gear ratio which is 4.10 and the i5 has 4.56. For this reason you need to get H3 axles that has the same gear ratio as your H3. So if you have a i5 H3, get axles that come out of a i5 H3 and not a Alpha.
You can find a rear H3 axle with the adventure package a lot easier and cheaper out of the two. Usually they go in the price range from somewhere $500-$800 used. Just make sure you're buying an actual H3 axle because many of the Chevy Colorado Axles will have an entirely different gear ratio such as a 3.73 instead of a 4.56. The actual name for the Axle is the AAM (GM) 8.6 10 Bolt Rear Axle.
The front axle in H3 is definitely more tricky to find and costly. These axles were only made for two years (2009-2010) in at that time GM wasn’t selling many H3s. What you are looking for is a AAM 7.6" IFS in Cast Iron. If it is made out of aluminum, it is not gonna be 2009-2010. It will be a 2006-08. Finding these front axles can be difficult at times but I have seen them go for $1000 to $2000
So you are possibly looking at $2800-$4000. I am not sure of that price exactly because you basically have to find it first on eBay or a Part Out Company. If you can find it for the right price, I would consider the Transfer case to be a worthwhile upgrade to do, but buying used Adventure package axles may not be worth it. It would all depend on the price and how much labor it would cost to install it. What you can do instead if you wanted locking differentials, is you could just go online and just buy a new locker.
Basically you would be buying the actual locking mechanism that goes into the axle and you would need to get that installed. There are a number of different brands out there you can buy from such as Yukon, ARB, Detroit, etc. Basically just go ahead and type in “AAM 8.6 locker” for the rear axle or “AAM 7.6 IFS locker” for the front. These aftermarket lockers can cost anywhere from $300 to $1200.” I would stray away from some of the cheaper options out there as they really don't give you the performance as the factory ones would. Some of them don’t truly lock and may lock up on the street. The cost of labor for one of these can range in price depending on where you're at but could be $500 to $1000.
So overall it definitely would be costly, but if you are absolutely certain you want to keep your H3 instead of selling it and getting a adventure package, this might be the way to go. Please note by doing this, you are not adding any value to your H3 as this all would be considered standard equipment and you would not get the money back if you ever went to sell it after doing the conversion.
So that is a summary. Let me know if anything was confusing about that because I know this is probably all gibberish to a lot of people.
So if you just want take a look for adventure package parts look type in:
- Borg Warner 4494 NR6 Transfer Case
- AAM (GM) 8.6 10 Bolt Rear Axle
- AAM 7.6" IFS Cast Iron
@@4lowmode hey bro.. that a lot of work how about swaping h3 front end w/ a h2 front end and back end i see many of these h2's now in junk yard some crashed in front some in back but we are talking about a package vehicle anyways,, just a thought,, great video bro
Or buy traction boards
Finally, someone who really knows what an Adventure package is. Now there is at least 2 of us! Thanks.
Thanks yeah tons of misinformation and confusion out there about what it actually is. Hopefully more people will have a better understanding of it now!
On the Alpha option list it's truly listed as the Off-road Package, vs the Adventure on the others.
@@Jabadaw Yes you are correct. I just call it adventure package because that everyone in the community refers it as regardless if it is a Alpha or not.
me also
After watching this video I browse adds like a hawk, most show.the dash buttons, however, as you said, unless its someone that KNOWS what trim they have, requesting photos of their dash/radio area seems strange. Thanks again for making these amazing videos, however..... Where are your off roading videos?
I love this guy. They need to put him on TV 📺
As an H3 alpha owner I am very happy to have someone who really knows the H3.
Dude youre like a hummer guru lol. Good work!!!! I learned alot!!!
Thanks! I have a lot more coming!
Thanks! Plenty more in the works!
I appreciate your straight to the point style. Been watching a few vids on the H3 and this has been the most helpful. Thanks!
Good video bro. No BS just the information we want to know, thanks.
Thanks! There is a lot of confusion out there about this package and I wanted to clear that up!
We just recently acquired a low-mileage '06 H3 with Adventure Package. Not sure how much we're going to upgrade yet but you've certainly given me some awesome ideas!
I appreciate all of your videos! Thank you for helping newbies in the H3 Community.
THANK YOU!!!! Looking at getting an H3T and feel a lot more confident thanks to you and this channel! Keep up the great work. I can see how passionate you are about this. Some of us still love Hummer and not interested in the Jeeps so keep up the content. Thanks again!
Did u get an H3T yet?
AGREE 100% - btw your rules at the end are DEAD on but hey that makes it easier to snatch one off a used lot for dirt cheap :P Got an '07 with 38k (not a typo - no kidding only 38 thousand) miles + adventure package with a Rough country all steel bumper PLUS a WARN Power plant with air compressor for only 13k! I LOVE THIS THING!!!... oh and did i mention that its a manual tran. as well? Some ppl don't like this for off road but i sure as hell do...plus no expensive overheating issues like the autotrany is concerned..a cluth is waaay cheaper /easier to replace :)
I am glad I saw this video before buying. The place I bought it from had no clue what the adventure package was. So they had it as a base. I got it for 8400! Lol
Dude thank you very much for all the hummer vids I have a 2007 Hummer H3 with the adventure package and I absolutely love it it is the first one I have ever owned and I'm learning how to do things to make it better and you are helping alot keep it up please
This has been the best and most informative video on the H3 Adventure package. Thank you! Well thought out video with all the right information at the right pace.
Also, partly because of these excellent videos, I bought an 06 H3 Adventure today in that stunning Metallic Forest Green. I'll be going through all your videos. You've got a new subscriber!
Very good video young man! Thanks for sharing. I just purchased my 2008 H3 Hummer and this video helped me understand it's features.
Outstanding video, just subscribed, own a 06 hummer h3 adventure victory red, on 37 inch tires, I'm glad someone finally gets it!
37 in tires? Impressive! Do you have the 4in Rancho Lift Kit?
Excellent n Crisp info. Thanx bro. No one else explained d Adventure Package so neatly as u did. Keep up d good work. 👍🙌
This is the Best Hummer3 Video that I have came across.
Great video. I bought my H3T from a KIA dealership in Washington state for $20k because they had it listed as a base model, but was a adventure package with the manual transmission, and only 80k miles on it. Drove it all the way back to Maryland. Had it for two years now and it's been cross country twice with no issues. They are extremely reliable.
Haha yeah dealerships have no idea what they have and are too lazy to care, even after I put this video out, I see everyone mislabeling the H3 as having or not having the adventure package.
What a well done and informative video! You definitely know what youre talking about, plus have a good way of explaining it. Just bought a '10 ht3 adventure yesterday and already knew most of this, but i would feel good about sharing this vid as a great way to explain to others. Thanks for this!
I've watched several of your videos and you do a great job of presentation and sharing info/details. Subscribed!
Thanks! There is more videos in the works!
Awesome video buddy! I learned more about my H3. Nice!
Very good video. I'm looking fwd to buy an H3 from 2009. Now i know exactly what to look for.
Great video, well explained!
Hello from the Russian Hummer Club!
Hello! Thanks for watching!
What a lovely and substantial episode . Thank you! Cheers from Russia
Thanks for watching!
Great video man! Love the info, learned a bit about my H3. Thanks.
Excellent explanation of everything.
Your vids are really good. Keep it up!
Thanks I definitely will!
Awesome!! Now i understand what i am purchasing. Great information 👍
Glad you found it useful!
Your Full Of Info On H3s, Love It !
Thanks! Many more videos to come!
Wow that was some much needed and useful info. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Cool info dude! That's the best visual idea for showing how the differential works, great idea! Keep it up bud!
I will I have a lot more video ideas planned for the H3!
4 Low Mode hey I'm thinking of getting a 09 H3t adventure with 75781 mileage also is a 5cylinder 3.7L is it good and do they have any major issues electrical issues or transmission issues that you know about is because I was going to buy a gladiator but still Jeep didn't learn from JL Wrangler steering wheel loose issue and recall they had
@@AlejandroP1980s The H3T is great! I Personally I haven't heard of any large complaints about the 3.7L engine. Believe it or not 75K miles is actually pretty low as many H3s today have over 100K+ miles today. Realistically speaking the 3.7L will last anywhere between 160K to 200K before the engine needs to be replaced. That being said I have seen H3s that go way above 200k when properly maintained.
There is one widesperad electrical issue that could affect almost all H3s is the blower motor module. Basically the connector module that controls the blower motor speed for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system may overheat and stop working. So basically that means the knob that controls how much AC/Heat the H3 blows out could stop working. There are four fan speed settings: 1, 2, 3, and 4. For me personally I have my number "4" fan speed stop working in my old H3. When I tried to put it on fan speed "4" it would just turn off. So that issue isn't critical, but still one to be aware of.
If you have it in the budget I would also look into getting a H3T Alpha which has a 5.3L V8 if you are looking for more power and want to put large tires on the vehicle.
4 Low Mode no I want gas saver not really for off road
4 Low Mode thanks for the heads up
Thank you. I know what to look for now. I didn’t even know there was an adventure package until i saw your video.
Thanks for watching! Its a pretty significant feature that GM really never marketed properly and it is really hard to know what to look for when looking at a H3
4 Low Mode I’m looking now at the pics in the for sale ads really close. Am glad I know now.
@@taddmansilla598 Haha yeah! Don't believe anything they say because they have no idea what they are talking about. Just to confirm yourself by looking at the pics!
Thanks for the H3 intel. Good stuff.
Your welcome! I wish I knew this when I was first looking at buying an H3
Wow. Awesome video dude. I’m in the market for one and was a tad bit confused. The most helpful info in got here was the model years with 2 locking diffs, I’m looking at a 2009 with both, wish me luck
Very nice video!! Just subscribed!! Hoping to see more videos of your awesome H3!! You should do a walk around video of your rig, or common problems of the H3 next!
Yes those are videos that I really want to do next! Definitely will be getting to them in the future!
I am so excited, Monday if everything goes well i will own an alpha model with the adventure package, it is an 08 so only rear locker. 138k miles.
Freaking AWESOME information. THANK YOU
Awesome video dude! I got an adventure 2009 2 weeks ago
That's Awesome! You will love it! It will definitely will better than a Jeep Wrangler Sport or Sahara even with bigger tires!
Informative video.... thanks!
Good God, kid.
You know your stuff !!!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching! For anyone that has been around H3s for a while you kinda know this stuff. But it is hard for people that are new to H3s to know what they are looking at
Great video I love it makes me understand my H3 package better ✌🏾 5 ⭐️
Thank you! Glad it helped!
Maybe this is known already, but I find Alpha package with both front/rear locking differentials also. Very useful video, by the way.
I'm glad I watched this. I was fixed on the FJ for a bit for reliability. After watching this though, not for the reliability, but, it's definitely more comforting considering the features I would of gotten for the higher 2012 model FJ. I want a hummer h3 so bad, but, the Fj, in features, was definitely the better buy. Not after this video! Thanks!
You are awesome at making videos. Please keep modding and posting
More to come!
That clip at 6:53 is just amazing!! Great videos man! Really glad I found your channel!
I trully appreciate the info bro!
Very informative video! Much appreciated
Thanks!
@@4lowmode After watching your explanation of the transfer case buttons vs locking differential buttons, it’s unbelievable how many other youtubers get theirs wrong.
@@Brahbrahbrah Yep exactly. Just because they have a lock symbol on the buttons doesn't make the transfer case buttons a locking diff 😅
Thanks for the Video. Very informative!
Thanks for watching!
Very informative, definitely earned a sub.
Thanks for watching!
Great video, greetings from the Netherlands
is the best explanation I've seen of the matter
Now I really got it, well explained buddy.
Thanks!
Just picked up an adventure package through a sweet trade from a customer of mine. Your video is super helpful. Also, I noticed you have a little coin tray in front of your shifter, whereas mine is all smooth with nothing there.
Glad I could help you out. Yes so there is like 50+ differences between model years. All 2006 and some 2007s did not have the coin tray but all 2008+ ones did. I have had these vehicles for such a long time now, I have noticed so many differences between model years lol
thank you for your assistance!!! Much appreciated :)
Very nice video about H3
Thanks!
Great vid man !!!!
GREAT VIDEO N INFORMATION I HAVE THE H3x BUT I LIKE WHAT THE ADVENTURE DOES 👍🏼
Nice,Thanks. Love this video!
Great info & to the point!
New Subscriber! Looking to buy an H3 nest month. What year do you reccomend for longevity? A lot of 06/07 some 08/09 but the 2010 are hard to find. What year do you reccomend best?
Good job, thanks for that.
Great vidio man!
Solid video!
Thank you for a great video.
Love my h3 and it was so fun to tell the place i got it from after I got it what they had love the lockers if gm advertise it im sure the h3 would have done so much better
Great vid!!! Any suggestions for rust forming where the weeping hole is on the bottom of the driver rear door. The way dirt and mud form on the inside of the rear doors is crazy. I think they designed the door to be a mud flap!
Great video man.
Perfect explanation!
Thank you!
Great video!!! Tks a lot!!!
Very helpful thanks
Great info bro 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
I am loving the Channel my guy! For someone with only a few videos and 1k subs your quality and presentation is fantastic! I own an 08 Alpha and have learned a lot through your vids. Looking forward to more of your videos. Quick question, does the Alpha come with the adventure package?
Thanks for watching! To answer your question, the Alpha does not come standard with the adventure package, it was a factory option that you could choose to add on when purchasing new,
@@4lowmode Also, another question I have is about a leaking sunroof. Unfortunately, mine is leaking. Do you know any quick fixes to fix this or do you have any recommendations on what i need to do?
You may have a plugged or disconnected drain line. Look into the front corners. You can try to carefully blow them out but not too much pressure as they could get disconnected, if not already. Then you would have to drop the headliner to get to it. They go through the a-pillar and not readily accessible from underneath.
holy shit I finally understand locking differential
Great my friend 😎🇺🇸👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thanks for the infor.☺
Great video....
Amazing video
I like you man, nice video!
I watched your video on the body lift, (love all your videos by the way) but I was wondering if you had a suggestion on a kit that I could get 2-4 inches of lift on front and back. The rancho one most people talk about is discontinued I believe. I already lifted the front about an inch just by adjusting the torsion bars, so idk how that affects my options. Thanks for the helpful videos.
Great video
Well explained.... make more videos
Great videos. Thank you. Any suggestions on aftermarket front and rear lockers for those of us who didn't know about the adventure package when we bought our hummers? I have an '07 w/ 191,000+ miles on it.
Chilly Willy man did you have to buy a new transmission or transfer box or engine or something else?ty!
Hey man, I really enjoy your content. I like seeing someone who knows what they’re talking about make H3 content. I am currently shopping for one to use for our overlanding rig & to pull our 6x8 camper. My Frontier doesn’t have 4x4 so I started looking at 4x4 SUV’s. It’s between the H3 & FJ. Looking around I noticed a lot of the H3’s do not have the rear locking diff. Those always have high mileage & are ragged out (for the most part). So if I end up getting a lower mileage H3 without locking diff, could i install a aftermarket locking diff? If so, who should I purchase it from & is it a fairly straight forward install? Thanks man!
Btw, we need more videos!
nice videos man .. i almost got me a gladiator but at the current price tag ill wait a little bit
Excellent info! I had no idea H3's even came with lockers. I've been lusting for a jeep for years but the Rubicons are just too damn expensive! As im a big Chevrolet guy id feel much better sitting in a GM vehicle than a mopar 😜
Yeah its a little known fact! GM really never distinguished the adventure package as anything special, it just a factory option.
Good info

Omg I was gonna comment this lmao
@@jesusjj13 im dying laughing !! i wanted to comment the exact same thing!!! just try a few more hand movements lol!!
Thank you, your cool!
Thanks!
Great vid. Sucks in a way cause thanks to youtube, people are starting to know about these gems with the package and the alpha and people are starting to scoop these up increasing values and making them harder to locate.
Please make a video on how u installed that touchscreen stereo
Thank you 👍🏻
Great video. Can you add a locking rear & front differential on a non locking h3 model? If yes, what does it typically cost?
This is one of the best operational H3 videos I have seen. I am a bit embarrassed to ask but I have a 2006 H3. It has the Locking Xfre case button for the rear only, on the right side but no where does it say I have the Adventure package. Also, the H3 came with P265/75R16 tire and not the 285's. It does have some upgrade package things like leather seats. Do you think I have the Adventure pacakge or at least the locking mechanism?
nice video man! could you please also describe the difference between 4493 and 4494 transfer cases. Is it possible to rebuilt 2.6 to 4:1 , what actually I need to change in TC? thanks in advance!
working my way thru your content mate.
si Ive been searching for the full Alpha with both front and rear lockers. Wow as rare as rocking horse poop and expensive.
So my question is am I better giving up to an inline 5 or an alpha with rear only. ??
Thanks for the info man! Yah it’s true seriously dealers and sellers have absolutely NO idea what they have lol.
Also, what about the H3T? Are they standard with the adventure package? Or do they have various packages like the regular H3 does?
The H3T is easy to remember. The H3T was made from 2009 to 2010. That means it will have front and rear lockers. Same parts as the adventure package.
💪🏻🔥
Just found a h3 with a adventure package. It seems like they are very rare.
Nice video man
Thanks man! Love your channel!
@@4lowmode Thanks, and keep up good work my friend
Question please: does the bar/tubing that protects the underside of the H3 indicate an "Adventure Package" or is that just standard equipment?
Thanks I was wondering how to tell the difference does the alphas come with the venture package also
...good video
Thank you!
