- Chrono Trigger is one of those legendary games you're simply expected to play if you consider yourself a real gamer. Its legacy precedes any introduction I could possibly give it - but that certainly won't stop me from trying. Today, we're going to see if this game, the supposed "pinnacle" of Japanese RPGs, truly does live up to its illustrious legacy.

I like that in your reviews you talk like a human being. Haha. Great writing and review style. Hope to see an ff6 one someday!
Thank you! I certainly would like to talk about that game, but I'll have to finish editing my seven-hour FF7 Critique first haha.
I'm really glad you self promoted on that Andrew Butt guy's video.
Because his review was the most jaded, areddit level of incoherent goyslop that I could barely get through it.
Marles father is bad because he snapped at her. Magus is okay because he had childhood trauma. What an inconsistent and ridiculous level of grandstanding. That wasn't even the worst of it. Enough of Andrew Butt, though.
This. THIS. Is Gigachad tier.
The retrospective that we needed.
I did think Andrew's points about Marle's sidequest were strange, and I was really surprised to hear him say that Magus was the most well-developed character in the game. I mean, he's cool and all, but his character is absolutely the least developed barring Ayla. That being said, I did enjoy his video (even if I disagreed with it), and I still kinda feel bad that a lot of people thought I was trying to self-promote my own channel in his comment section - I was just surprised to see that we made identical retrospectives within a week of each other lol. And thanks for kind words; I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
@octorokreviews I don't think we ACTUALLY think you self promoted. I can only speak for me, but I was just messing with you.
Awesome review ❤
This is one of my favorite videos ever. Makes me love chrono trigger even more which i didn’t know was possible
Here I am. Great video!
R.i.p. Toriyama Sensei...😢
When I first played it in an emulator, I believed that the first battle against Magus was the end of the game.
Awesome retrospective, dude! I've really been enjoying your videos since I discovered your channel last week. Chrono Trigger is a game that will always be near and dear to my heart, and I flip flop with this or Earthbound being my favorite games of all time. I was 12 when this game came out in the summer of 1995, and I rented it right away. One of my best friends in middle school and high school had a subscription to Nintendo Power for many years, and I would look through the magazines at his house, and I was seeing Chrono Trigger previews for months before it came out. I didn't end up owning the game until about 2 and 1/2 years later, when I saw an ad in my local newspaper that somebody was selling a copy of it with the box and manual for $15. My mom drove me to the kid's house, and I ended up picking it up that night. I ended up selling it on eBay in 2009, and I regret that because I had the players guide with it as well. I repurchased a copy in 2012 I believe, for about $35. I guess I got it at the right time, because I see how that they go for $100 for a loose cart these days! Anyway, this game brings me to tears every time I play it, or even listen to the music, or hear reviews like this. It reminds me time and again how much of a masterpiece this game is, and how beautiful the art direction and the overall presentation and story that are given to the player.
Dude, I don't even want to tell you how expensive a copy of this game with the box and manual is these days. It's insane; it took years before I was confident enough to pull the trigger (pun intended) on this game. I haven't played Earthbound yet for similar reasons - it's actually even more expensive than Chrono Trigger!
@@octorokreviewsEarthBound can be found through repro carts, as well. I am fortunate enough to still have my original copy I bought on eBay in 2000 (with the player's guide) for $30.
When I sold Chrono Trigger with the box, manual, and player's guide in 2009, I got about $102 for it on eBay!
Glad you nabbed Chrono Trigger, it is worth it! Especially the original version on SNES. I've seen the DS port of it, and while I liked the addition of some new stuff, the Dream Devourer seemed too tacked on for my liking.
Great review as always Octo. I never gave Chrono Trigger much thought but I’ll have to pick it up now.
I believe fighting all those robots again and again at the entrance of the factory is the best way to grind and learn the latest techs.
I seen you post on a other chrono trigger post and i was gonna ignore it becuase it seemed like a weird self promotion but i realized thats exactly what brought me to the other channel so i gave thus a chance and well i am so glad i did
This is a great review like a few years ago i git the the first f8ght with magus and my save fule git deleated or corupted nownim finally getting back into rpgs like this u deserve a sub
this deserves more likes
52:42 ayla good
This video's one of the best I've seen about my favorite game ever, but Marle's strongest weapon is found at that castle where Cyrus is buried. (And you have to do that thing where you refuse to open the chest in 600 to actually open it in the present)
The best thing in the Hunting Range is finding and fighting Nu, lot's of XP and tech points!
Never seen anyone talk about the ludonarrative perspective before.
Jesus christ... What is wrong with the algorithm? This video is fantastic but it barely has more views than a 30 second video I uploaded just yesterday and all it was, was me taking a video on my phone of my tv
Aw, thanks for the kind words. I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed something I made.
@@octorokreviews it's wonderful man great job
Love this game but it would have been way better if you werent forced to play as chrono. There would have been a lot more interesting team attacks and team composition
Personally id be going with an all lady team
Wtf are you talking about? FF5 is very silly. 6 was goofy too but not as much. Both arguably more so than chrono trigger
You suplex a damn ghost train in FF6 and thats after a comedy scene where the ghosts for some reason have a fully functional kitchen and serve you dinner even though theyre your enemy. Theres also a joke character you fight in that same train sigfried who talks big and then is one shot and this is just one level its a very silly game when it wants to be
