Yellow sliders carrying the green jaws have prismatic joints with the wedge and the base.

Would the dovetails acute angle possibly cause more binding than a shape with larger angles?
There is not considerable difference in term of binding between dovetail and box runways. Both are used in practice like in lathes, shaper planer and slotter machines.
