  • This variation on the pushup combines with a forearm plank. The goal here is to lower keeping the elbows on top of the wrist, then push backwards onto the forearm with the shoulder on top of elbow. Using the ankles to push back forward to catch the bottom of the pushup, pressing up to finish the rep.
    Great for teaching how to control bodyweight for more complicated movement patterns like a muscle-up.

    In the real russian pushup you don't use your hands You lift your body of the ground with the sheer power of your will

    i'm sure that collapsing on the floor and staying there for the rest of the day is how you're supposed to do it...

    I like to try it to see, variation is also good. But I'm more surprised about the negative comments, i bet they didn't even try it to give their feedbacks!

    IMHO this requires more shoulder strength than anything else. The foot slide is tricky also.

      I believe naming structure for most exercises stem from training halls for competitions in gymnastics, powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, etc. Coaches and onlookers would see new and novel exercises and bring them back home, naming them after the athletes country of origin. Other examples would be Bulgarian Split Squats, Romanian Deadlifts, Korean Dips, Cossack Squats, Chinese Snatch Pulls, etc.

      @FOUNDATIONgym  Před 3 lety +2

      Jay Bee if a SNATCH PULL is hitting full extension of the ankles, knees, hips, and shoulders in snatch grip, the Chinese have been known to practice moving back under and breaking in the elbow. Think of those times you might make a snatch attempt and extend but not even try getting under.

      The difference between this and what we call the "Hindu Pushup" are that the Russian Pushup has the athlete "skim the floor" both ways, whereas the Hindu Pushup has the athlete skim the floor once on the way forward- straight arms on the reset.
