I know that things are getting tougher
When you can`t get the top OF the bottom of the barrel.
Wide open road of my future now... It's looking fucking narrow.
All I know is that I don't know
All I know is that I don't know nothing
[x2]
We get told to decide
Just like as if I'm not gonna change my mind.
All I know is that I don't know
All I know is that I don't know nothing
[x2]
Whatcha gonna do with yourself,
Boy better make up your mind.
Whatcha gonna do with yourself boy,
You're running out of time.
This time I got it all figured out
All I know is that I don't know
All I know is that I don't know nothing
[x4]
And that's fine
"I am the wisest man alive, for I know one thing, and that is that I know nothing. And thats fine."
- Socrates

We're just dust in the wind dude
@@dennisvogt1193 Not sure about that, guitar sounds powerfull to me
I put my own socrates into pop culture man and they havent figured themselves out one cent of the dollar they ride
They’re singing that they DON’T know nothin. The double negative indicates they at least know
SOMETHING and that’s fine
Socrates approves this song
+Christopher Turner *burns diploma
+derik ks And Descartes
+Lukas Horstmeier I'm not sure about it
nietzche maybe
lol socrates doesn't know shit who cares what he thinks
I've been listening to this for almost thirty years. Sigh. Still amazing
Me too, man.
Yeah 20 for me still fucking relevant
me too since discovering them on the H Street video.
Im 13 and im in love with this song after I discovered it.
ill be back at this comment when its been almost 40 years for you and probably only 10 years for me
My cousin Steve loved this band. He got me into the old Tony Hawk games and punk rock back when that stuff was newish. He passed unexpectedly a few years ago, dude was still in his 20’s. I still listen to this in his honor quite often. Dude shaped a significant part of my music tastes without really realizing it. Operation Ivy is timeless, and I’m thankful for Steve.
Rest in peace to an absolute legend
Sorry to hear about your cousin.
Hey man, sorry to hear about your loss but Steve was a good dude 🙏🙏
@@applelandry4233 Thank you. :)
wish I coulda met that guy
Operation Ivy was an American punk rock band from Berkeley, California formed in May 1987. The band was stylistically important as one of the first bands to mix the elements of hardcore punk and ska into a new amalgam called ska punk and was critical to the emergence of Lookout Records and the so-called "East Bay Sound."
So the first one i hear was green day cover and i didn't expect the original version to be like this. I wasn't ready for it
Fuck man same! But it's awesome!
SAME!!!!!
im pretty sure i found out abt op ivy the same way lol now i fkin hate greenday
i thought the green day version wasnt a cover but the original song lol
This version is way better IMO. I love this album, this was my go to when I was 12/13.
Punk Rock at his best.
Nice profile pic
Punk Rock used to be a pretty cool guy
More like ska punk
haha. Yeah he did good on this one
Ska Punk, you fool!
I see all the comments where people talk about the green day version and i'm just here like "yo the aquabats version is pretty ok"
+trickytristan1 Aquabats are hilarious! They were at Soundwave in Sydney this year, beach balls everywhere!
But what about the Millencolin version?! Lol.
You mean the kids ?
Even in Blackouts🖤
@@Keopro rip soundwave
Anyone here because they had this album when it was new?
I'm lonely.
General Sherman I picked this up soon after it came out. Sadly, Operation Ivy we’re booked at a local all-ages venue (in my hometown of Morgantown, WV), but broke up before the show.
General Sherman I skipped it the only time they ever played Chicago because it was a weeknight and I was still in high school. I was like, ‘I’ll catch em next tour’. Of course there never was a next tour...
Same got this CD at ZIA records sometime in the late 90s, we are few and far between my friend, took me a year to find you...we are all lonely..
Have this on vinyl woot
Me too
teacher: makes suprise test
me: 0:10
Lol
I'm 39 years old, almost 40, and i don't know what i am going to do with my future, all i know is that i know nothing and thats fine!
Right there with ya man. Cheers on the big 40 as well.
this song reminds of teachers asking you what you want to be when you grow up
This was the last song I heard through my Walkman before I got creamed by a car on my skateboard sometime in the 90s I don't really remember when I woke up in the hospital many hours later apparently singing it by the way I was fine just concussed
How was the walkman?
@@matthewreeves8408 still got it somewhere
I guess you didn't know nothing after that
You know, I quoted this song for my senior quote
"I know that things are getting tougher
When you can`t get the top OF the bottom of the barrel."
Brilliant start to one hell of a song!
In my eyes this one of the best punk songs ever. Easy, simple, straight forward, short, good lyrics, catchy riff and lick.
Ahhhhhh yes, many many days of driving back roads taking bowl hits and blasting this album
This song so much Energy and just fuck listen to that. Operation Ivy were beyond their time.
One of the best punk albums of all time...
This band had the most brilliant lyrics of our age
you know the lyrics are green day ones
Smiley Green Day covered this song. This is the original.
@@mfishman9311 yeah I realized that
@@smiley3637 yikes
@@oakoe188 indeed
I love Green Day and they're my favorite band but this version is light years better than Green Day's! Long live Op Ivy!!!
So what youre saying is that Green Days is 2000 light years away from this version?
I mean duh Green Day's version was just them poking fun at their friends
My mom got a love letter from the lead singer of Green Day lol
dude, just no
green days version is why people do versions... OI version is channeling the Sex Pistols stupidly intense energy but Green Days has this mellow intensity..
Can you believe this came out today 30 years ago... Thank you Tim Armstrong, Jesse Michaels, Matt Freeman and Dave Mello. even when 30 more years will pass, we will continue to love Energy dancing and singing with you.
Pick it up, pick it up, pick it up!
Best punk album. Period. I wish I still had it on vinyl.
I have yet to hear another song less than two minutes long that is as epic as this one.
I don't know. Sound system is pretty Damn good song too...?
Jaded?
Listen to the full album then
Straight edge by minor threat
In the end by green day
In the immortal words of Jello Biafra, punk means thinking for yourself! So unlike most alleged bands today
Damn the lyrics are too relatable...
This is GOLD. Thanks for all the lyrics in every description. Haven't listened to this since my early days from a burned CD. You'll be surprised how much shit u can change around haha...
Wow this brings me back so many good memories.
All I know is 99% of people in this thread are here for show. You have the "This is the original, and it's the best" and you have the "Green Day is better" and then you have the "I know the (any other band name) version that no one else knows about, that's better than all the others". In short... Appreciate the orig, appreciate the covers, appreciate the fact that so many bands recognize the badass of this song, and; whatever version you're listening to, or like better... Smile and enjoy whatever the fuck version you want, and shut up. If Op Ivy hadn't written this song, you wouldn't be listening to the other versions that you like better than this one.
P.S. Green Day is the reason I ever went looking for this version to begin with. I was not disappointed...
This was my anthem at 16!
Came here because I found out green days version was a cover, was surprised that green day toned it down a bit, this version is way better
really love the vocals and vibes here
Thank you for posting this. ^_^
Sounds like skateboard music
Is it not skate music?
90s highschool flashbacks
i used to listen to this album over and over
Heard the Energy album long time ago. Great LP!
I listened to this song a bunch with my dad right before the Corona hit and now I listened to calm myself
Aw I hope you're doing okay
John Snow's favorite song.....
Damn lol I was going to say this comment xD
Lmao
RIP BNH. I can still see you singing this loudly in youthful proclamation!
i love punk! i've been looking through the encyclopedia of punk in my school library and finding all these awesome bands!
Still awesome in 2023.
Thanks Bob!
Thank-you TWITCH for the operation ivy
1989 greatness, still good today.
i wonder if op ivy had any idea how profound what they were writing here really is
I like to think they didn't. they just wrote words and it happened to be incredibly philosophical
***** They don't really seem like the kinda of people who'd paraphrase Socrates but hey, it happened
I somehow get the impression that they didn't know much about knowin' nothin'
Nah Jesse Michaels knew exactly what he was doing. Trust me.
i love his raw voice, sounds so visceral.
Flashback.Rock On!
Best kind of music there is
we love this band
I approve.
this is one of my favorite songs how does it only have 74,000 views gezzz
whoever put together this playlist has a REALLY cool username.
This song is so catchy
#Priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was only familiair with the cover by Millencolin of this track which I absolutely love. Having heard this original version I must conclude it already was a masterpiece.
This will always remind of skateboarding :D
I came here because two dudes were talking about them on the train, and that's when I remembered that I used to listen to them.
the sound is awesome
The seeds of so many American bands. (Leftover crack)
one of the best, straight up punk songs ever
Green day is not commercial. They're just popular. In 1994, they've signed to Reprise cause they wanted their music to be heard by more people, cause they wanted to play music for the rest of their lives; not just becouse of money.
Green Day and Operation Ivy. Only thing I need in my life
Agree completely!
The real OpIvy fans are still listening in 2020.
haha i just learned this song and i love it. Im trying to learn how to write music like this.
This reminds me of tho good old times when i was 12 no worries in the world just free
Production is too slick.
My favorite hoodie is the Op Ivy cover art one.
I sang this song with my punk band in 8th grade.
you, are SOOOOOO right.
lol. im flattered.
I didn't expect this to be the Operation Ivy version
I love this song, I want old Green Day back!!! Operation Ivy makes this song rule the fucking world.
Yeah Matt !
its kinda funny because all of you argue who's version is better but in reality they both came from the same record label and have co-wrote songs together
What? That's not true. They came from the same Gilman st. scene that produces the Mr. T Experience amongst other, but they never wrote songs together. Hell, Operation Ivy's LAST show was Green Day's first real show.
wow I didn't know that. thanks for not attacking me for being wrong, and I just heard that off the Wikipedia page for1 greens day saying that Billie Joe helped write a song for rancid or something
Jacob Romero
No problem man,I try not to attack lol. Now if you're talking about Rancid, that's a different story, because that was Tim's band. Operation Ivy was mostly Jesse Michael's band, and he actually disbanded it because he thought they were getting too big for a true punk band lol.
Yes, Billie Joe Armstrong co-wrote Rancid's song "Radio". Billie Joe was almost in Rancid before Lars Frederiksen joined. Billie Joe would've been so out of place in Rancid though.
Slippy Jones sounds right. There’s a pic I saw of Billie Joe playing with Rancid in 1993, but I can’t find it anymore
I came here for good music after that joke of ''what did the fox say'' i wasn't disapointed
If you had a brain you wouldn't listen to "What Does The Fox Say" at all!!!!
Coach Cro I'm reading this comment in 2017....
Dionne Sier I’m reading your comment in 2018
If only you knew
What did the fox say is actually quite a good song considering that it was written as a joke. The creator was trying to make the dumbest song possible using a modern formula just to show how dumb modern music is which is just as stupid as the lyrics to the song.
My theme as a conspiracy theorist
and up until now I've been listening the same sound in the songs
Yay, music of my youth.
...still don't know nothin'.
All Green Day did was present punk in a more pop way so everyone could enjoy it instead of it being some dark lonesome corner of the music world, which is a good thing!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHY IS THERE AN AD ON AN OPERATION PAGE?!?!? OHHH THE SHAME, OH THE TRAGIC PITY OF IRONY. CORPORATE AMERICA YOU HAVE BROKEN MY SPIRIT.
i type in knowledge on youtube, this isnt till the 3rd page, oh, but theres 3 green day versions before it, i love the world
My only complaint with alot of punk rock songs is that theyre too good to be this short lol I was jamming out to this in the car the other day and I was like damn it its over.
1:01 is one of my favorite moments in all of punk rock
Always been unsure if the double negative is intentional or ignorant. This song has so many potential layers.
And that's fine
I can´t understand why are a lot of pleople saying that´s better than the green day cover.God,who cares, maybe you preffer this version and i preffer the other one,i think both are fucking amazing.
Covered this song in some go nowhere band, but it was the jam!!!!!
"DOWN STROKES do it BETTER"
Johnny Ramone is the ONLY guitarist.
Here from ZeroHedge 🤙🤙
there is also Rancid ♥
green day and operation ivy are close, the lead singer for O.I designed Green Day's first album cover
and they both got their careers off the ground from the same place, if you are talking shit about green day, you are talking shit about operation ivy too.
green day covered their song because they were friends and were trying to get operation ivy noticed. probably as a thanks for helping them so much with their career
Matt Hensley. Not the new H Street video. So many memories of this song while skating mini ramps.
I was surprised to hear this one faster than the Green day cover. I think this is WAY better for head-banging.
Nothing makes me happier than seeing Sammi Zayn in Op Ivy shirts.
15 megatons of pure rock!
it's amazing how many tim armstrong lyrics are total gibberish in my mind and i forget until i read them somewhere that he's actually saying real words, haha.
Classic
Thanks Geoff Ramsay!! hahaha
Yeah Op Ivy are awesome, when he started singing I was like... hmmm I know this song!
What video did goeff ramsey sing Operation Ivy?
I'm wondering the same thing...
Epic Song , the Green Day cover is good too .
A simple, honest, and enlightening song. This is punk at it's best.
