Bad Town - OPERATION IVY

- Lyrics-
They call it a scene I call it disaster
Down here the kids grow up faster
Scared they're scared to the bone
Like a pack of wolves they don't run alone
One on one they won't look you in the eye
But when the pack's together there's a battle cry
I saw it fifteen on one
When the crowd dispersed the kid was done
[Chorus:]
No (no more)
No (bad town)
No more bad town
Yeah down there you gotta have a label
Just like a cattle in a stable
Knee jerk reaction I call it violence
Why speak out when you could be silenced
Down there, out on the dance floor
Too much violence I don't want more
Down there, out on the street
I can see the air I can see the heat
[Chorus] - Hudba
What the hell are you people even arguing about?? This is Operation Ivy and this is not a version..this is The version. You can’t argue over this because those guys wrote the song and they tried to give a message which is clear.. forget about quality audio instruments this is the way it is supposed to be.
Exactly.
I aint arguing
This is the way.
just stumbled across this so I have no idea what argument anyone was having and I don't care because this is the right answer
Correct. Source.... Came up in the bay area. Also Gilman brother
Travelling from town-to-town to do shows on a crappy bus for less than $50 per week; these guys are legendary for bringing us the music and emotions that have influenced a piece of everyones soul.
Nofx would play green bay for 50 bucks and 2 cases of beer...back when they first started that is.
I remember finding sound system on youtube when I was like 12. I'm about a decade older and randomly decided to listen to the whole album, and I'm downright obsessed. The energy, the power of the lyrics, damn. What I would give to have been alive in the 80s, rocking out at the gilmore with these dudes
OI da best
best skapunk out there.
Gilman*
The proper name of the place was...the gilman street project.
Fuck I wish the 80s lasted forever
Let's take a moment to appreciate that Op Ivy and Ska are the reason my parents got married and I'm here. Same with my HS band teacher and his wife.
What
Oh yeah? Well you and your parents rock! Ska rocks!
@@timeworntraveler3644 why thank you 😊
How
@@ThechickenVR749 they both listened to ska, so they bonded over their shared interests
Ska opens up the soul. From Marley to the Specials. From the Skattelites to Madness. Ist wave, 2nd wave, and punk rock 3rd wave!! Unity.
Oi!
Inity! Gotta play dis for dose St Pete bwoys
3rd wave doesn't necessarily mean punk ska. The slackers and hepcat are both 3rd wave
Oi!
Marley is reggae. Not ska. Desmond Dekker king of ska
The 1st time I heard this album was on some cds my mom gave me of stuff she thought I might like. I was such a lucky teenager to have a mom that introduced me to such good music all the time. I'm 27 now and still listen to songs off this album on repeat.
Classy lady right there!!
There’s a good chance I’m your Dad.
I wanna hangout with your mom lol
❤
No, no more, hate, hate wars.
I love Op Ivy and ska as much as I love HU and rock/hip hop. Isn't music and a song like this supposed to bring us together instead of debating who's better? I say, no... no more bad town!
I'm full-pledged HU fan and I actually love this melody and other Op Ivy songs! They're just awesome! :D
For anyone who cares, the song is in the key of f major
Guitar chords:
Intro with ska strum- whole song is sorta ska strummed
F major cmajor (Barre chords preferred)
Verse
Same as intro
Chorus
A sharp Fmajor Cmajor Fmajor (Also barre chords)
Enjoy :D, and if it helped rep!
We used to rock this while we skated the quarter pipe in my friends driveway.
fuck yes sounds like fun
I'm talking 15+ years ago.
Me and my friends still skating the halfpipe to this
Skating & op ivy... me too. It’s was a golden era for music & skating.
Haha! Same. We had this crazy ass quarter pipe with extreme vert. Our neighbor was a carpenter and made it for us. I remember we were so scared to drop down it. I just said, “you gotta lean forward and go for it.” This album and Chesire Cat was always playing in that driveway.
I just realized this is the only Op Ivy song with any sort of brass (unless one is slipping my mind). Funny how I never noticed how a ska band doesn't use horns.
There is a version of Unity with horns
Honestly not a bad or even mediocre song on this album
What?
@@staceypayne9142this album has no songs that could be considered bad or mediocre
"This is not the new H.street video" with Hensley and sal barbier...such a great time
Jugando con Elias holy crap old man. Me too...via SW ATL.
Same
'Mat, Mat, Mat, Hensley' (proceeds to bust a mean ass blunt slide). That's
And in a blind video....sean sheffey doing big ollies 😋
Fucking love this song
Takes me back to skateboarding around town to hit the nearest sidewalks or riding my bmx bike to do the same
What a life in Phoenix
I didn't even know that hu did a version of this but nothing will ever beat the feels that you get while listening to this
The best OP IV song period.
Best Operation Ivy song is HEDGECORE.......
TAKE WARNING ,HEALTHY BODY SICK MIND, SOUND SYSTEM.
Operation ivy is LIFE
Imma be honest didnt know HU covered this or shout at the devil this bad town is cool i like both the cover and the og one
we can all agree that jesse michaels is one of the greatest lyricists ever
Just tried to go in on Jesse Michaels and you tube stopped me.
WEAK!
Sure, but this is a Tim Armstrong tune, not Jesse Michaels
playing this on the sax, like this if youd like to see a cover on here..
Hollywood Undead did one it’s awesome
BAD TOWN IS WRITTEN BY OPERATION IVY. It's Not a version.
Operation Ivy were a miracle of musical genius and Energy is living proof. It's silly to argue considering the message of the music in question. Peace and Unity to all.
Best Op Ivy Song with Sound System :)

Well done. I was waiting for you to slip up on one of my favorite songs and you nailed it. /highfive
im here because i search operation ivy remembering at 97's when playing this song at gigs.
Better the originals! no doubt about it
thanks for upload man!
大好き❤な歌!!
This song could be applied to many U.S cities
decadepast decadepast Hell yeah. SoCal violence music.
it could be applied to any city in any country lol
Or just neighborhoods
And I have applied it to them peeling the fuck out.
Personally I just think this version has more feeling to it. You can feel the aggression and the actual almost anguish that Tim is trying to convey. HU just sounds like a cover of a song.
Because it is
amazing song
Always nice to rediscover this song. (:
I will never forget this song
did you forgor it?
"My legs are dangling off the edge, the bottom of the bottle is my only friend, I think I slit my wrist again and I'm gone gone gone" There you go all you pre-teen Hollywood Undead fans some words to live by, by your favorite singer Charlie Scene! :)
This isn't their song bud.
before my time but 18 years ago I was introduced to op ivy. so effin good!!
@JustCallMeDeAng
*brought* this song to life. "Brang" isn't a word. And the reason this song isn't well-known is because they wanted to keep the punk scene underground so it was closer to the fans.
I'm guessing HU must have been a thing 10 years ago lol. IVY will always be a thing
HU is forever in my opinion
@@Redfungi164 punctuation helps clarify.
2021 still a banger 🏁
who paid you?…
TIM ARMSTRONG SHAVED MY PUBS LAST WEEK
DIDN'T MISS EVEN A SINGLE ONE
& ONLY CUT ME TWICE!!
Your pubs?
Drink up mate.
I love this.
Coolest band nobody’s ever heard of.
Fuckin for real.
All of the coolest bands bands today are here because they know about op iv
pooorraaaaaa só som lokooooooo Anarch
Raul Tattoo vdd
good god this makes me nostalgic.
Applicable today more than ever! 💋
One of Green Day's biggest influences just so happened to be Op Ivy, and they still remain good friends with Tim.
Who's Hollywood Undead?
A shitty band
For life
Do you even Google bro?
@@quintessence6793 nine years ago also was being sarcastic :/
idk why but this song always makes me happy
@kalikovisionmaster one of the most influential punk bands period.
I forgot that Hollywood Undead even existed because it's not 2008.
They released a new album called day of the dead.
And yet no one noticed :)
+savethepenguins2 I figured by now they're probably drinking their sorrows away with Tom from Myspace.
savethepenguins2 I think it's pretty good, actually.
No one noticed? What drugs are you on? Hollywood Undead is releasing their 5th album in October, and they're very popular. And wow, MySpace lol. Quit living in the past dumbasses.
I swear the music community is the most toxic one
just F*kin awesome
this is awesome
Okay, I'm going to piss you all off (I bet) when I say why both versions are great:
Operation Ivy (original) - No autotune, one take, real instruments, epic tenor sax solo, easy to play on trumpet (for me), and let's face it, a fun song.
Hollywood Undead (cover) - Great guitar sound, closest cover to the actual song (compared to other band covers), brass sounds great (although synthesized), good vocals with Charlie Scene, and seems appropriate for today's era of music.
Why both versions SUCK:
You have the "HU4L" fans arguing with the Op Ivy fans, and if anyone says they like both versions, they get bombarded with hate from both sides, kind of like having two religious groups yelling at an atheist- Wait, what am I doing?! I can't start another argument on one argument!
That's it, that's enough Internet for today. I shall await the hate comments. :D
+Charlie 5 Lives Wait.. what? There's another version? Fuck that.
good stuff
+Charlie 5 Lives
i like to have discussions with people that will act semi civil almost a pipe dream on youtube, the community is half idiot trolls, just saying not attacking ya here
"closest cover to the actual song"
but dont you want it to be different i hate when bands dont change it up enough all they are doing is piggy backing then, louie prima and louie arm strong both do When Your Smiling both great and both way different
but i do agree with the line about seeming "appropriate for today's era of music"
i just havent really liked much modern music for like 12 years :3
Totally agree dude. Ive never heard of 'HU4L" but have loved O.I since they were born! Its a classic O.I song and to be honest, any cover version doesn't compare. But its good to see other genres of music appreciating other styles and tastes. Love it all and respect, even if you don't like it, at least have the decency to respect it : )
I know right, who cares. Just enjoy the music, no more bad town?
I can't stop laughing.
Let’s het this to 1 million views, it’s so close!
yeah, this is the sound of happiness
hollywood undead is one of my favorite bands and i love them but operation ivy is also really awesome
As a Hollywood Undead fan, I like this version better
Takes me back to my teens in the East Bay
So damn great
@SouthardJon great response *Sarcasm*. im 16 and was introduced to op ivy when i was 3 by my bro Micheal. i dont have a job cause i live in Nevada now, a fucking wasteland with no forms of work except at casinos and you have to be 18 or over.
Came here from Hollywood Undead
Same
They butchered this song
Richard Martin I was just about to say the same xD
I think the main reason for the hu version to sound better is because of their mastering and, obviously, because they have more singers
I came from green day, after they did the cover on knowledge
personally i think the hu cover sound quality sounds alot better
Because the original is hella lot older.
+Jason Shippy This was recorded in the 80's and in a garage, the other in a cushy recording studio, which one do you think is going to have better sound quality?
All the good feels:)
懐かしい!!!(2021,12.28)
tbh I listened to the Hollywood undead version and it sounded like new age garbage. it sounds like wannabe rappers sorry but my opinion tbh
+shadowrainbow97 i think it sounds like all the stuff from 05 and after like hawthorne heights and fall out boy stuff
In my honest opinion, the hu version of this is soooooooo much better, it might be nostalgia from me listening to hu for so long and hearing their new covers it removes a feel from this original, but after hearing the hu version, then the original, the original sounds disastrous.
Your grammar is the bane of my existence
That’s because they were wannabe rappers. So they started Hollywood Undead. Now they are rappers. Pretty good ones in my opinion.
there's a Hollywood Undead cover? that sounds fuckin terrible
Sounds better than this shit
oh yeah... auto tuned rappers are "waaaaaaay better"
gers berst hey dumbass you actually listen to the cover, no auto tune used, and I’d rather vocals that sound good than vocals that sound so lazy.
Lazy? Op ivy recorded this in a garrage in one take. Not because they were lazy, but because that's all they needed. They didn't have, need, or want a fancy businessman to give them money. They stuck to the DIY ethics of punk rock and that is why I choose garage recording sounds and vocals.
We love you Op Ivy!!
The first time I heard this was like the first time breathing. Can’t live without it now.
Hollywood undeads version is better
got through 15 seconds....ended up with a gun to my head.
whats Hollywood undead?
***** I don't understand how a band that got number 2 on the top 200 billboard album charts are miserable.
Hollywood undeads version is a lot better
...both versions are good quit fighting
AGREED!!!!!!
Me my oldest bro and my buddies painted this exact op ivy logo 8 feet round across my halfpipe in my backyard when I was 13 maybe 14 it was awesome...dad made us tear it down 2 weeks later smh
Lets Go!
OP IVY rules
H-Street!!!! Forever Remembering those good times.
ah yes beauty at its finest its true
Punk is about being who you are and not being ashamed. It's more punk to say you like Hollywood Undead than to hate them because they 'aren't punk.'
i was an extra in the upcoming film freaky tales n this is what i hear in my nightmares . fake moshing over n over again , no NO MORE no BAD TOWN /no more bad town/ assistant director myron yells cut n yells @ all of us 2 stop talking , over n over n ovr again , there is always more bad town , more bad town 4 at least 15 more takes

from looking at the comments i didn't even know hollywood undead did this song too. but i could care less because i will never waste my time to even bother or even interested in listening to HU's version.
Huge nostalgia for this song, part of Not the New H-Street Video's soundtrack.
no no more

No (bad town)
No more bad town
2020
No more bad times!!!!!!!!!!
I bumped my GPA to a 3.0 with my finals next week should be a 3.8ish then summer this is my song to celebrate it.
the sax in this song is so cool
No more bad town.
HU lifted the song to the skys......
Nope.
What?
That crack must be tasty.
@TheCataIyst True punkers. They didn't want to sell out. They aren't retarded. They had their run, and that's that. It's sad, but I still seee no reason why we are comparing a great band like OP IV and HU.
Love both versions of this song
The original is not a "version."
@@Genkimark technically it is. its the first version. literally the definition of it
@@bigbirdmusic8199 The original is just that, the original.
@@Genkimark Yeah, the original VERSION
fucking awesome
omg i know right!
I dont see why everyones hating on hollywood undead, they have every right to make a cover, if anything they made operation ivy more popular, i had never heard of them until hollywood undead, now i listen to them
This song is prob the best op ivy song
I love how clashing the two top comments are.
Either way, I think this song is so unique, especially with how they worked that saxophone into it, just wonderful.
just got hectic for a fathers day present today in 2019
Some good memories there........... ahh the eighties punk scene
i read your comment and out of curiosity i had to check out the hollywood undead version...lets just say i made a HUGE mistake
dude sounds like he wants to get out of there as fast as possible
@broktheoliver THANK YOU.
