but how do you balance it? It feels very wobbly! Is it only for support or can you remove the transmission from the car using this jack?

hey guys i hear your concerns about the adjustment bolts to make everything line up but you could always chain the motor with your cherry picker and lower the air pressure in the tires so everything sits level that would work

Pretty cool, I would drill a hole in pad shaft and put a cotter pin thru there to make sure it don't pull out and fall under tranny weight. Or, go with a longer shaft like I did, removing some material to make room for the longer bolt. Nice job though Rich. Thanks

Rich, a few problems. Transmission are very heavy. Need to put on wide axle on front of jack. Need a tilt platform for angling the jack for transmission alignment.

Thats smashing, you clever clogs :-)), and i bet the bought ones are just painted pretty, but cost!!
Nice strong platform with legs :-))
And if you need to change it too far, im sure a few more holes drilled and you can move the arms anywhere to make it fit :-))
Love to see home made tools, i have a frend that is similar to you, if its needed then out comes the welder/grinder/drill and a tool is created :-))

I have just made a new style transmission jack that uses a totally different way to position the gearbox. It is a very easy design to D.I.Y My video is titled New design transmission jack. I hope it helps people to put in their gearboxes.

Why didn't you use a large pin or pipe or bolt instead bolting to your jack pad then you just lift off the jack pad & put on your adapter?

Any video of it in use? Hopefully your tetanus shots are up to date. :-) Home made tools are always the most interesting. I would take a grinder to it to smooth out the rough edges so you don't cut yourself on it, and give it a coat of *rattle-can" paint, but still a cool home made tool.

You can buy one of these (that fits the same hole that the saddle of your jack sits in) for about $60. Not saying this isn't a decent homemade rig, but....

Damn Yankee to be more precise! And an angle grinder would do wonders on the edge, surely do wanna gash your fuckin hand or arm open on it.
