- I found this painted antique sideboard on the Facebook Marketplace, and as soon as I picked it up in the rain, I knew it needed a lot of work. In this video, I remove tough and stubborn paint from the antique and let the wood breathe again.

Holy WOW! I wanted to cry for you just watching the process of getting that paint off. This was such a transformation!!! Solid work….super solid work actually!!!!
Thanks Amy! I wanted to cry a bit too during the process 😂 But its always worth it in the end, especially when the wood grain looks like that!
I had this happen on some kitchen cabinets. I couldn’t do it after three rounds of strippers. I was in tears. There must’ve been ten layers of paints over the years. My dad finally looked at me and said try a heat gun. He said work slow and carefully. As soon as the paint bubbles remove with the spatula and viola! 😅 It’s tedious as well but better than all that paint stripper.
Beautiful wood.
Ficou lindo. Parabéns 👏
PRINCIPIANTE INESPERTO 😂😂😂😂😂
Talk about tenacity!! The commitment to a “trashed” piece to the end beauty is impressive!
Thanks Molly!
Man, did that thing fight you. You have patience and skill, I’d have launched that thing into space in a rage faced meltdown.
So far I've watched yours and flipping drawers both of you have done amazing jobs
Thank you!! I think Jay did a wonderful job as well. Thanks for watching :)
You liberated some very nice grain on this piece. Good work on the patches, as well. Well done! She now has her dignity restored.
Thank you!!
I can literally feel your pain 😂 you did well👌 very nice work mate 👏👏
Thanks Jay, it was a tough one for sure 😂 you did an amazing job on your display cabinet as well my friend!
This was excruciating to watch. I admire your tenacity to continue with this project. In the end no one would know what you started with, absolutely beautiful.
Thank you so much!
You should be very proud of the results of this piece. It's beautiful.
wow thanks so much :)
Wow what a difference. You rescued this piece and changed it from the faux cottage look to something which would grace any high class dinning room. Congratulations. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Thanks so much!! Thanks for watching
OMG! This series is just getting some awesome trash to treasure saves.
Jay spent ages sanding, David ages gluing and filling and you spent ages scraping. What's in the next vid I wonder? 😂
Thanks! Glad you are enjoying the series
Do they have ‘paint stripping’ in the Olympics? I think you won the gold medal!! Woweeee 🥇
A lot of hard work, but it is an amazing transformation 😊
You deserve an Oscar, Emmy and Grammy. Beautiful!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
You deserve to win this competition.
Oh my! It's hard to watch you work so hard trying to get that paint off. You did one hell of a job on that piece of furniture!
I haven't been to the gym lately, so I need the exercise lol but thank you for the kind comment and thanks for watching!
That would have broken the best of restorers removing all that paint. You did a fantastic job and you were certainly a worthy contender to the challenge
Absolutely gorgeous! Hard to believe. The grain is beautiful. Job well done!
Thanks Arianna!
Oh my GOD! That thing was THRASH. If you guys had a vote who had the crappiest piece, my votes for you.
Excellent job!
Wow thanks for the kind comment! Thanks for watching :)
Hi from Cambridge UK. You deserve a medal for hard work, patience, staying power, skill and vision. Did I miss anything? Well done. This piece has been saved from landfill and will give many hours of pleasure to the new owner. Be proud.
They should give you the gold medal for perseverance and hard work! The piece turned out to be amazing! Great great work!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Who needs to go to the gym when you can just scrape paint. Epic job. Amazing transformation.
I wish more old furniture was fixed up. It's so neat to have at least one old piece somewhere in a house. Fun to decorate with.
This piece was definitely headed to a landfill. You managed, through tons of work, to make it something beautiful and can be used for years to come!
That quarter sawn Oak is Beautiful!
I've never understood why anyone would cover that beauty with paint.
Thank you for sharing this with us. That was sooo much work, but it was well worth all the time & love that you put into it. Someone will love that beauty for many years to come.
Please keep up the good work, stay safe, stay well and know that your work is appreciated.
Gees, what a ton of work! You’re a trooper to keep going when the paint was so difficult to remove! The end product is amazing!
The sideboard is a sort of colonial/French provincial style popular in the seventies. The mass market paint technique was weird with a sprayed oil based paint and a sort of baking process that literally made a hard shell. The fact you got down to wood is a miracle out of Scripture
For the love of paint... I appreciate your patience and tenacity. You brought her back to all her glory, and what a beautiful job you did! Cheers!
Everyone of the trash to treasure videos I watch I think 'Oh that the worst one with the best restoration' then I see another one. Your's certainly was the most work at least getting the old finish off. I knew it would look great from the beginning though.
WOW! You deserve my utmost respect for to take on you this brutally hard piece of work. That's what I really call a challenge!
You deserve some kind of an award….seriously I’ve never feel so sorry for a CZcamsr before. Good job in sticking it through. I would have given up the first day
Wow thanks for such a nice comment 🙂
I wanted to help because it was so difficult. I wouldn’t have been much help, but still wanted to 😅
Goodness. That is gorgeous. I give you so much credit for sticking with this transformation. I was exhausted just watching you scrape all that paint!
There were so many challenges and so much work. But you've overcome them all, dear Jamie. Amazing result 👌👌👌🤗
Thanks Ismail!! 🙂
painting the inside black was genius
Thanks!
This has got to be the best one you have done so far. Very thorough and complete right to the end. Absolutely beautiful. I’m thinking I’d pay $600. What a bute 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🇺🇸
Wow thanks Jodi! Its def one of my fav projects yet, thanks for watching 🙂
Awesome job. That book matched veneer on the drawers is stunning
I think that price is a bit low, at least $1200.00 would be my guess .
@@phil6506 that’s what I would pay. You can pay $1200. Like the vintage store I work at says..it’s only WORTH what someone is willing to pay.
It's a beautiful piece of furniture. You've done a wonderful job. I'd be proud to own that. That wood is beautiful. Thank you for taking us on this journey.
Your definitely the winner of this challenge. Woow. Absolutely beautiful
Wow, thank you :)
This is so interesting. It would have fascinated my dad! He was employed as a master builder who also taught bricklaying in later life. As well as being a generally 'handy' kind of man. After he retired he took up woodworking and myself and other family members still have a lot of his builds. He would have been extremely impressed with your work, your commitment and your patience! I think you managed to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!! I love the finished piece ❤
Think you deserve a medal for the hard work and effort. I'm exhausted just watching. Well done you.
Wow, thank you!
I have no words to say how beautiful your work was. As we say here in Brazil: YOU KILLED IT! Congratulations .
Thank you so much for the kind comment!!
WOW!! I would have never guessed it had such beautiful wood under all that paint. You did such incredible work! I can't imagine how much your arms, shoulders and back ached from all that scraping. You should be so proud of yourself and your work. 👍👍👍👍👍👍🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇
I give you a lot of credit for sticking with this project, and I didn't think anything good would come of your work until you sanded the top. I could see the possibility then. Good job!
OMG!! That's a keeper! Amazing job, and I always enjoy watching your videos! Beautiful!
Thank you for the kind words :)
I think this restoration ranks No. 1 in the challenge! Unbelievable patience and skill in the repairs and refinishing. So well done. I also think the black interior was a good choice for a timely
completion. You did say you were pleased. These tiger oak furniture pieces are show stoppers! Thank you, enjoyed this video very much. ✨️💪👏
Wow thank you so much for the kind words :) I was so happy to see the tiger oak underneath! Thanks for watching 🙂
Man, that paint was everywhere and on everything! Beautiful job!
By far, the most thorough execution of a restoration I've seen. I can't believe that gorgeous quarter sawn wood was under all those layers of paint. What you've done is incredible. I imagine that sideboard is sticking out its drawers with pride. Ah-mazing!!!
Thanks so much!! 🙂
That was a truly amazing transformation! Why people slap paint all over such beautiful furniture, I will never understand. Brilliant work!
No clue.. but thanks for watching!
That was an INCREDIBLE transformation!! What perseverance. Congratulations!
Honestly, I was sure you wouldn't get a good end product. JUST AMAZING how you were able to overcome the paint and overall grodyness. In my opinion you win because this was the worst trash I've ever seen and it became a treasure.
Wow thanks so much :)
Hi, from what I saw I'm guessing that what you've removed and scraped-off weren't just layers of built-up paint but also old-school wood putty mixed [thinned-out for smoother application] with oil-based paint. I've had the most excruciating misfortune to deal with a similar piece in the past too. Your perseverance most certainly deserves admiration. Well done.
Who needs the gym? That scraping was beyond a workout. I applaud your efforts because the end result seriously pays off. Nice job!
Haha thank you!!
@FurnitureFlippa well done! You seriously have patience and attention to detail! It looks way better...justice served.
Thanks so much!
I cannot believe what you managed to do with this piece. All that endless scraping was absolutely worth it! Gorgeous! Astonishing!
Thank you very much!
Вы молодой мастер с золотыми руками.Все делаете скрупулёзно,честно.Смотрю и смотреть хочется на такую классную вашу работу.Результаь просто восхитителен❤❤❤
What a job you did, ready to be purchased and enjoyed for decades 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you!
I can’t believe you persevered through all that scraping!
The sides had me worried lol they were so challenging... thanks for watching!
YOU ARE A MIRACLE WORKER!!! What an AMAZING transformation!!
I had a Hoosier Cabinet last year that had 5 coats of five different types and colors of paint, two like your hard dry ones, and after trying two different strippers, scrapers, and sanding, I ended up using my heat gun on high and a scraper, outside on the deck, and it all came off, with only a little hard sanding necessary. It's really hard work lots of times, but in the end, it was worth it--under all that paint was a solid oak cabinet, no veneer, so no need for patching! I love it!
Your cabinet came out beautiful, and your color matching is great!
Good Job! Why anyone would put even one coat of paint over that gorgeous Flaky Tiger Oak makes my head spin!!
Solid wood is always nice when you have to deal with so much paint, congrats on your nice piece! And thanks for watching
Clearly everyone involved knows their trash. But I think you worked the hardest to find your treasure. Any true hockey fan will recognize a great save when they see one. Just a terrific job! I believe that you are the champion my friend. - - bonus points for choice of stain 👍
Thanks so much!!
I just found your channel, as part of the Trash Challenge. I was exhausted just watching you strip the old paint off. I confess this piece would have gone right on the burn pile. However you brought it back - a wonderful transformation. I admire the strength of your conviction that this project was “doable”.
Thanks so much!
WOWZER!! I never thought youd make this piece look even half this good! You went way beyond normal effort! Thank you!❤
I love your determination to get that nasty old paint from h*ll off of that beautiful wood !! It is an awesome piece of work !!
The skill, the craftsmanship and dedication not to burn it on sight at first glance, it’s beyond remarkable! A beautiful restoration 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾✊🏾
That was a lot of work, but it really paid off. Amazing restoration!
What a magnificent job of restoring this piece back to its former glory!!! I always love seeing the beauty of the original wood brought back to life! It's inspiring to see such respect and care for the original craftsmanship in restorations like this! Well done!!!
thanks so much!
Bless you for going the extra mile with veneer repair! Nice work😎
Oh my goodness!
You did an amazing job. I would buy this furniture piece in a heartbeat. 😊
Thank you!!
Omg what a transformation and certainly a labor of love. That was so much work to restore the piece. So glad you show these so people can appreciate what it takes to do what you do.
That looks incredible, ready for another 125 years of use. You really have an enormous amount of talent 😊
Wow, thanks so much!
Your patience was rewarded big time!
BEAUTIFUL JOB!!! That buffet looks like a 1000 dollar piece!!!!
Thank you!!
Wow, that stain really hi-lighted all your hard work! Who would have thought such a rough piece could be so beautiful! Absolutely superb work!
Thank you so much! 😊
The amount of work that took was unreal. Fantastic result. It looks great.
Your persistence is so admirable. What a result! Great work!
Super transformation! A true piece of trash into a beautiful treasure!!
In every renovation we see from you and other videos, we learn useful tips. Personally, I liked the last part about coloring. 💚💙
I admire your persistence and arm strength!
You deserve a medal after that! Beautiful 👍
I've seen about 5 from this challenge before this, and WOW! you got the short end of the stick, what a tough piece!! But it sure did come out beautiful! I love quarter sawn oak! You win as far as I'm concerned! 👏👏👏
Wow thank you so much!
YOU, in my opinion, are the winner based on the amount of effort you put into removing that paint and repairing all that veneer!! Everyone on here does truly amazing restorations on these sad, junk 'Cinderella' pieces, but I just watched you do it with TONS of pure sweat & elbow grease!! Your new subscriber from Texas!! 🤠🤠
Wow, thanks so much! :)
Wow can’t believe it’s the same piece. Wonderful job.
Thank you! 😊
I'm just blown away on all your work, incredible. You and Jay do amazing work. Thanks for your workmanship and artistry in this restoration. Beautiful
Wow, thank you! Appreciate your comment
You performed a miracle! Congrats!!!!
Wow thank you!!
I have always enjoyed your videos, but this one gave me a whole new respect for what you go through when you restore furniture. Absolutely beautiful after your hard work.
Wow, thank you!
O. M. G. YOU DID IT!!! Your patience with this piece was astounding. I thought seriously about quitting for you lol. I watched every second and STILL don’t know how you did it. Just beautiful 👍🏼😍❣️. Fantastic job!!
Fantastic work…and SO MUCH! Well done for not throwing in the towel. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Great result from something that I for sure thought could only be destined for the dump. ❤️🇮🇪
Haven't seen the whole challenge playlist yet, but you win as far as I'm concerned. You met every challenge without complaints and I hit subscribe after seeing your attention to detail on staining the dovetails. Amazing work!😻
Thank you so much! I appreciate your kind comment and thank you for subscribing :)
What a hero!!! Super kudos to you for persevering with the removal of that monster paint! It should be a crime to cover such gorgeous wood. And then all the intricate sanding, repairs and touchups. I'm tired just watching it ;-) The finished project is beyond beautiful. Thank you for rescuing an incredible piece that was so worth restoring. You just don't see that level of craftmanship and old growth wood anymore. We all should treasure them. Well done!
Thank you!!
Absolutely stunning gorgeous job! You deserve a gold medal for all the grueling work that went into this project! Boy oh boy did it payoff! Stunning outcome, gorgeous wood grain! 😊❤

Thank you so much!
Well done. You can hardly tell it’s the same piece you had at the beginning. That’ll fit in any dining room now.
