Great reaction. That story is one of those where if Hollywood was to make a movie, people who think it's unrealistic. People tend to forget how reality can be way weirder than our wildest imagination. Have a nice day :)
Technically, "Castle Keep" from 1969 is (very loosely) based on the battle of Castle Itter. About the only actual connection is that there's US troops defending a (belgian) castle (in the Ardennes) though. There has been plans to make a film of the battle of Castle Itter more recently, it has an imdb page, but it's been stuck in limbo for a number of years now.
Major Gangl's grave is located Tirol, Austria where Castle Itter is. The grave is something of a monument, listing the names of people from the town who died in WW1, and WW2. He's regarded as something of a national hero, and even has at least one street named in his honor. A true hero if there ever was one.
If you look in google maps and put his name you get several places in Austria, and streets too. Not bad for a german soldier in WWII to have a lot of places honoring him.
@@vegvisir9276 Yeah, not all german soldiers in WWII are bad guys, only are in the wrong side defending his nation. Like Gangl and his men, the soldiers defending the civilians at the end of the war to leave Berlin and avoid the soviets (Hearts of Iron history) and some others examples.
The prisoners of Castle Itter did not always get along. In fact, they very often didn't. Many of them were from opposing parties in a time of great division in France. At one point former French Prime Minister, Edouard Daladier chased French General Maxime Weygand down the hall shouting "Imbecile!" because Weygand had briefly collaborated with the Germans, despite the fact Daladier was the one who appointed Weygand as general. When they ate, the prisoners divided into three groups, conservatives, liberals, and neutrals. One prisoner, Marie-Agnes de Gaulle, sister of Free French General Charles de Gaulle, heard that Francois de la Rocque, leader of the nationalist French Social Party was being held in the castle because she was initially told she would get his room because he had been taken into town for medical treatment. She hoped that despite not agreeing with him, they would be united against the Germans as French people, but was very disappointed when she arrived.
radio tapok makes sabaton covers with the lyrics translated to russian, he is also the one that originally wrote the song "defense of moscow" that sabaton made an english translation of
Oh gosh battlefield 2 now that is something I haven't thought about in a long time, growing up I used to play most of the battlefield games with my brother and 2 of my best friends at the time. Starting with battlefield 1942 and then onto vietnam which was our favorite mostly cuz of some of the music used and then later we played BF2. Some of my fondest memories of those games was just playing any type of medic class if there was one because I loved the idea of helping me teammates around the battlefield.
It really should be considered a crime that the stories behind this one and Inmate 4859 isn't depicted in several major movies. This one is about as fantastic as it gets. Inmate 4859 is about as fucked up as it can get and features one of the greatest heroes ever.
Great I’ve been looking forward to this re reaction because of the history. There’s a few more you are missing the history video for but not many. Looking forward until you get to them. I mentioned which other songs on one of the previous sabaton vids don’t remember which. Lastly please continue with this strategy of spacing out your sabaton reactions a lot so there’s a lot of time in between.
I can re post the few other songs you have left to react to again for the history video if you want and if you don’t remember them. Just ask if you want me to.
American: "Never thought i would die side by side with a Nazi" German: "How about side by side with a German?" American: "Aye, i could do that" Also, Germany was not Nazi in ww1.. It was just a Monarchie.. Like most countries.. A country that fought against 80% of the world alone.. But a normal country 😂
Josef Gang is for sure one legendary German major and he made one hell of a stand and sacrifice to save people who he was supposed to be against a few years back. Respect. And he even managed to get some other Wehrmacht soldiers to follow him and join him in this. lol Wehrmacht vs Waffen SS who’s better? Clearly the Wehrmacht was the better fighting force. Rip Gang.
This story reminds me of a movie I saw many years ago about The Burma Railroad in WWII, where an Australian (?) & a Japanese soldier formed a friendship. The main thing I remember is them meeting years later & visiting the memorial together. I’ll try to see if I can find it for you. Edit: It’s called To End All Wars, starring Robert Carlyle, James Cosmo & Kiefer Sutherland.
not BF42, but there was a real Tank simulation, Panzer Elite and all the Mods cince then. Play the 2. SS Pd from Russio to Normandy! with highly accurate Cammo Paintigs of the Tigers
Touchy should prepare a reaction to the epic Joakim's RnB solo album for April 1st 2023 (lost of heavy editing and deep fakes expected for this one...).
Jesus h christ man, battlefield 2? I mean probably if you remember playing with or against a soldier with too many explosives. Human stealth bomber is my go to, so if you cussed over that, yeah probably.
Would you believe that I did a Dreadnought reaction the week before the Nashville concert? It's scheduled to come out this month. I had to use another channel's history because the Sabaton History was not out yet. I shook my head when this dropped today. LoL 😆
@@TouchyReactions But weren’t you going to wait like the poll decided? Can you maybe still react to the Dreadnought video or is that a no go completely just because you’ve already done a reaction to the song? I mean just because you’ve already reacted to the song doesn’t mean you can’t make a reaction to the history video too right? Or maybe you can do a re reaction in like 6 months to the song and history vid like you do for the ones you forgot to do a history reaction to at the beginning?
@@TouchyReactions Which others did you react to? I mean luckily you still have a Bulgarian, stormtrooper song among other topics you can wait for since their sabaton history videos aren’t out yet.
I have a schedule. My Patrons are a month ahead on Patreon. I did Dreadnought and Gott Mit Uns this month because they were the two songs from the concert set list that I had not yet reacted to.
As a interesting fact Paul Reynaud France ex prime minister that was saved during this battle actualy whent on to do more politique and was one of the biggest influence to create the EU and NATO
Fun fact: this was voted as their most underrated song in a fan poll set up by Sabaton themselves.
Cool 😎
How can it be underrated if it was voted most underrated?

Fully agree
Every Sabaton fan I talk to loves this song. I don’t know why they have never done it live.
I think they base the set lists on download numbers and new album tracks. Not sure though.

Thank you 😊
15:16 I’m shocked there’s not a bloody movie on this it would be soo good if done right. They literally have the perfect story here.
Agreed
I think there is
EDIT: no I was wrong
Someone make a movie about this awesome story already!
I know right
If there isn't already a movie about this, there damn well needs to be!

Beyond the Black did an amazing acoustic cover to Hell and Back.
And I just heard Follow the Cypher's version of Carol's Rex (very enjoyable)
