Yes, unfortunately, Sabaton dropped the History lesson for "Dreadnought" a couple of days before this video dropped. It is what it is. I still love the song. Unfortunate timing 😕.
To answer your question on what was the longest shot from a battleships: The longest shot is that from HMS Warspite during WW2 by hitting the Italian Battleship Giulio Cesare at a range of approximately 24 km (26,000 yd).
Jesus
There is another shot that is roughly that long, when the german battleship Scharnhorst hit the british aircraft carrier glorious at a little over 24km, and it also became the only instance in which a battleship not only hit, but sank an aircraft carrier
Of course it was fuckin WARSPITE
24 KM!!!! THATS THE DISTANCE FROM ME TO TORONTO WTFFFFFF
Can we take a moment to appreciate how GREAT their guitar solos are? And pretty much all their songs have one. You'd think they'd run out of ideas at some point. Insane.
Yeah, so many solos in the world and they still find new ones.
Tommy (Guitarist) is a fucking amazing musician in his own right. He has his CZcams where he makes his own content.
There is still one Dreadnought era battleship still afloat: the USS Texas, which is a museum ship in La Porte, Texas.
Wow! Cool!
I'm pretty sure it's in dry dock right now. Sabaton visited it a few weeks ago and did a whole vlog about it.
It's bad that there are no more ships like that....
From WW1 we have the battleship Mikasa too in Japan (pre-Dreadnought class)
@@-Griffin- There's also Admiral George Dewey's Flagship from the battle of Manila Bay in 1898, USS Olympia, which is in Philadelphia.
@@jasonpade4949 Thanks you ! I didn't know that ! Cool, 1 more !
I really wish at least one WWI veteran could have heard these songs. Oh well, so sad they’ll never how awesome we think they were.
They literally just posted the history video for this two days ago
He recorded this video in September, way before the Sabaton History video came out.
@@evaczarnojanczyk1432 I know
Yeah, I know. Unfortunate timing 😕.
They made one 2 days ago if you get a chance to see it
Yeah, I know. Unfortunate timing 😕.
*_The ship that change everything!_*
Dreadnought is tied with Stormtroopers for my favorite off the album, but Dreadnaught hits that sweet spot because I love all things that are big metal things with guns. Wether they float, fly or roll 😂
Edit: if your interested in learning more naval centered stuff check out Drachinefel, and battleship new jerseys channels
One of my absolute favourite songs from Sabaton. The chorus is just perfect, and I can't help but singing along every single time.
Yes, it's very catchy
What i always loved about HMS Dreadnaught was the simple fact, that in Royal navy there was a tradition, to give new ships a motto, that will guide the crew and give it personality. But when HMS Dreadnaught came, he was not given one, as the name itself was it's motto, it was the most powerfull ship ever to set sail at that point, nearly unchallanged.
Cool, thanks Lewy
@@TouchyReactions also the lyrics in the song:
"The North Sea has drawn them near
The fleet of the High Seas approach
A contest of titans commence
These days will dictate their fate
The grand fleet prepares their guns
Unleashed as the dreadnoughts clash at last"
Are direct reference to Jutland battle in WW1 which would become first and arguebly greatest battle this types of ships would ultimatly have, where German Kaiserlichemarine and British Royal Navy clashed in only big scale WW1 naval battle.
the big contributor to hms dreadnoughts speed is the switch to steam turbines instead of vertical expansion engines, steam turbines put out so much more power per tonne of machinery compared to the older vertical expansion engines.
longest recorded battleship to surface ship hits: hms warspite -> giulio cesare 24km
scharnhorst -> hms glorious 24km
honorary mention: yamato almost managed to hit uss white plains at a range of (iirc) over 30km, the straddling 18.1" shells from yamato still damaged uss white plains from the shells exploding in the water
Of all the dreadnoughts built before the age of modern battleships, only one remains - USS Texas.
I somehow missed this video in all the recent content, but better late than never lol.
33:25 - Seven, I think, and they're probably labelled. One says "Monday", second one says "Tuesday", third one "Wednesday", fourth one...
I hope you're right
old adage
"Red Sky in morning, Sailor Take Warning.
Red Sky at night Sailor's Delight."
Yes
My favorite song from the last album. Chorus has a huge hook, no arguments here.
On a sidenote: Just before you dropped this video Sabaton History dropped their Dreadnought episode, lol.
Soooooo...what's the plan?😁
Yeah, I know. Unfortunate timing 😕.
He should react to the sabaton history video as well it’s not very time consuming either. I assume that’s what you’re hinting at in the end of your comment. If so I agree. Definitely worth reacting to if he can.
What I love about Dreadnought...well I love the whole song but...is if you close your eyes during the chorus and just listen to the rhythm of it; it feels like a ship going up and down as it travels through the seas, with the "And the dreadnoughts dread nothing at all" feeling like the ship just crested through a wave without a problem.
Nice visual
you made an excellent choice Simon does amazing documentaries
Even tho you didn’t in this vid I highly suggest checking out the sabaton history video for this song it covers things that add way more interesting information.
I will. Thanks Melkor
It's true that it's a slow song but the chorus is sooooo epic that I don't mind at all. In fact, I'm amazed that, after so many years they are still able to compose such an amazing chorus, one that not only competes and wins against many of those from their own previous songs but also against those of any other metal group out there. Like with the Bismarck song, you can't hope to be more Metal than 50.000 tons of steel...
Anyway, if Touchy wants to to read about the most amazing U.S. government sponsored project ever, the incredible production speed for all those Liberty Ships during WWII is mindblowing (we are talking here about EFFICIENCY, otherwise we have the Apollo Program and the Manhattan Project...).
hms warspite has longest hit in battleship to battleship combat in ww2 and she was a dreadnought type battleship
Wasn't she upgraded to Elizabeth class Battleships ship at that stage of her life?
@@samuel10125 Elizabeth class battleship is a super dreadnought type battleship
it's good that you have selected a video with a lot of real footage. Even the game one have a good staging
For exemple, at 3:25 , it's the real Bismarck in battle against the Hood and the Prince of Wales
The official Sabaton video, as often, is not explicit enough to understand
I loved this one! I like this style they use sometimes. Reminds me of panzerkampf
Another great reaction. Just a quick note. The lyric video mentioned you can see museum battleships, such as USS Iowa. This is true, but most Battleship Museums are not Dreadnoughts, those vessels basically disappeared after the Washington naval Treaty after WW1. Most were scrapped, some did manage to fight in WW2, but no new ships were built. They were replaced by battlecruisers and fast battleships, that's what most museums are of. However, there is one surviving Dreadnought in the world, and she's currently under repairs. So if you ever want to set foot on a real life Dreadnought, then USS Texas is your goal.
Neat reaction video. Great song. Hmm . . .
Yep, the song definitely contains a reference to the Battle of Jutland. Last great clash of surface battlefleets, tactical victory for the Germans in that they sank more than they lost, but a strategic victory for the Royal Navy in that they kept command of the seas.
I suppose the thing about HMS Dreadnought is that she was the first of her kind, everyone else now had a good idea of what a battleship should be and in a field of rapidly evolving technology she was soon surpassed. Interesting that naval gunnery was the first use of computers in warfare; which kinda make sense; you're moving, the targets moving and the shell will take a while to reach it's target at long range . . . paper & pencil aint gonna cut it.
I must now check out Sabaton's historical video.
HMS Warspite scored the longest Ship on ship hit against the Italian Navy
Even that HMS Dreadnought didnt see any action, other dreadnought class ships did in battle of jutland.
I would suggest that you also take a look at a channel called "The Great War" it is a channel by Indy Neidell as he talks about WW1 events there is a video he is talking about the battle of Jutland which is the battle the song is talking about.
Great War channel is soo good literally the best ww1 related channel on CZcams.
Torpedo nets work in a similar fashion as spaced armour on tanks. it's purpose is to cause the incoming projectile to detonate before it reaches somewhere it can damage the ship/tank it's protecting.
tried
Purple heart is in the can. Out in December
@@TouchyReactions Can't wait to see it
Still waiting for a reaction to Unbreakable, surprised you havent done it yet since you've gone through so much of their discography! Its from the Art of War and has a nice unofficial animated video that fits it well if you wanna do that one.
Hate to break it to you and some comments have touched on it, but the construction of "Dreadnoughts" did NOT extend to 1935. There lifetime was short ending about 1918. The famous HMS Hood, for instance, was launched in 1920 but was NOT considered a "Dreadnought" but a "battlecruiser".
To answer the question on what killed the 35 year life span of the post dreadnought battleship that would be the Aircraft Carrier.
With the advance in air power like you say with the Aircraft carrier battleships became sitting ducks and nothing proves this more than the regrettable sinking of HMs Prince of Wales and Repulse was it? in the Pacific by the way Japanese.
Not to mention the cost of building and maintenance.
Can react to Sabaton history as well, it is good😁
Great song also the artwork Is the USS Texas the last dreadnought
This song is in my top 3 ,together with stormtroopers and Valley of Death ,so I really hope that you will check the last one :)
But sabaton history made a video on dreadnought two days before this was uploaded
Just a question. So I'm doing a history project for school. Do you have a link to this video so I could use it. Greatly appreciated
There is a share option under the video.
@@TouchyReactions thank you so much
the Iowa is not a dreadnought. though they may have taken certain things in consideration when designing the Iowa class of battleships, But the Iowa, New Jersey, Missouri were not dreadnoughts... they were "fast battleships". The USS Texas is the last dreadnought, and the Arkansas was a "super dreadnought" built under the standard system instead of the metric system.
Hey when the history video for Stormtroopers comes out it’s very likely is the next one being made there are just 3 left for the new album but can you then react to that history video? Would very much appreciate it I think you said you would wayy before when we all understood that the history vid won’t come out days after the song.
The stormtrooper topic is one of the most interesting I’d say and also my favorite so when the history for it comes out I would very much appreciate you reacting to it. Hopefully they didn’t sound unreasonable.
Have a good day regards from Sweden.
Will do. That may be the chance to watch Dreadnought with it.
@@TouchyReactions Great idea to catch up and get Dreadnought in as well.
Well I appreciate it and I’m certainly very patient so I can definitely wait for it.
Gotta eat breakfast now I’m starving cya. :)
