The ship used in the video is the USS Texas (put into service shortly before WW1 and saw action in both the Europe and the Pacific during WW2), the only surviving dreadnought in the world. Today it's a museum ship.

Technically she's a super dreadnought and even more interesting she was the navy's testbed for testing new things, she was the first battleship to mount anti aircraft guns, the first warship to use fire control systems and the first to launch aircraft and one of the first to receive the US produced radars

A song that fits a class of ships that made every warship on earth completely obsolete when it was commissioned.

I was always interested in WWII, and not so much the great war. I just assumed technology wasn't as advanced as it was. I was so wrong, and so glad Sabaton has kicked me into reading all about WWI now

When I was younger I was the same way. I don’t know if it was technology, or just that world war 2 seemed way more recent, but for some reason I had way more interest in WW2. It’s completely flipped for me now, I love WW1 stuff, everything about it is awesome. If you have never heard it, Dan Carlin’s Blueprint for Armageddon series over WW1 is well worth the couple of bucks it costs. It’s insanely good.

WW1 was a very weird war in that it really did start with more men on horses (at least until they realized that cavalry is of virtually no use whatsoever in wet, mud-soaked trenches, areas covered in barbwire, and the prolific use of machine guns) and progressed to aerial combat and tanks. And on the subject of tanks... the British tanks of that era were really freaky-looking. I don't know, maybe I'm just used to the way tanks have looked since WW2, but those early tanks in WW1 were scary monstrosities.

At this time, the Dreadnoughts was beasts, and the airforce was just strings and canvas.

What is interesting is that sample or "arp" what they use in chorus. It's very much like what is used in electronic music...love it

    People honestly forget that
Electricity was discovered only a hundred years before that time
The car has just been invented
Planes were just in their infancy and were no better than a glorified kite with an engine
Telephone or to be exact teli communication has just started to develop and so back then there was no aircraft carrier or aircraft at all and whilst there were many attempts such as throwing them over the guns with a ski jump or by dropping them in the sea, aircraft or air power wasn’t that big of a deal and so in order to maintain, power and force projection especially for an island nation like Britain which needs to be anywhere and everywhere, the dreadnought was akin to dropping a nuclear bomb onto anyone and whilst countries did poses proto or pre dreadnoughts such as the ironclads, they lacked the true firepower and speed of hms dreadnought as well as its array of sub ordinances, and not only that but whilst twenty knots seems slow which it was and is, hms dreadnought was the sports car of early warships and was considered extremely fast for its time as well as its more advanced fire and control system and its engines which became the baseplate for future warships design, but whilst it was a technological marvel and an incredible feet of engineering, the problems HMS dreadnought faded was mostly mechanical and crew related where back then most captains lacked any real experience or true understanding of war and like any new technology it’s hard to imagine or practice new tactics and strategies whilst keeping to naval traditions as well as combat effectiveness, such as say having the ability to turn tanks and ships invisible to the naked eyes or cameras however things like radar and thermal cameras can still detect it, and so how would you use an invisible stealth aircraft in theory and how often die that actually play out in practice such as the digger might, be about six trillion dollars to make as well as ensuring its technological secrets, and not only that but, now that you have a squadron of invisible aircrafts then what? Send them in to fight Russian or Chinese aircraft or perhaps the next war is against the taliban again in which makes an invisible plane almost useless outside of stealth operations. And so much like hms dreadnought or to be exact the battle of Jutland where many dreadnoughts were destroyed mostly because the ships captains use to leave their doors open as well as having massive chains of men hand loading a five pound bag full of high explosives just to increase reload speed which worked, however if and when the ship got hit, fires burnt uncontrollably and the massive lines of gunpowder reacted the same way a jamboree would do and so what would have been a survivalabe or minor damage became a massive chain reaction or fires were spreading too quickly around the ship

Pre dreadnought ships were too weak to fight and too slow to run and such HMS Dreadnought was designed to be superior in every way hence the pre dreadnought era and the dreadnought era because it rendered ALL pre dreadnought Battleships obsolete the moment it hit the water
The HMS Dreadnought displaced 18,000 tons (more than 20,000 tons full load), was 526 feet (160 m) long, and carried a crew of about 800. Its four propeller shafts, powered by steam turbines instead of the traditional steam pistons, gave it an unprecedented top speed of 21 knots
    Her armaments: 5 × twin 12 in (305 mm) guns 27 × single 12-pdr (3 in (76 mm)) guns 5 × 18 in (450 mm) torpedo tubes
Her armor: Belt: 4-11 in (102-279 mm) Deck: 0.75-3 in (19-76 mm) Barbettes: 4-11 in (102-279 mm) Turrets: 3-12 in (76-305 mm) Conning tower: 11 in (279 mm) Bulkheads: 8 in (203 mm)

They are cool and amazing bits of technology but to a nation were an economic nightmare, and if you want an example imagine the entire us navy where every destroyer was replaced with an aircraft carrier and that’s how bad they were, great but almost caused Britain to become broke due to an arms race with Germany which lead to a battleship treaty which limited the size and numbers of a fleet, its ships and its armaments such as nothing over thirteen inches in which japan, Germany, America and Britain signed, but was later broken by japan with the Yamato, Germany with the Bismarck, America ignored the treaty like always and did its own thing and the only nation to comply was Britain which was great and all, BUUTTTT the world has moved on and many of her aging ships where much like computers were top of the line ten years ago are close to useless now and so, Britain had to spend a considerable amount of time and money to modernize its fleet such as up admiring its upper decking due to plunging fire as well as improving the engines and fire control systems and most importantly up arming or even downgrade their new guns in order to fit treaty standards, which worked until ww2 kicked off leaving Britain with a massive and outdated navy where some of her ships are over fifty years old and due to the naval treaty limiting battleship weapons sizes, the British found that many of their retrofitting didn’t work as they intended and most of the newer ships were rushed into combat and so had massive teasing issues such as gun malfunctions or the turret won’t turn or engine failure, and so being under gunned, under sized and un armored it was a massive shock when much larger ships such as japan, Germany and even America were building far larger warships, and the British lacked the firepower to do any real damage and not only that but many British ships lacked anti aircraft guns since the admiralty believed that most combat would be ship to ship combat but things like the pacific war and the Bismarck shattered those beliefs.
