- Hello and welcome to Lord Fenton Gaming plays Neverwinter Nights. I am your host Lord Fenton. In today's Neverwinter Nights build video, I am going to be building Pure Sorcerer Build. I am going from 1-20 Sorcerer build than 21-40 aka epic level sorcerer build. This build will show you all how powerful a sorcerer is in Neverwinter Nights. I am going to list my spell setups here and in the sticky too so you all can use it. Anyways great news is this is a one class build. It means one class and no exp penalty. It means you can straight up level to 40. This build will work with Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition. Let's get to it and do some damage with the Pure Sorcerer Build. With this build you can blow stuff up, time stop or send in your good guy guardian to finish the job. If you are neutral or evil go with an undead summon or try for the neutral/evil ones. Anyways foes will melt from a long distance.

On higher levels, shields is the way of the sorcerer and wizard for that matter. It kills last boss in hordes of underdark easy.

This game's engine many years ago The Witcher 1 devs used it for their first game before making their own. It's a pretty great game on the PC with mods to support it.

This build is freaking great with Time Stop plus what you can do after. So many wrong things you can do with a Sorcerer.
I always slot the spell combust for level 2, no save for a small amount of damage but it normally does more damage then people can regenerate with rings and monsters over time. Plus one of the few evocation spells with no initial save, and burning until they roll a reflex save. Decent for level 2, and i think its extendable too! Another tip for sorcerers (or wizards) is always take the buff for your caster type, (sorcerer take eagles splendor and i think wizards it fox's cunning), a smart choice is to empower or maximize it for At LEAST a +1 bonus, and empowered spell mantle (level 7 spell for base and i think empowered increases spell level by 1? So 8) rather then wasting a slot that could hold another 9th level spell. Also, if you struggle vs spell immune people who hit like trucks (such as outsiders) consider using greater stone skin and if you can fit these spells :elemental shield acid shealth and death armor, your stoneskin will absorb the damage you "should" take and instead they take damage from all your shields. If you really wanted you could go on the front lines with this. For some reason the Shields dont count for 'spell immunity' so there is no way to block it besides elements resistance, and then the magic damage from death armor will pierce that.
That is a pretty good setup.

Pure caster amazing,i like to do in another way,i do this one 17 lvl mage especialist(more spells level),20 lvl sorcerer,and last 3 levels thief,and go for the UMD skill,(Use magic device),and even get skill focus on UMD,and epic version too,and craft some wands ,last time i did my spell "Everard black tentacle did more than 100 damage on hit,and your familiar get bonus from both side,mage and sorcerer,Damage spells on Sorc side and pratical spells on Wiz side.

Hi there I'm new to Neverwinter nights. Thank you for making these videos! I was wondering are these builds ment to be used in the main campian or are they supposed to be used in the expansion packs
Your welcome. These builds can be used during the main campaign, expansions, player made modules and anything else.
I wish we had a little more of a role-playing aspect as a arcane caster, like the ability to Bind creatures to Our service, or imprison them and draw off their power, And i find it silly that guards/civilans completely ignore you casting a spell, if you were a guard someone hidden in a cloak began waving their hands and saying arcane words, you would assume hostility, similar to if that person drew a weapon. Or if the citizens were distrustful of wizards/sorcerers and would attack on sight (similar to how Dos2 handled the undead characters) unless you concealed your face with a cloak or helmet. Maybe theres server that does all this stuff, but i wish it was in the vanilla version of the game, just some thoughts on arcane casters
I do wish that about undead and more in roleplaying. I know Ravenloft server there are modifiers for races and certain class combos. For example if you wear an hood good chance of not being detected in an area where your not welcome. Still I hope they do that in the future like DOS 2 did with the undead which is great.
I have discovered how broken time stop is, you can time stop inside a time stop, i have found time stop + thunderclap+ empowered firebrand or spam delayed fireball
Time Stop in this game is OP. So many good combos and glad you found one of them.
You seem to align more to the short but Powerful summons, There is a level 7 spell (im a fan of it for it being immune to crits, making it better meat shield, in my opinion) it is called mordikienen's sword , summons a construct with *decent* duration , plus its a construct meaning a immune to critical hits meat shield , but unbuffed it has a strength of 19
Also, why take displacement and level 2 invisible instead of improved invisible?

I did was use the summon that helped out in other fields. The Greater Planar one is the best summons out there. Sure no Critical immunities still has other features. Mord's is a good sword. I went with Displacement because of more of the defenses it has to offer. Improved Invis is great until someone with True Seeing can wreck it. Those are the reasons before that.

Question about gear: i remember once i found a palidan/cleric (i needed at least 1 in that class) exclusive necklace, this was with a pure sorcerer so no multiclass like the one im running atm. It had a +6 charisma (Huge) and bonus feat: extra turning. I forgot what it is called but if i find it again, would you recommend my sorcerer/monk/palidan use it? I dont plan on using turn undead so the feat will be wasted, with palidan level 1 the +6 charisma also translates to saves (so it is basically a scrab of protection + 6 with bonus to spell casting) is it worth it?
I see it like this. If your casting more spells than go for that gear. If you are a dire need for saves go for the +6 charisma gear.
Also i recomend find trap with knock, i found alot of trapped ajd locked chests

Ayy I'm playing neverwinter nights atm and I would love your take on shadowdancer. I'm playing shadow guard and I decided to go ranger shadowdancer.
I am going to say the Shadowdance I've felt two ways to go. The full beyond level 10 since I've heard it's epics are great while if you take one level you'll turn your sneak attack classes into a deadly killing machine thanks to hide in plain sight which btw is seriously OPed. That is cool your doing a ranger shadowdancer. I think I did something along that lines with my ranger with some rogue levels for sneak attack and shadow dancer to pop in an out. Plus the ranger dual wielding bonuses with leather/light armor is great. That is my take on the Shadowdancer. I might think about making an Shadowdancer build. Felt it is time next month for it.
@@LordFentonGaming I did a little testing with it. If you intend on getting lvl 19+, rogue is the way to go. It essentially makes you an assassin God. A single level in ranger might be good for favored enemy reasons. I think the bow is the best weapon for shadowdancer. Ranger vs rogue bonuses really comes down to magic vs damage. Double prestige is something I'm somewhat interested in. The first rank of arcane archer makes all your arrows magic.
For non bow options, barbarian or fighter look safe but monk is also interesting.
30:40 question, if i use the game difficulty: hard or higher will the huge aoe from hellball hit me (or whoever actually casts it)? Because i doubt my mage would survive 40d6 damage without his energy buffer. Thank you, and sorry for all
The comments today
The highest two difficulty I believe if any AoE Spells like Fireball from a party member aka another PC you will get the full effect from it. So if someone joins your game that you set on the highest expect you getting hit in the cross fire. So do be careful when you cast spells like that in a higher setting. Anything else lower than the two your ok.
made a gnome wizard and it was tough getting started. also i am finding there are a lot of technical issues in the steam version of the game.
Casters at the start isn't easy. Just use your summon pet to tank while you use spells. If out out spells range weapons and hope for the best. As for steam there is a few crash issues. I had some in the ruins and the older modules some crashed more often.

Finally found that helmet, its in HOTU, at least i think i found it, "lichskull"
Concentration 12, spellcraft 12, SR: 12 (found out the hard way SR doesn't stack when i equipped it with my staff i enchanted with +20 SR)
Im not sure how you received a penalty to charisma with that Helmet as my sorcerer uses it fine. But still found it
It's the cap that is why. It your close to it find another item you need stats or skills on to balance things out.
That has negative charisma is the down side. Unless you got Cha items for your sorcerer I'd look for another headgear or more cha items. It is great for Wizards though. I just got it recently and will show part 2 of that island when it's up.
Lord fention, i have question, recently i have been using sorcerer/palidan/monk, with a larger focus on charisma then normal, at sorcerer 16/monk 1/palidan1 i have the saving throws of an epic character without these buffs, (Eagles splendor is now Overpowered when empowered.) But because palidan ranks i can use armor (but i have no still spell, thats what i was wondering) should i use still spell or stick with cloth? Will i lose my evasion from my monk class for using light armor and a shield? My sorcerer, jack spellslinger who is a human can become a walking tank vs all damage (except magical) and if physical attackers actually hit me, it is negated by stoneskin and then it does acid fire and magical damage in return (and it passes spell immunity from outsiders and globes of spell immunity ) plus all my saving throws are 30+ at level 16, with rings of universal saving throws and the scrab of protection +4, very few spells do full damage and energy buffer negates elemental damage. Plus spellcraft gives me even better saves vs spells only issue is lack of offense spells (should be fixed as i level) im really excited for time stop and epic spells (on my pure sorcerer i completely forgot i needed spellcraft, regreted it in the epic levels, especially because it had 9 in fortitude and a will of 11 palidin monk and sorcerer have great synergy because lawful good means i can choose monk, and palidans get boosted saves , based off charisma, and because sorcerer focuses charisma (mine has a +12 postive charisma bonus total, meaning all my saves get +12, and this is modified by eagles splendor) sorry for the long comment! Thank you!
You will not lose the Evasion bonuses from the Evasion feat when you equip armor. However you will lose the AC and other monk related bonuses if you use armor. If you go cloth your fine monk bonuses there still. As for Still Spell get it if your planning on casting in plate. Later on if you get all three auto still spell feats you can keep that armor on. I got an evil build based on that. No worries about long comments. Glad you stopped by.

I have a question (sorry for all the questions today! ) i saw someone using a sorcerer x/rdd: 10, why would someone use a build like this? If i remember rdd loses caster level progression and it downgrades to the progression for caster level that pale master has (1/4 caster level per level=4 levels for a single caster level?) They also took dominate person, (enchantment on a sorcerer might be amusing but i think thats more or the wizard's domain) is There any real reason to take this type of build?
The reason being that is simple. The bonuses stat wise you get from RDD is this: 6 str, 2 con, 2 int and 2 cha. Hit dice increase and some immunities. Those are the good reasons why.
Another question , Elves get Ridiculous bonuses (especially vs sleep and enchantment)
Half elf gets the best of both human and elf (in my opinion, maybe even better then human for certain classes)
Of +2 vs mind effects (sounds silly on top of the paladin 1 multiclass) and sleep immunity
+ human's favored class: Any
Would you recommend this as an alternative to human?

@LordFenton I was wondering if it was possible to make a Sorcerer/Ranger build? I was thinking it’d be cool to be able deal serious damage using magic, but also have a good melee foundation (using dual wield)
I am going to say if you do this build than get a few spells for buffing your character up and keep a few critical spells. The problem is you have to sacrifice a lot for stats. At least aim for 18-20 than work on say str to help. This build is decent for melee but much better for towards the arcane archer build. I would be interested if you pulled this off and things goes your way well.

Any recommendations on how to boost charisma with gear, the only thing i found useable by sorcerer only is *cloak of charisma + 6* and im taking great charisma l , it so far sits at 30 at 25 level
There are other ways like for example spells and potions. Those two will help too.
Also, what makes cloudkill good? You mention it quite often and im curious what makes it good.
Let me see 1-3 hit dice instantly dies great against swarms. 4-6 hit dice has to roll or they did. If they don't roll a good save than anyone above 7 will take acid damage. It's a nice spell while leveling to have.

I have a idea for a build, matter of fact i might Use it (i Still have quite a few levels left, probably enough to get champion of torm 7) the only feat you will need is a weapon focus in Any melee weapon and Auto still spell 1,2 and 3 (plate casting) and alignment has to be lawful good
It goes like this, sorcerer x/paladin 1/champion of torm 8(?) , the idea is a heavily armored caster with access to level 9 spells, High saves (even higher vs spells!
and immune to disease/plague. And of course you free up a spell slot that you would use on a buff (divine wrath replaces whatever it would be) I was thinking wizard for this build first but sorcerer should blend Much better (champion of torm goodies run off of charisma) , ideally with this build i would say you can completely ignore most spells cast vs you (if they have no save then rely on spell mantle) i know you already did 2 of my builds, but even if you just have advice on what i should do, that would be great! Considering i probably wont be high level enough to grab the auto still spell line, would this still work without plate?
You need to use the still spell feat spells you picked so you can cast in plate otherwise heavier the plate and with a heavier shield the more fail. It looks good setup.
Yes, but would i be able to remove the still spell line of feats (using cloth instead of armor and shield) ?
@@jakegovson1813 If you use cloth instead of armor and a shield than yes you do not need to still spell any spells.
Are staffs worth it? Do they have any affect in the spell casting area? Should i use the charges on staffs or ignore them? What staffs do you recommend?
There are some good staffs out there and even a few gives immunities like Staff of Command for example. I'd go case by case for staffs.

How well do this and the summoner wizard fare in the original campaign? I find myself wanting to play through it with a sorcerer, with how much wizard/sorcerer gear my friends and I are finding.
I will say both do really well. Others told me they used this for their OC character since you can control the good spells you want to use.
36 sorc 2 pally 2 monk dex and wis give AC currently my sorc is in cloth with 106 AC

It will take time and yes I will come up with it.
Have you managed to beat the campaign using this build? I want to play more lightly armored characters but feel like it's impossible to beat the game with them in Chapter 3.
I did use this build on a player made module I will if I get time to finish it than review it. Just say I had to swap my tactics and rest in a spot I've previously cleared out.
You gotta play smart in chapter 3 the original campaign. I did toss in a few instant kill spells or heavy hitting ones with hard to resist. It's down to the foes who's armored and tougher. If some cannot go down fast just gotta swap it up. If you have that planar summon spell and good you can wreck the foes pretty bad by letting your summon do the leg work for you.

Try it out. If you got them hotbar next to each other try it. If not at least you can get it off 1-2 seconds after Time Stop wears off.
A question: what about having 1 level in Paladin at level 20 and getting the still spell line? And monk at level 40 to top off the stats of the build
The paladin would be great with this build because it's a Cha class and yes Smite Evil is based off of Cha. With those spells it's great. The monk topping off isn't bad either too just you need not to wear armor in order many of monk bonuses and stuff to work well.
@@LordFentonGaming people literally only take 1 level of monk at 40 for discipline and tumble and save points for it. Wisdome isn't even a factor for the 1 level. I guess it's kinda like taking 1 level in fighter for the feats.

@@jawin911 i was thinking for a long time on this and its just better if you want to play a sorcerer to pick 1 level in paladin for the saving throw bonuses and level 1 monk for the skills. You really don't need anything else as a pure mage, hell you don't even need the monk level just the paladin for the saving throws.
Plus undead gaft for paralize
That and if you go to 10, immune to crits.
Hey (again), i was trying to make a red dragon disciple with 1 wizard point, 9 sorcerer points and the rest red dragon, but somehow the sorcerer spells glitched, i can't see them not even level 0, is just an empty spot, do you know the reason?
That could be sometimes have two arcane caster classes can gum up the works and glitch one of the classes. I do advise if your going the sorcerer route stick to he sorcerer than go for 10 levels in the red dragon disciple class. Just no wizard for this. If you want a wizard than do one level as a bard.
@@LordFentonGaming thanks, i deleted the character, according to the wiki, spells for the sorcerer will only get to lvl 5, this doesn't work like with the pale master, where you can get lvl 9 spells even with just 10 lvl of sorcerer, the pale master is special in that way the dragon... not 😒, my bad for not reading it at first

How do sorcerer and wizard compare to each other at casting
They are about the same as arcane. Just Sorcerer needs Cha and Wizards Int for bonus spell slots. Wizards can pick and choose their spells while Sorcerers are stuck with the spells until they level up. Sorcerers can cast the same spells for X amount of times depending on the spell level they have (IE Time Stop 3 times at level20) while Wizards have to use spell slots to cast certain spells more than once (IE 2 spell slots at level 9 out of 4 to cast Time Stop 2 times). I hope that helps.
Sorry for all the questions lord fention. Yet i have another, should i have my exalted sorcerer (male) take automatic still spell, greater charisma (should equal +1 to all saves from divine grace because if im correct the formula goes: (if charisma bonus positive) add charisma bonus to all saves (meaning if i had a positive charisma bonus of +10 i would get a bonus of +10 with just this feat, this applies to bonus from gear and eagles splendor. And greater charisma is +1 per time you take it. (please correct me if im wrong, im also only taking a single level of palidan, as well as monk for evasion ) from palidan i have proficiency in all armor (i also took greater reflexes for +2 reflex save as with a dex of 8 the save was lower, now its always equal to my fortude with a constution of 11 ) so armor shouldn't really affect lower my reflexes) but i think if i take still spell i lose the greater charisma line of feats (too little feats for sorcerer man!) And maybe even epic spells. As for summons i plan on stopping time before melee units get to me. But im kind of paralyzed because i dont know what to take. (Im taking spellcraft each level i can) or should i advance a little farther down the palidan line for more immunities and turn undead? (normally if this was a wizard i would take undeath to death as an anti undead failsafe ) but i think turn undead scales off charisma? And immunity to fear and stuff like that will be nice for my human character. Do you have any suggestions? Is the caster level drop and such worth the palidan immunities? I think its 2 more levels of palidan (palidan level 3) for most of the sweet immunities like fear (just in case i fail a save) , should i take the auto quicken spell feat family? If your planning to cast in plate than Oh yes take all three automatic Still spell feats. What will happen is your spells will become still spells depending how many of those feats you have. As for greater Charisma take it AFTER you gained all three automatic still spells. As for Paladin immunities if you want them than it is ok to drop them. Many builds get to Paladin level 3 than stop there. My pleasure and glad to help others out.
Does ac even matter if ur debilitating enemies all the time? Unless ur facing monks u can prob debilitate enemies other than raksashas
If one foe it is not really. If it's many foes than you will need some of that AC from spells and other factors to survive. That is why I have a few spells up there involves AC.
I've read several times that a sorcerer must have one paladin lvl... Please, tell me why don't you add a paladin level to your build?
Good question. I did left open for people who hated to play good to have the option to go full Sorcerer and not be tied down by being good. Thus one part I did say if you are not playing good than the other two planar summons are alright just not better than the good version.. The second thing is I wanted to make a pure caster. So those are the reasons. I have seen people used a paladin level or few just to get the paladin Cha bonuses out of it.

Thanks. If you start with an odd number you won't get the stat bonus. So start always with even numbers and try to end your stats at even. This way you get more bonuses for the stat you really desire.

@@krin25 That was the only mini mistake I did. Now I would do is 16 Cha, and aim to even it out at 40. Yours is a nice setup.

Sure I can tell you this. +Novice to Epic Character Maker Updated 06-05 is the name of the mod and I did get this from the Neverwinter Vault. I do delete these test characters afterwards.

Once in that directory select other modules if original version or in the local tab for Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition version. Click that module and and your set. I think there aren't codes for leveling up and I had to use that module to demo the build.

I am going to say for damage both are good depending on items, feats and other factors. As for me personally I will say Wizard because of more spells options compared to the Sorcerer. Both are great classes and fun to play I will admit.

I did my normal get more cha, con and dex items for the saves. Anything with sorcerer spell slots if any I do too. If robes go for anything with to boost your spell casting or at least something like your alignment robes of the archmage.

To be honest, I don't even know how to play wizard or sorcerer. All I do is drop dead when breathed on. Why are enemy mages so hard to kill? Are they cheating?
Maximize flame arrow can't even kill basic trash enemies at the beginning of HotU. I don't know what's wrong here. I didn't have a single issue with a druid.
I can say is use your summons/henchmen as tanks while you cast magic. Good idea as well have a few scrolls/spells that can dispel casters protections too. If in need rest often just be on guard in some of the campaigns you might be ambushed. It's a hard road but once you are high level as an arcane caster your OP.
You must be facing Bioware made standard monsters, which are mostly pretty weak, plus you had some pretty good gear on from what I could tell by looking at your character sheet, and even if that wasn't the case, you are spamming "NoobStop", to gain an unfair advantage. You could have easily cast Bigby's Grasping Hand to hold your opponents while missile storming them to death, you can also dominate monster / control undead to turn some of those monsters against the others.
Neverwinter Nights is a highly tactical game, it's complex, and it's depth is largely limited to the module creator, and I've seen some very in depth online modules where sorcerers and wizards face monsters that just laugh at magic, having insanely high hit points or immunities which make many spells practically worthless.
Therefore, your nice little show of sorcerer is quite alluring to newer players, but I'm not much of a fan of magic users, cleric / monk on the other hand is far more powerful than your base wizards / sorcerers, and Dwarf Wizard / Dwarven Defender / Rogue is the most powerful wizard build if you want to make a real magic user. (They aren't afraid of combat at all and have wear weak AC gear too).
Understandable some people love this setup and others don't like to use magic much. Pretty good combos you did with the DD/Wizard/Rogue. Thanks for watching.
