I started life in Paterson in the 40's but my family moved here from Manchester ,England in the early 1800's. I still live 1 mile from where I was born.
I lived on Broadway right up the street from CCP, and the Towers...can't remember the school I went to on a corner next to a traffic light. Used to go shopping at Pathmark, and Supreme Chicken wasn't too far. My birth certificate says North 4th St. ....I was born in Barnet Memorial. I loved Paterson 😍
I worked for Paterson Fire Department and was assigned to Northside Firehouse. I remember when the projects were demolished. The high rises had a lot of activity involving police fire and ems. The neighborhood has changed some new construction on the empty lots. I saw a lot of fires in the Northside in the late 1980s and into the 1990s. Thanks for the quick tour. There were hardly any street signs when I worked there either.
My family was the 8th Family to move into the CCP. Where Riverview Towers is used to be Benson Street and we went to school 4 and when they built the Towers is when they built school 28. Yes I remember all of that, I was about 6 or 7 yrs old
The CCP originally had a waiting list when they were built in the 60's. It was "the place you wanted to live" .Then in 1968 that changed and they became low income housing to cater to the mass migration from the south of people who needed a quick place to live. I grew up in the 60's on Mill Street and I remember my mother signed up to move in but then the "climate" changed so we moved out to Haledon instead. What a shame Paterson turned into what it is today. The only way to change Paterson back to what it used to be is to change the City Government!
I used to live on Mill Street in the 50's and early 60's but my family moved to Hawthorne and I 'm still here. ( I bet you miss walking to the Falls though , lol)
North 5th st and Temple st. I use to love flying down hill with big wheels and bikes in the early 80's. I visit every now and then, its still the mini "Melting Pot".😀 It use to be a mansion there on the corner of North 4th and Temple and rich friends that stay there. In fact it's crazy how the neighborhood was then as far as building/ houses. The projects down the hill but several blocks up big houses and mansions going past North 7th and Temple towards Heldon area. Love that area during that time very diverse had friends from all over world in that area. Paterson is a small city and if the population gets bigger in the future new high rises might have to go back in production. Love ya Paterson, but its to expensive to live there now and then😄

I did not know that that the CCP projects were near Riverview Towers. And speaking of Riverview, I thought that was a project, too. But I believe, it is privately owned yet has a lot of residents with Section 8 Vouchers. Or maybe, it was originally a Paterson Housing Authority property just like that complex on the corner of Routes 4 (Broadway) and 20 (McClean Blvd) which I think is now called the "Parkview Cooperatives" or something. Also, I didn't realize how close CCP was to the Prospect Park and Haledon borders with Wayne not that far. I think the biggest thing that led to Paterson's downfall was that many companies with unionized work forces moved to the south where "Right to Work" states exist. And while I was too young to remember it, I wonder if the 1967 riots (which of course is what Newark is infamous for) may have migrated to Paterson, too. Although it is the third largest city in the state, Paterson, for the most part consists of many private homes or at the most, dwellings housing 3 or 4 families, as shown in this video. Although this city may still have some work ahead of it,, I think the combination of low Passaic County Tax rates as well as lack of "Blue Laws" is encouraging many people from Bergen County (especially Paramus where I grew up) to travel to Paterson for Sunday shopping. This was a fantastic presentation. Please provide some more.
Although people in other parts of Ptown THINK the Towers are the PJS they are not. CCP was though. They built a wall between us because of all the fights. It's crazy because we went to school with each other and played football and other sports with each other. As I look back I just shake my head at the relationship btw the Towers and CCP. I hated going in them bldgs. Elevator were a catastrophe and pissy. Although I can't say that the Towers stairs wasn't pissy too. Lol. I brought my ex and friend up to Ptown and the Towers and somebody had some fresh piss in the elevators. How bout when they got outside they straight tossed. Lol. I guess I'm immune.
Got a question did they demolish the CCPs? I grew up in Paterson but I was little then back in the 60"s plus I knew someone in the Riverview towers. Was the CCP behind them? It's been a while
Yes it is also known as the CCP! There were another row of towers in the back but were torn down years ago. The Paterson "Housing" Police headquarters was located at the bottom of Temple Hill next to the Firehouse and they were disbanded because of all of the corruption within that Department as they were working hand in hand with the drug dealers in the CCP!
