Crazy Bike Design: Front Wheel Drive and Rear Wheel Steering! Watch me Build and Test it Out!
Get ready to witness the creation of a bike like no other! I recently got my hands on the sleek and easy-to-use Fiido X Folding Electric Bike with Torque Sensor,
but while riding it, my mind couldn't help but wander. What if there was a bike with front wheel drive and rear wheel steering? I couldn't shake this idea,
and it ultimately led me to create this one-of-a-kind bicycle.
Join me in this exciting journey as I build and test out this crazy bike with a front drive wheel and rear wheel steering. The process was filled with challenges and surprises,
and the end result was nothing short of crazy. But I'm thrilled to share this experience with you all.
Do you think you have what it takes to keep your balance on this bike?
Leave your comments and share this video with your friends to find out!
Don't miss out on this thrilling ride.

Several things. Rear wheel steering is always harder to control. You need to slow down the steering to reduce the steering input. Possibly even limit the amount the rear wheel can turn. Another issue is weight balance. Ideally, you want more weight on the driven wheel. I think the longer wheelbase helps you out here. I wouldn't go shorter. It's certainly very challenging trying new concepts in the cycling world! I built my own front wheel drive, front steer bike that works well. But I went through several prototypes first!
Also steerer angle is reversed... Probably the main cause why its impossible to keep it straight its like pulling your bike backwards
jep, he should look up some bikegeometry first, before building. @@mihkus
I was thinking the same thing he definitely needs to take weight off of the rear and change the steering ratio . For one as soon as he set in the bike the suspension bottomed out the you could clearly see the rear steer tire flailing about from the tinyest amount of input
It's just a general issue with real wheel steering, needs time to get used to it as it escapes from under you, goes wider in turn.
The bottom of the forks are behind the steering stem. I think if the bottom of the forks are in front of the steering stem it will be easier to steer. Make make the rear steering arm longer to slow down the steering. I'm sure you are on top of this already!! Cool video!
I think it will make it worse because the wheel will want to rotate to a stable position (bottom of forks behind the steering stem) like in a shopping cart, IMO the issue is that single-track vehicles use countersteering to turn, and in this situation when the steering wheel is in the back that effect makes it impossible to control the bike, maybe if he mounts this fork perpendicularly to the road, it might be easier to control but I think it won't be as stable and easy to ride as a conventional bike :)
Completly agree on that What a clever project once again!!!
Basically the angle of the rear fork needs reversing, so that the wheel contact point trails the steering axis. Then it will be self-stable, and normal counter steering should work.
@@GRAHAMAUSyes steering angle or caster I think it's called
Correct. As with swing bikes the rear fork has to be vertical to avoid steering flop. I learnt this from building 3 swing bikes. My third one does not have steering flop as I have the swing point as close as possible to vertical.
You laughing like a little boy warmed my cold heart just a little bit.
Thanks for this it was brilliant. 😂
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi. By having the tyre/road contact point in front of the steering axis you have removed the self castoring action of the steering, and of course this makes it very tricky.
I believe if you angle the steering axis the other way (i.e. forward) I reckon it will work, and it will have the added benefit of 'castoring' again.
Also, thinking about when riding a conventional bike, when you begin to lose balance to the left, your C of M (centre of mass) is moving to the left of a line between the two tyre/road contact points.
In order to correct this imbalance, you move the contact point of the front wheel to the left so that your C of M is brought back into alignment with the two tyre/road contact points. And vice versa.
I am therefore wondering if perhaps your steering should move (the 'new' steering wheel) the opposite way to how it is now (in the video).
Just my thoughts, but in any case, I'm sure you will get it sorted out.
Regards Mark in the UK

Rear wheel steering bikes as inherently unstable, but who does their homework anyway.
The "Falling in the ditch" scenes are hilarious!😂😂
This is like driving a rear steer forklift. Fantastic build.
Next up - reinvent the wheel, but make it Square, and sell it to Canadians, buddy.
It's easy, you just need a good number of wheels, maybe 10
That’s already been done just not sold to the Canadians lol
Flapping head beady eyed people.
@@prsimoibn2710yeah and let’s make it 70cm x 70cm
Why Canadian lmao
Your work is always fantastic and very interesting to look at. I can't read the English subtitles right away, but I can understand something in the video right away. I'm watching this channel from Japan! I'm rooting for you.
Those "safety ditches" come in handy. Great job, and fun to watch!
I always like the way your mind works through your conceptual builds. It’s how we learn and grow our ideas.
You can tell by the laughter it's a kind of fun and joy you can only experience when you build stupid stuff. Man I love it!
Sáng tạo tuyệt vời
Go Ucrânia!!!😌
Haha, that crossroad where you tested the bike is basically my backyard
The fun and joy. That's what matter 😂🥰
reduce the throw of the steering. the wheel moves more than the handle bars. i also noticed a wobble on the rear steering wheel when you did manage to go straight. maybe a steering dampener like there is on some motorbikes to help prevent the death wobble. great build and great potential
I'll be following your next work.
Bro, l laughed more at your bumbling on the highway than at a complete season of any american standup comedy, you made my day :-)
Thank you for including the faceplant into the ditch…
Great Video
The down in the ditch, with boots in the air... Sorry, I had to laugh! Great Video! That's about how I felt learning to control a tail wheel airplane!!
That is some sick engineering, bravo!
This is a bike like a forklift😊 exelent work.
Allah Azza ua djalla te bendiga a ti y a tu familia... mi hermano!!!
Well done, you just invented an unstealable bicycle
For so long I thought I was the biggest crazy guy!!! ✌👌👍
What an awesome concept, build, and video. You had me laughing out loud going headfirst into the ditch not once, but twice. 😂
Thank you for making me laugh at the end!
Welcome to the inventor Monther from Saudi Arabia. I see that you put the rear wheel in a vertical position on the chassis, because the reason for placing the wheel in an inclined position is for ease of steering. I am very happy to follow you. I wish you more creativity and happiness.
Looks like a bad dream
😂really funny
SPEED WOBBLES like nothing else😱
Possibly the greatest sport/trick bike ever created. A super fat rear tire would stabilize it easily
👍👍👍
Too bad it didn't work out.
Happy you finally built your idea to see how it worked.
One must free those demons so they don't haunt you.
Keep following your dreams.
Man must follow his dreams to be happy.
i feel bad for laughing as hard as i did watching you go headfirst into the ditch multiple times x_x
XD
awesome video!
Me encanta tu otra bike.
I like the way your channel, shop, skills and even your English has been evolving! Keep up the great work! Love watching your projects! Greetings from a Bulgarian in Florida 👍
You did it well again. Congrats.
Let’s try it - freak bikes are for the fun!
You are sick! Best bike ever! Do more. I'm fan
Now everyone can know why on a bicycle the spinning wheel is in front. Bravo!!!
1. Why
2. Interesting concept and it looks cool
3. You gave me an idea. Could you make it (or another bike) with traction both at front and rear? I think it would be interesting to see how it ends up working.
It doesn't work, steering from the rear makes it less controllable because you can't even see the angle of the wheel as you move your handlebars making it very difficult to maneuver, another thing is that front wheel drive only works if you have a stable fixed rear wheel which is why most vehicles that has front wheel drives are tricycles and cars because they have two wheels at the back not one like a bicycle
@@traphimawari7760 There are E bycicles with one or both wheel built motors .Some of them have front hub motors and work just fine.
@@armageddontools im talking about rear steering not fwd, sure wherever you place the engine be it front or rear it will work, but that doesn't go the same for steering, the only time rear wheel steering works is on forklifts, not bikes, rear wheel steering simply doesn't work on two wheels alone, its just common sense

You should try to make a bike that steers with both wheels.
this project is very funny. Hahahahahaaa. Good job.
he should go with this bike in public and let others to try to drive it
There are bikes utilizing these mechanisms already, but it's interesting to see them put together like this. I think it could work.
Bullitt from Larry vs. Harry uses the steering mechanism to transfer to the front wheel (it's my daily driver) and it feels amazing. Black Iron Horse 3 wheel cargo bikes use the rear wheel steering in a similar fashion also... But a 3 wheel bike is MUCH harder to tip over.
On another note: I'd be curious if you'd consider putting Fat tires (4 inch wide) on a Bullitt cargo bike...? I have been playing with this thought for a while but I'm nowhere near as good with welding aluminium (especially if it comes to sturdiness of a cargo bike).
Ý tưởng tuyệt vời ạ
Excellent proof of concept, for the regular bicycle.
I also built my first trike as a fwd two wheel rear centre steer. It confused most who tried to ride it because to turn left you had to push forward on the left handlebar instead of pulling back and push forward on the right handlebar instead of pulling back if you wanted to go right. LOL.
I really wanted this to work for him. Great skills and boldly innovative. All the great things came from somebody at least first trying.
😆The angle of the rear wheel head will make the wheel unstable. Extend the frame and install the fork in the direction of travel.
You need a bigger rake on the rear steering wheel, as with castors that self align straight. Also add a small pneumatic piston and cylinder will help!
🤩 The energy in this video is contagious! Loved every moment! 🌈💃
I was so confused watching the making of this one-of-a-kind bike 😅 Great engineering 👍
You should do something with its handle so it's don't turn easily while beginning the ride. Overall awesome bike, love it
🎉 make a twin wheels on a rear for a good balancing
Next: bike with hummer crab mode when two wheels are turning!!!
simply amazing
I've built 3 fwd bicycles one of which I can use as a bicycle or as a cargo trike. They are still front wheel steer as well as fwd.
The main issue is that your centre of balance and the bikes axis of rotation are backwards now as well.. In a conventional bike, your centre of balance is behind the bike's axis, which allows you to turn the handlebars and stay in balance. With your new design, you are way ahead of the bike's axis and because of this, all attempts to balance are basically too late and you fall over. It is possible to learn to anticipate and moderate your steering inputs, but, like those trick bikes with reverse steering, etc it's something that you have to practice over and over before your mind and body adapt.. Instead, if you want a bike that anyone can ride that is front wheel drive, your best bet is a motor in the front wheel with some sort of generator/pedelec sensor so that the front wheel gains correlation with pedal inputs.. You could probably also do it with some complicated arrangement of chains, cables and belts, to account for the front wheel both driving and steering, but the mechanical losses would be huge, so an electronic/electric assist is probably the best bet... Or, if you want to keep the existing rear steer configuration, some means of moving your seating position rearward over or even behind the rear wheel would probably allow you to ride the resultant bike more easily.. Shortening the bike would also help as that rear wheel is just way too far back meaning any turn of the wheel is amplified
I like that it folds up and doesn't take up a lot of space if it was normal I would buy it
Love the concept! Can't wait for the video!
Yay! Thank you!
maybe adding more rake on the rear fork would make it less sensitive .
Great build :)
One thing that could maybe work would be to add a little bit of steering (5-10° maximum) to a long cargo bike. But this would need a special rear hub, able to both steer and drive, and enough chainline to clear the tire in curves. This could make a super nimble long cargo bike.
Interesting looking bike would love to try
That was the funniest video that I've been watching on the entire CZcams 😂😂😂😂😂😂👍👍👍
An over engineered Marvel. Pretty neat! You'd get it eventually
Good experiment and good test!!
TOO FUNNYYY, Maybe a shock absorber can help to stabilize the rear weel? Ciao
As the other viewers say, you need to slow down the steering. Try redeveloping the project by introducing some kind of momentary straight steering lock.
Crazy! Great vid as per usual
Brilliant 👏 😁👍
The front wheel steer naturally keeps the bike up. The turns actually assist you with keeping the bike from falling, however, if you put the turn in the back, the turns force you to fall. :D
Creative rolls Brother...👍👍👍
You need to look at the trail of the rear fork - the caster effect - to make the steering more stable.
Ha ! Ha ! Ha ! Man you're a genius ! Even when you do something useless ;-)))
I very excited to see the second version 2.0 with another wheel on the front for equilibrium control I bet it's all you need it to add 😉😎
I guess this won't go into mass production any time soon 😂
