Thank you - very informative with so many ways to test. Would have been neat to check one other quick home test for wires, specifically if wire casing is damaged causing short. At dusk or in dark garage spray fine mist water on wires with car idling. It the wire is shorting or arching should see a spark at wire itself and/or a dip in rpms. Not sure how reliable but you def had a bad wire so would have been neat to see if shorting was obvious. Also good check if P0304 code seems to correspond with rainy weather.

My lucky day - just discovered your channel and have the same suby so will enjoy doing new stuff in addition to what I already did. In terms of design this is one of my favorite imprezas. I think this gen design is underrated for some reason. Glad there are people like you there appreciating them and keeping them in good shape. Mine is in France gen 3 R 2.0l model - having a big trouble finding ignition coils for some reason. Do you think that coils for 2.5 engine would fit on mine as they look exactly the same. I presume yours is more powerful model there in USA. In any case thank you very much for sharing your skills.

I have the exact same Subaru and I also had my first engine blow a head gasket, destroying the engine. I put in a new remanufactured engine with better head gaskets and replaced everything else with new as well. Everything has run great except for periodic cyl 3 and 4 misfire codes. I have yet to be able to find the cause for it. 80,000 miles later and I am still getting the cyl 3 and 4 misfire codes periodically. Not sure what else I can test or how to go about testing internal mechanical issues.

I have a 2011 outback with 140.000 milles and I recently put a fluid injector cleaner in to the gas tank( i put half of bottle LUCAS BRAND) the next day my car started to shakes and loose power, also the check engine light turns on, the brake light is on, the cruise light is on and the vehicle dynamic control warning is on…. Some videos on CZcams says it could be the gas cup or the parking brake light switch….. I CHECK THIS ALREADY AND THE ARE GOOD…. Do you think the injector cleaner DAMAGED the ignition coil or the spark plug or the injector???? Thanks again for letting me know, i subscribed to your channel to watch all the videos you have… the will help hound people like me….

Probably carbon buildup. Something in that cylinder is getting too hot. Could be so many things. Valve not seating properly, and thus getting too hot, or an injector worn out and not providing enough fuel. Or carbon buildup. Id look at the injector first since its easiest. Get it out, clean it up or replace (usually requires ecu programming for calibration) and see what happens.
