It just goes to show that publishers are terrible at predicting what will sell, goodness knows what they base their decisions on? JKRowlings and Burton, both best selling novelists but turned down by publishers? How many other gems linger in drawers because some shortsighted publisher said no?

Yeah, but most of the gems lingering in drawers (or on shelves) are the ones publishers DID choose - and chose well - it's just that the amount a book sells isn't a measure of how much of a "gem" it is. Many spectacular books get published and don't get noticed.

I read so many books n the miniaturist I thought it would be kind of like a haunting melody type of story where miniature characters would come alive or something n then reviews were so gud but it was nothing like that..i wasn't being harsh but was disappointed not only is main character shocked with husband being gay she kinda accepts it but then she doesn't do much to save him n then his sister dies..the whole miniature thing turns out to be a clockmakers daughter causing distress to couples..overall it was a confusing disappointing read...😐😞..started off mundane n u kp looking for it to get nitty gritty n exciting but nothing jst nothing!
