  • Here's a little tutorial on how to create an approximation of that famous Tom Sawyer sweep sound.
    According to sources in the internet, Rush were using an Oberheim OB-X Synthesizer for this sound, not the OB-Xa. Let's find out how close we can get with the UB-Xa.

    The fact that the 2-pole CEM3320 filters can do this is pretty significant since it was SEM filters in the original OB-X. All it takes is some thought and the proper application of parameter controls as you have demonstrated. It should even be easier in the UBX as it will have the SEM filters among other tools.

    Tried it and got the same result, Excellent. Thank you. However, I use OSC1 triangle waveform to beef up the bass a little. Also, by modifying the UB-Xa atrophy preset settings, some patches might not sound the same after that since it's a global setting.

    Your patch is tremendous! Can I ask you something? Since I've watched a different video today by someone apparently pushing the LFO Rate to the max I got a little irrtated that it was not audio rate, I mean the 50 Hz I'm used to from the OB8s I had. Were it possible if you you please do me a favour and try if maximum LFO Rate is further increased as a target in the mod matrix, perhaps with multiple entries? My result of "investigation" was namely that, according to the manual, OBXa's LFO only goes from 1 to 20 Hz. If that's true I'm a little disappointed because back then I did everything I could that UB-Xa get's OB8's page 2, what luckily succeeded. The lack of SWM I could get over since one can mimic it with hardsync & poly unison but slow LFOs unfortunately are a different thing...

    • @tomnoise23
      @tomnoise23  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Hi, if the LFO rate is fully up, you can't make it faster using the mod matrix. Just double checked.

      The screen’s fine: I don’t see others’ issue. The benders can be inverted to make them behave ‘normally’, and the mod bender can be sent to one destination when bent down and a different one for up.

    Awesome kit despite what the ignorant synth snobs say. Sixteen voices, poly aftertouch, great sounds. Maybe Behringer should produce a face plate that is black with Deepmind 16 on it to appease some touchy types. Great tutorial, keep em coming :)
