I’m a fan of these types of videos as well as the repair ones. Keep em up! I got an original PocketGo on your recommendation and (apart from the very poor SNES emulation) was really pleased with it. You say this one has good SNES emulation for some games, but I’m guessing Super FX ones are troublesome. Can it play the original Mario Kart well (with position numbers in the bottom right)?
I subscribed for the repair videos, but i love all the content you put out, it's very enjoyable!

Can’t blame them for using a plastic screen. The Switch has a plastic screen.
Also means it can be thrown about a bit/dropped more without worrying about it shattering

Did you find out if the "+" and "-" buttons did anything? Could they be configured to be L2/R2 buttons for the PS1 Emulator?

The reason Yoshi's island runs like trash is due to it being one of the SNES carts with the Super FX2 chip in it. Emulators still have trouble getting it right so it's not surprising that the handheld isn't running it good.

Nowadays emulators have no trouble running this game or other games with the same chip..

4:30 We only see it for a second but that scrolling text is a Linux boot up screen - this would mean homebrew, additional emulators, Retroarch (edit: assuming that's not what it's already running but at the very least the DOSBox core should be possible to add), etc. should be very possible for someone who knows how to do it.
Yep, I have spent an embarassingly long time researching this and other emulators. This console is essentially the landscape version of another popular handheld called the Powkiddy V90, and people usually replace the default software with Miyoo Custom Firmware to make it run better and support other emulators. There's a ton of tutorials for getting new software on the V90 that are also applicable for this console.

I've seen this video last year and been contemplating to get one (well mostly because I was in a tough spot financially, we know what happened) but now that things are starting to take a slight curve towards the good side, I was able to save enough to still have spare money to buy stuffs like these. My q90 will be arriving sometime next week and after I got that, I'll be planning to buy the powkiddy v90 as well if it goes on sale as I love the clamshell design it has. I was actually pretty impressed for a $30 device with the custom firmware. its enough for me to carry around so i don't have to take my RG351M everywhere, because i want to keep it in great condition

It is a shame, but the super fx chip in the select SNES games is almost impossible to emulate
It's not impossible at all. Many countless emulators can do it quite well. It just requires some more cpu power than these things running on decade old tech have in them.
GldRush98 The tech in them is newish, but any low end emulation device, even the switch struggles wit the certain Sfx chip that is present,even the switch! Star fox on that runs at a very choppy 10 FPS. If you are running it on your £2000 gaming pc with an Nvidia graphics card and Ryzen I9 then well done but it is not useful over a real snes

Ok ppl I think I’ve been misunderstood. These lower end devices cannot emulate the super fx chip properly. It is not the age of the tech, but the configuration and os. These things can emulate ps1 which is undoubtedly more powerful. I am sure your phone will play it fine, but I am also sure it can play n64, ps1 and PSP fine as well, probably better than og starfox om your SNES emulator. It is a probable 2-3 year old cpu. The cpu age is the same in the handheld. The ram is the same age. But If I own a 9 year old car that has a top speed of 460mph and a 1 year old car that can go 264mph , which goes faster?

Just get modded PSP or PS Vita. You get higher quality device and the same, or better selection of emulators.

6:49 To be honest though, there's not a lot of handheld systems that really get along with Super FX games. Even the Vita can't manage that.
The Q90 is fine if you want your emulation handheld to match your Switch Lite. There's much better you can find for even just 10-20 dollars more.

If you want to play SNES I've heard the PocketGo S30 can play Yoshi's Island without any issues. You can pick up the PocketGo S30 for about £45 on AliExpress, or about £75 on Ebay if you don't want to wait :)

Have you found a small console that actually does NeoGeo Pocket Color games well? I speed run Biomotor Unitron and have been trying to find a good handheld to play it on the go with, and the fact that so many of them struggle with is is frustrating...
Seems like the PC-Engine emulator has the 6-button mode activated by default, which will cause input/control problems with games that don't need the extra buttons of the PC-Engine 6-button controller.
Yoshi's island isn't exaclty about processing power. It's more about the extra chip that was built into the game.
i would have liked to seen f-zero and starfox just to make sure it isn't just yoshi's

It's another Dingoo-based handheld, so yeah it's running Dingux/Dingoo Linux

@TheRetroFuture could the part that’s covered in tape be an EPROM? UV light erases the memory on an EPROM and I have often found them to be taped up. Just a thought

For PC Engine, You need to disable the 6 button configuration on temper to move. There are problems whit the emulator.

You can dump your own games with a Retrode 2 or a hacked Retron 5. Personally ill keep my hacked vita, this little guy looks underpowered. Good video Elliot! 😄

I have that Temper emulator for pc engine on a modded 2ds. It runs perfect. It's poor on this little handheld. If it cannot run gba and pc engine it's a deal breaker. Like the design.
For a few extra $$$ you can get an Odriod Go Advance. Much more capable, self build unit.
