I played it once..., 30+ years ago. Shot a 101. My caddies name was Smitty. Only time in my life I've ever had a caddie. (You have to have a caddie when you play Augusta whether you ride or walk, and you can ride. My Dad and his partner did, but they still had caddies carrying their bags.) Parred 2, 15 and 16. I parred 16 out of the back trap. Smitty told me to use a 6 iron when I wanted to use a 7 at a pin sitting on the front of the green. I flew over the pin into that trap. Put it out within 2 inches of the hole. Got my par on 15 by hitting a good drive, laying up, crossing the pond and 2 putting. I wanted to go for it in 2 but Smitty talked me into laying up. He handed me my 7 iron and said, "Don't hold back". (To this day, "don't hold back" is the mantra me and my regular playing partners use). I hit a great layup butI still regret not at least trying for the green in two. I mean, how many times does one get to play the greatest golf course ever built? Anyway, I always go for it now on whatever course I play with a long 2nd shot over water to get to the green in 2 on par 5. I seldom make it, but I did get an eagle on my home course a few years back just for trying and finally making it. I don't remember the par on 2, but I still have the scorecard. It was in February, misty light rain and cold as hell, but still the best round of golf in my life. Thank you Frank for having us that day. The Augusta National and The Masters are the best courses and the best tournament ever - in *ANY* event - in the world! Don't hold back!
Even when life has THROWN blow after blow at you , you can always turn on the Theme Song of The Masters and feel a bit of PEACE...................................
One day, I will take my son the The Masters. He absolutely loves the game of golf. For him it’s about the golf, for me it’s the shared experience with my son.
My Dad took me 6 or 7 years ago on a Thursday. We parked in the lot, and he said "Welcome to the Masters." He is battling cancer now and this week means so much to me as a son. I'm 49 and have been twice. It will forever become a part of you.
hello friends and welcome to november in college, where students are cramming and working on projects, preparing for finals week. They gather from all around the campus, into the library where tension and emotions run high, thankfully we have this wonderful theme to calm us down. Its a tradition unlike any other.
I live here now. Won practice round tickets my first year living in the area. My dad who passed away two years earlier had something to do with it. I will be back there again.
I teared up in 1997 when Tiger won his first green jacket and did the same today when he won his 5th. Amazing story of perseverance and never giving up, even when the odds were stacked against him. He overcame DUI, divorce, infidelity, back surgeries, losing sponsors, and father time to win again. Simply one for the ages.
If I ever had the chance, I wouldn't play the course. Here's why: Watching the tournament has become an annual tradition for me. Even a bigger viewing event than the Superbowl. I'm deeply grateful to Augusta and its sponsors for the online feed from Thur to Sat. It just keeps getting better. I dream of Augusta. The undulating fairways, the open mouthed laughter coming from the bunkers, the tempting water hazards murmuring to the best golfers in the world 'c'mon, you can get over me from there'. The anguish and joy of loss and victory. Watching year in and year out, Augusta has become a sanctuary for me. But were I to go...it would stop being that 'special' place it is in my heart. I would merely be a '10:15 tee time', and just one of the wide eyed fortunates permitted to trod its hallowed grounds. Sure I'd treasure the memory. But something would be lost. In that transmutation from dream to reality, a patina of wonder would perish. Some special essence that Augusta holds in my imagination would vanish when it becomes a 'place I went'. When I go to an epic performance, I never want to go backstage because it was the performance that made me laugh, cry, exult or despair. I think I'm at a stage in my life where I treasure my dreams as much as my memories. And I guard them now. And all of us here will be gathered alone together next Spring. At The Masters. I like that.
Jim that was beautifully written. I understand the sentiment completely. I do hope you have gotten to go and see it firsthand and if you haven’t, maybe you will get there someday. Thanks for the fantastic comment!
@@user-fy2in5wd9y I'm genuinely happy for you; what's the big cliche in use today? "You do you"? I don't know if it's an age thing on my part or not. I'm now 65. I can clearly remember going to destinations as an adult I had only been able to dream about as a kid. And it was wonderful. But today? Maybe it's the fact that my tomorrows are now fewer than my yesterdays, but now I prefer keeping Augusta under the bell jar that is my TV set. And as I do, I know full well that I'm merely experiencing a representation; mere shadows of the actual event. And for me, today, that's enough. I have no scorn nor envy of the Patrons reveling on the green, green grass of Augusta. If anything, I pray that they create memories to treasure forever.
My girlfriend, Melanie, loves watching Tiger Woods on TV, screamed "we've returned!!, and cried in my arms, as he won... then as he received the Green Jacket, she whispered to me, "you both are my heroes," with tears in her eyes... Thanks for winning the tournament, Tiger... he's my favorite player too..
A couple years ago, I moved to Ohio from Indiana, My dad got a job for being the golf coach at Kent State University, My dad loved golf, so every year, we watched the masters together, and it was amazing just being with him watching something he loved as much as me!❤️ I have a talent for the piano, and my dad new that, so he asked me to try to play this lovely song, I did, and he LOVED it!❤️ I now know that this is something he loves, I love this song for this particular reason, I love the song as much as my dad loves the masters. And I loved this song as much as I love my dad and how much my dad loves me.❤️ So just because it is a small TV show, there is just so much more to it! I just wanted to share this because this song brings tears to my eyes.❤️
I just got though writing a post on another topic, and came across this, I have memories of my grandfather who died in 1996, watching golf passionately, and your wonderful story reminds me of the last golf tournament we watched together in 1995... Thanks for the memory, @Ashlee Robertson...
I rather enjoyed the unique experience of seeing a fall Masters Tournament. Most likely we will never see another one, so the history of it only added to the entertainment and enjoyment.
Every year since I remember watching my first time in '87, the Masters & this theme is always such a lovely sign Spring is here & the dark days of Winter are over for another year!
First time I went to Augusta was in 2019 with my dad. We went on the Wednesday the day before the tournament. Looking back I couldn’t believe we got to the same year tiger made his comeback. I hope one day me and my dad can go back. That place is truly something special and words can’t describe how beautiful it was
I actually got to go this year and I will never forget it even if I get Alzheimer’s when I’m older. I’m one of golf’s biggest fan and I always love the theme song and it always makes me happy to hear it. I want this to be played at my funeral.
Oh.boy, The Masters Week begins next week.I used to cover this Golf Festival for the Japanese newspaper every year some 40 to fifty years ago, during that time I truly enjoyed my stay in Augusta. Back then, needless to say, Arnold Palmer , Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player and other good players were all young and strong and very attractive. I felt like dreaming watching them to play. I left U. S. in 1985 after 18 years of stay, ever since I watch this wonderful tournament on TV via satellite. Oh, I never get bored nor get sleepy when I listen to this performance of music. Thank you, ARIGATO from Japan.
Truly, one of the most beautiful melodies ever written. Hats off to Dave Loggins. I'm trying to master it on the piano. It is the perfect piece to play for a long time. It is a song you never tire from. Thank you...
Listening today on the first day of spring. Such a hopeful, beautiful tune. Up north, our golf-playing season is about to begin. Listening to this aways fills me with optimism for a good golf season. I almost always end up disappointed with my game but that’s beside the point. Cheers to all of the golfers out there.
We spent a night in Augusta last Feb. Drove around and around Augusta National. Just breathing the air and looking at the tops of the loblolly pines was fulfillment. A glimpse here and there was worth the drive. At 66, I have never missed Sunday of the Masters broadcast. Now it is Masters week, in a crazy year, perhaps a little calm can help.

I have been looking for this for a while. Thank you so much. So peaceful, just like Augusta National. Spent 40 minutes post-round Saturday 2017 at the 12 tee box just sitting and enjoying its beauty.
I have no idea why this makes me tear up, but maybe because I watched this tournament’s final round each year with my late ex father in law who stood by me even when I got divorced from his daughter. Lots of emotions wrapped up in this...
I have no idea why because I like crunch and hard and powerful....which this is not. But this Masters theme has always grabbed me. I love it. Top3 all time for sports themes.
RIP Dave Loggins. passed away July 10, 2024 He was 76 years young.
This will play at my funeral. On a loop. While that’s going on, I’ll be playing Augusta. You know why? Heaven is playing Augusta.
Tears. The whole time. Play this at my funeral
John Jeyapaul I’m playing this on piano at a funeral in two days at the deceased’s request :)

Makes me realize golf is more than just a sport. We are apart of something bigger.
I never thought he could top "Please Come To Boston", but this is Dave Loggins' greatest hit.
I have the original 45 by Dave Loggins of The Masters song from 1981 in excellent shape never played. With the cover that includes the words.
Well, it's springtime in the valley on Magnolia Lane
It's the Augusta National and the master of the game
Who'll wear that green coat on Sunday afternoon?
Who'll walk the 18th fairway singing this tune?
Augusta, your dogwoods and pines
They play on my mind like a song
Augusta, it's you that I love
And it's you that I'll miss when I'm gone.
It's Watson, Byron Nelson, Demaret, Player and Snead
It's Amen Corner and it's Hogan's perfect swing
It's Sarazen's double eagle at the 15 in '35
And the spirit of Clifford Roberts that keeps it alive
Augusta, your dogwoods and pines
They play on my mind like a song
Augusta, it's you that I love
And it's you that I miss when I'm gone.
It's the legions of Arnie's Army and the Golden Bear's throngs And the wooden-shafted legend of Bobby Jones.
We are back. this on repeat all week.
Thanks for adding this. There are angels among us. First turned it on and I realize if I listened to this everytime I get mad, I would never be mad again

CBS hardly plays it during masters anymore. Bummer.
I agree Lynn. CBS used to play it much more.
I feel like they played it quite a bit last year
They play it allways

Not playing it much this year (2020) at all. Bad decision on CBS' part.

"Please Come To Heaven"-RIP Dave
Thank you so much for putting this up....
I have no idea why this makes me tear up, but maybe because I watched this tournament’s final round each year with my late ex father in law who stood by me even when I got divorced from his daughter. Lots of emotions wrapped up in this...
Listen to this everyday to study. I love it, thank you.
A TRADITION UNLIKE ANY OTHER.
I've been watching the Masters broadcast today and CBS isn't playing this theme song. So we're listening to this during the commercial breaks.
Heaven on earth!
This reminds of the music they play at the end of The Shawshank Redemption.
Bring it on........2023 Masters!
I've been listening to this for so many years now. I had no idea Dave Loggins wrote this but you can certainly hear it...
I wish they would play this theme song all four days of the tournament, I am sure it would attract more viewers!
Instant goosebumps!
So nostalgic ❤️ love this music💕
This may be the best song ever...
I have no idea why because I like crunch and hard and powerful....which this is not. But this Masters theme has always grabbed me. I love it. Top3 all time for sports themes.
I want this played at my funeral
We are almost there - Just a few days away till A tradition unlike any other.....welcome friends.
