- Designer Kate Dickson of Dickson Design Group had plenty of clever solutions for her client’s semi-detached home in Midtown Toronto. See how she solved a common design predicament in the cramped foyer and turned a tiny kitchen into a bright and airy oasis with a grey-blue cabinets, a wood island and a custom coffee bar. Plus, don’t miss the 400-square-foot extension where the family of five loves to gather.

Very nice and soft. However, I find it weird to walk in to a dining room, but of course everyone uses their house differently from a flow perspective.
I love the vibes of this house the color blends well its cozy & calming.
Excellent renovations and I love the hand painted birds.
I’m not sure if I’m sold on the overall layout. I don’t like how you enter immediately into the dining area. Also it’s just a personal taste but I think banquettes while very space savvy are one of the most annoying sitting situations especially when it’s full.
Why is the kitchen 70% of the floor plan? Also - with an open layout that you can see through from the first entry, all you will see is mess - always. Two young kids and an open layout == perpetual mess. The kitchen will have to be spotless at all times for your home not to feel messy. There’s no private space (or delineation of guest / public space vs private space) at all on the ground floor? 🤔
Transformation brings refreshment and purpose. Love it. 🥰🥰
Great home for a young family! ❤
Very serene, minimal home. Scandinavian style, in my eyes.
The overall effect of the renovation is serene. The materials, patterns and colors chosen complement each other well. However, it is odd to have a sink backing the banquette. It would be very distracting to be seated in front of the sink. A sink island would have been more practical.
After watching Nick Lewis's latest video about Gen Z and Millennial style, where he roasts Millennials for loving hexagons, I had to laugh at the "honeycomb" backsplash.
Same! 😂
Same. 🤣
I use to watch Nick Lewis until I noticed he’s got alot of contradicting statements. First impression of him is that he seemed very honest about his opinion until it’s isn’t.

Drop the link to the mobiles? They are beautiful!!
Yes please!!!
Sadly they are not for sale!
Sadly, not for sale.
wierd layout
Interesting layout choices and clearly not cookie cutter, which I appreciate. I especially like moving the family room at back which probably allows a connection to the backyard. However, I would have added banquette seating in a less utilitarian looking performance fabric to back the window and entry and open up to the kitchen, adding some kind of semi-screening partition (maybe incorporating coat hooks) to delineate the entry while preserving access to the natural light. Also nixed the banquette-back peninsula for shallow floor to ceiling storage along the back wall from the front of the house right down the kitchen backsplash.
Very nice ❤
It is very dysfunctional space. You open a door and you face a table. There is no place to put your coat. You should have built lots of vertical storages. Instead you are building a uncomfortable bankets. How are you getting in and out there? Sink splashing water is behind. Open shelves everywhere. That's all create a visible noise. Backsplash for those who likes to clean groups. Even color scheme is wrong. Proportions are 60:30:10. You did not get that. Sorry. Also if there is no place for table do not put a table. Come with something else. Lighting with multiple holes in the ceiling...
Understand this may not be for everyone. But the client loves the space and it works for her family and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters!
Link for the beautiful mobiles please! 😍😍😍
Sadly they are not for sale
Who did the banquette ?
This house though .
Where are the white and wood counter stools from?
They are from Design Within Reach
Well done, it feels light and calm yet elegant. But the kitchen is too big, and the floor plan is so open. I imagine if guests visit, it won't feel comfortable to prep and cook while they are watching all over the kitchen.
Depends on personal preference. This client loves to entertain and be with everyone while prepping food/drinks. But understand that may not be the case for everyone.
Not a fan of this layout, from walking into the dining room to the direction the banquet is facing. Kitchen feels disjointed and just too big and waste of space.
Dreadful
The whole ground floor was gutted no character at all
bland at best
