Funny thing about the changed storyline stuff I remember seeing that Oda was consulted on and asked about every change that happens and had to sign off on it for it to go ahead, if anything this is Oda now getting to retell the beginning of one piece with a better understanding of what he wanted

They kept Mihawk says about hunting rabbits with a cannon. And I love that Zoro uses 3000 worlds, though he doesn't call it that. I think Oda has said that it was going to be the yonko, with Crocodile being one of the yonko. There was a really great video by the channel Dak's Sake recently where he used east blue to sort of plot out what Oda's initial 5 year plan was and then he used that to make prediction about the final saga.

Despite having a really cool design in the manga Mihawk he was never a favorite of mine. The live action version elevated him quite a bit. It's hard to even explain why because he's close to 1:1 with the manga version. It's just little details like his attitude, those hawk-like little micro head tilts he does, the pasodoble music that comes to the forefront every time he has the upper hand in the fight. Just really friggin' cool.
Him splitting Krieg's galleon in half also gives me faith that they'll be able to pull off the large scale stuff if they can make it into later seasons.

It's not that either of the extremes are the right thing... And this we'll slowly know in the anime later but this is important in live action as people have to understand one piece is not childish as it seems in the surface level with all the colors, imaginative world, goofiness etc. And this live action is doing a Greta job at that

I also think it will, if they do manage to get this far, will make season 4 or 5 much easier for them because with everything they’d have to get into that section of show? This take something very important off their plate without them excluding it.
There are very small complaints I have about certain things. I don’t think syrup village needed two episodes. I think watching zoro climb a well an entire episode was a waste of his backstory, think it should have been interjected during the mihawk fight. And I don’t love that Luffy doubts himself at certain times but that’s a small thing, they probably did it just to make him a little less anime protagonist lol. I don’t mind overall. Some things were completely rushed through so the emotion didn’t hit as it should have BUT that’s almost unavoidable considering how much they had to establish, I bet my soul season two would be sooo good because they’d be able to focus more proegressing rhe story than set up so I am definitely on board for this show getting a good run. And I repeat the biggest change, I love. I really liked the Garp side plot.

You have to also realize that with Garp, it wasn't really intended to be a secret as long as we think it was in the west.
The Romance Dawn one-shot was already well known when One Piece began, or at least, it would have been expected that fans of one piece would go back and read the pilot, and it's very clear that Garp was the design of luffy's grandfather from Romance Dawn.

Love the changes they HAD to make and they made them well. I only have a few things to complain about this season and one of them is from this episode. And that's that Sanji should've been in this scene like in the og. Since he's basically given up on his dream, he should've witnessed Zoro facing his own head on and losing and yet still moving forward. Would've added a notch on why he'd want to join the crew later, seeing how Luffy inspires his crew.

A lot of people don't understand nautical terminology, but a first mate simply means it's your first friend to join. the word mate is equivalent to the word friend in British parlance, it's not necessarily a title (like vice-captain or Purser or sniper, etc.), it just means you were the first to join up with the captain. However it can evolve into a rank depending on the nature of the crew.... piracy makes its own rules

What you say about the way they tell the story is very true.
When you watch the Anime, you can really tell that just one idea comes after another. I'm not a One Piece geek, I think I only watched 200 episodes or so when it freshly came out like 20 years ago but if I remember correctly, then these story arcs were never really connected. It's very typical for Anime. Oh we got this checked out? Now here comes the new objective or the new enemy. They introduce concepts after the prior one was fully explored.
It just makes sense that they handle the live action series very different to that. It feels way more alive and believable this way. It's legit better than the anime.

My one initial complaint was that some things they changed affected how each Straw Hat got to join the crew, so it felt like they were just putting Usopp and Sanji there just because.
But I'm rewatching it now, and with rewatches comes the ability to focus on details. Maybe they changed a few things, like taking out Jango and giving Krieg his just desserts in the Grand Line rather than at East Blue, but they didn't change the Straw Hats. They each got to join and they each get to keep their selves, but they do it differently.
Different doesn't mean worse. It just means different. And I love that this is a chance to relive One Piece in a different way but keeping everything that makes it One Piece intact.
Edit: And yes, I'm a manga fan, and I love it. I loved it even with the one (1) complaint, and now I love it even more, I get the shivers at some scenes even though I've already watched the live action, so... And the non-fans I've watched it with love it too, so they definitely did a good job.

i think what OPLA got right is that they made sure the show is first and foremost a good standalone show, after that they can start to pay respect to the original material. the pitfalls of other live actions is that they chose to follow the original material too close only to forget that they're a show on their own too. lots of sacrifices that hurt the cohesion of the story only because they wanted to copy a panel/a dialogue/a characterization as similar as possible.

    • @R3_Live
      @R3_Live Před 8 měsíci +1

      ????
      It's literally the exact opposite.
When there is an adaptation, people genuinely want it to be as faithful as possible to the source material. That's the entire point. If it where physically possible, having it be 1:1 is what a majority of people would want to see and would result in adaptations being far, far, far more successful.
But every single failed adaptation of an anime, manga, comic, game, etc has always done the same thing: tried to go in its own direction. They tried to run with the ideas and make something unique. _But that's not what an adaptation is._ People don't want to watch an adaptation of a story they love go and be completely disregarded in favor of some fanfic story that the writers thought was somehow better than what constituted the adaptation in the first place.
If a story is there and it's so good that an adaptation is warranted, then literally rewriting anything automatically defaults it into being worse.
One Piece has done a phenomenal job with this adaptation. Because not only does it stay incredibly faithful to the source material, but it does it without any extra "creative liberties" that the writers decide to tack on. It adjusts the pacing by moving story elements around and being creative with how characters interact... but nothing is necessarily "new" content. And that is why it is such a successful show.

One thing that i love about the Live Action is how they perfectly set up how Koby will grow as a character. In this season, his arc is about Mind, he is learning that the world is not black and white, not even shades of gray, it is a multitude of colors and he needs a strong mind to accept that. Next season will probably be Body, of course very similar to the anime, he will need to become phisically strong in order to survive the Grand Line, and will have to deal with being used because of this strenght. I hope they get far enough to finish it with an arc about Spirit, where he forges his own sense of justice as he climbs up the ranks with unwavering determination.

Sanji's initiating incident here to break out of the comfortable stagnation of his life on the Baratie and pursue his dream to find the All Blue is just meeting Luffy, witnessing how strong Luffy cares for his crew and having that heart to heart with him about his dream. The fighting is incidental and ultimately unimportant as its not the violence that matters. Luffy just naturally pulling out the best in everyone around him, spurring them on to their dreams through the conviction with which he believes in and pursues for his own.. that is the pure core of One Piece and it's perfect that this is what brings Sanji on board.

@@justacuteonigiriit’s not that specificity, it’s Zeff his father figure wanting him to leave and actually achieve his dream unlike Zeff who was unable to do so. That’s why he tells him to leave and he can tell that he will be able to do so if he goes with Luffy

Never seen anything from the manga, am up to date with the anime, and I do love the changes. I was on edge about them in the early episodes, but I kept going along for it, and it just all blend into the story like a charm.

If people want a more condensed story, with the con of having to cram multiple arcs into 8 episodes and - for better or worse - leading to some changes, then they can watch the live-action; but if they want a more developed story then there's always the manga :v

Luffy leaves a an IOU after stealing ramen in his flashback after marineford, it just said "Treasure tab -Luffy." He also eats at Makino's bar under his treasure tab, which she seems to allow.

Ngl, Zeff's stache is just *chefskiss* . No pun intended.
Need more smoking Sanji tho. All great chef's are chainsmokers. He took one drag LOL.

I like how you guys pause and discuss something, rather than talking over the show then later on confused about the because you didn't get to watch it while talking 🤣🤣

I'm glad they upgraded two of my least favourite arcs in Orange Town and Syrup village. All three One Piece mediums are great and its nice they have some exclusive content for each one
