Being outscored by Vlasic will leave your team in a pickle.

    Just a couple of thoughts.
    1) I get that the team is worried about season ticket renewals.
Though, having talked/chatted with people it seems like their prices are outrageous and some are even paying more per game for their Kraken season tickets then the Seahawks tickets cost.
That's just not sustainable given the popularity of the leagues and the fact that you have 4 - 5 times the (home)games for an NHL team compared to the NFL.
    On another note.
To me(correct me if I'm wrong) the fact that those season ticket plans were for 3, 5 or 7 years was due to expansion process and the league including that to have guaranteed income and attendance during the start of the franchise.
Now, if the do renew the tickets, it should be what the name actually states, meaning tickets for the season which is one year.
So if that's correct and we're using that(we need season ticket renewals and can't take a step back because of it) as an excuse to basically do the same again I'm actually starting to get a bit worried.
I get that the team(ownership) needs to make money but operating like that/not being willing to take a step back(and take somewhat of a financial hit) has a good chance to completely backfire as there's a good chance you're always a middle of the pack team that just isn't good enough to actually go for a cup and not bad enough to draft those difference makers.
To me you either draft your high end talent in this league or you're trading for it if it ever becomes available.
Hoping for free agency and trying to built through it just doesn't work during the salary cap era and with the fact that most guys don't make it to UFA status unless they're injury prone, too old or just not reach their potential.
    2) I agree we need high end talent(ppg player/s) in order to do something.
I would argue that this is something you actually need more in the playoffs(with defenses playing harder and better) than in the regular season because at some point you'll need to score a goal and someone who's consistantly able to create that for you.
Not really having that is one of the biggest problems for the team Francis built up before he landed in Seattle cause the Hurricanes are a great regular season team but once they're in the playoffs they just don't seem to have the horses to make it over the hump.
I mean, Svechnikov was supposed that guy but hasn't been so far, they can't do it in a team effort and they tried Aho inthat role and he's just not that guy.
    3) Having said all of that I'm very curious as to what Francis does starting this offseason.
Within the next two offseasons most of the core guys will become UFA's and all of them(besides Joey and Borgen) are in their 30's or even mid 30's.
Francis will need to decide if this core can do it and if those guys will be procutive enough if extended for another 2 - 3 years.
If not he needs to start trading guys away and accumulate assets.
If he does think they can do it, he also needs to make a follow up move of bringing in a top notch player, IMO.
Though, even if he doesn't think so he doesn't have to go scorched earth and completely start over with guys like Beniers, Wright, Evans(other prospects), Dunn, McCann, D'Accord(hopefully he can keep it up) and Bjorkstrand already on the team.
So that was my little rant(lol) about the current situation

Well, given that ya mentioned Lindholm, he’s now been traded to Vancouver in a rather steep overpay might I add. Would you call it a Deep Dive Curse or Deep Dive Blessing?

Is Matty Anze Kopitar? Or is he yet another Wennberg? Kopitar may have only hit the point-per-game mark once but he has led the Kings in points in 14 of his 17 completed seasons including both cup-winning teams. He has never scored fewer than 0.68ppg for a season (Matty is currently at 0.42).
Looking at the last 10 years of cup finalists, only 11/20 of them have had a player hit the point-per-game mark in the corresponding regular season. Most of them have someone above Dunn/Bjorkstrand's 0.80, but not all of them (2020 Stars, 2017 Predators, 2014 Rangers). Presumably those numbers require some adjustments for era and team style, though.

They don’t necessarily need a star but they can’t afford any passengers if they go that route. Francis needs to be ruthless cutting the weak performers.
Marner may become available if Shanahan finally relents and breaks up the Leafs core 4. Not sure about that one

I’d argue that they do need one star. One player able to net a point per game is just massive, when your entire team is inconsistent and streaky and there is no one you can really rely on to get you that goal, that’s rough.

Do we think Bjorkstrand personally knocking MacKinnon and Makar out of the playoffs last year increases or decreases their likelihood of picking him?

I mean they got the best look at his play.
