      that was the problem. the inability to even shoot the puck, never mind scoring. they kept passing it around without shooting and whenever they shot the puck it was either blocked or snatched away from them

      More specifically, we could not bring the puck up the ice through the neutral zone, either using tape to tape passing or stick handling the puck up the ice. Secondly, we are very poor along the boards. Address these two things and we're already a much better team.
      But what's alarming is we could not do either of these things whether 5 on 5 or with the man-advantage.

That's the coach telling his players to keep the shifts short which generated no scoring chances or O zone time. That was a horrible strategy. It should be dump and chase not dump in and head to the bench.

      realistically, it's very hard to imagine them being better next year. Huge Nucks fan, but let's be honest, they played WAY over their heads for 50 games and when they came back down to earth, we saw more accurately what they are. They were essentially a 500 team (or a little better) the past 4 months. Not sure how they get better when they are going to lose Lindholm and likely one of Hronek or Zadorov. Maybe they can get a good package for Silovs, but I think next year might be disappointing for some people. (and that's not even including the fact Pettersson is a shadow of what he was in the first half).

Also give some credit to the Oilers they keep a lot of teams to the perimeter and have had the best shot differential in the West all year.

    Heading into this series it seemed obvious the defining factor would be powerplays - Edmonton's is electric and Van's has sputtered for months - and that was a massive factor. Not getting a shot for a 4-minute pp while surrendering a breakaway won't win in the playoffs - the air left the building - and the series was done.

    More shots on the goal increase the chance of scoring. Oilers did just that, if you compare the shots on average of 7 games they out shot Nucs and majority of games was 1 goal game so something to think about imo although I'm not qualified to give any advice, just my observation.

    I blame Soucy for this series loss for three reasons:
    1) His one decision in Game 2 allowed Connor McDavid to have a breakaway for which he scored to tie the game 3-3 in the 3rd period with the shots nearly even (we could have held on for the win if it weren't for this play). McDavid broke free because Soucy decided to deliver an open ice hit along the Oilers' blueline against Hymam instead of retreating toward his own zone. He also took out Mikheyev with the same hit who was within reach of Hyman on the backcheck. Had he decided to retreat, then it would have been a a 1 on 2 (Hyman vs Soucy and Myers). Myers was partially to blame too because he tried playing the bouncing loose puck for which he missed and McDavid picked up the puck past him and the rest was history.
    2) Then in Game 3, Soucy earns a suspension by crosschecking McDavid in the face after the game had ended. This then forced the Canucks to bring in Juulsen to play in Game 4 (see point #3 below).
    3) In Game 4, Soucy's repalcement, Juulsen, deicdes to perform the same play as Soucy from Game 2. And this time he took out not only the puckhandler Ekholm, but his backchecking teammate Mikheyev (that's twice already that we disrupted our own backcheck while giving the other team an odd-man rush). Then Nugent-Hopkins and Connor McDavid sprung on a 2-on-1 and scored to make the game 2-0, for which we lost the game 3-2. Also of note is the fact that Juulsen's hit left Tyler Myers as the only defender against the 2 on 1 and Myers was completely gassed at the end of his shift. So there were two reasons why Juulsen should not have done what he did. Firstly, his defensive partner needed to get off the ice and had no more energy to defend adequately and secondly there was freaken Connor McDavid rushing up the ice against your defensive zone!!!
    I know that mistakes are mistakes, but these are fundamental mistakes, similar to if your Accountant thought 1 + 1 = 3, for that reason these two players need to be dealt.

    • @karlkarlsson9126
      @karlkarlsson9126 Před 13 dny

      I wouldn't blame one person like that because you can always add things up by taking into account all the chances the forwards was missing and such, goals that were supposed to happen if not this and that, things that would have even it out. You can also go as deep as into small details such as, if the player before Soucy didn't do that, then the situation that happened for Soucy would have never played out.

    One of the aspects which was dumb throughout was dump and chase, cede possession, try and play board battles in the corner vs bigger, stronger players. It's like Rick Tocchet turned the entire forward group into a bunch of Rick Tocchets. Except a bunch of midgets and guys who grew up on kale and whitefish instead of red meat so they're 5'8-5'11 vs a bunch of 6'2 210lb Canadian dudes on the oilers. We were small, and passive and playing a perimeter game all playoffs. We need size and pace on the flanks, big two way wingers, like 3-4 Joshua types.. only better. Our core two in Hughes and Ep40 are small and got abused in the playoffs, we need to insulate this weakness with more grit and force, North South players who can get to the net and cause havoc.

Screw you for putting trash cans like Mickhaev and Lafferty in, and trying to ruin prospects like Podkolzin and Kuzmenko. Screw you for refusing to play Hoglander on the PP and rolling out trash cans like P. Suter instead. Screw you for continuing to play Ian Cole, who literally scores goals for the other team this playoffs. I'm so sick of these 🐈 going out there over the years, not only leaving their stellar goalies out to dry, but also giving them zero chance to win by being 🐈 who are too scared to even shoot the puck. Oh and if they do shoot, there are only two options. Miss the net, or shoot right at the goalie and defenders.
