I get pulled away from blues here and there. Classical, a little folk, americana, country, shred, you name it. But then videos like this (and a masterful teacher like Ernie!) pull me right back in. I have had some very deep emotions come from the guitar (Pachelbel's Canon in D in a cathedral as the bride walks down the aisle...) but then this....this music comes back to me and hits me fresh and I fall in love with blues all over again. It's amazing. I wish more people (NON-guitarists) wanted to hear it.

Thanx for a reply .On a side note I was at a party and this guy hands me an acoustic guitar minus one string. He hands me a new string and while and after I got it tuned I played that C cord on the fifth while playing the shuffle in E. When I stopped people were like don't stop,no play a bit more. I felt like a million bucks, thanx. I'm 70 years old and still learnin everyday.

+coldplay xyloto That's great I am self taught also. In 1963 I started a surf band called the"Panics" I was 17 years old. I learned off records that my dad had like Jimmy Reed ,Son House and others but I lived in Southern California and the Surf craze was blazin so Dick Dale ,the Ventures and so on. It was fun but only lasted a few years ,then I went back to the stuff I started with and my true love. Good luck brother life is a long road.

Your comments take me back to a moment in 1971, playing at the Family Hand restaurant in Houston. Sam just showed up so I asked if I could play bass for him. Naturally, I asked to tune up...he just said 'Nah baby, I'm already in tune' ( he wasn't)
So I just adjusted on the fly...it was the same for everyone, I guess.

There's another video of Lightnin' called The Blues.
The one with the lyrics about that Woman named Mayray.
It's very similar with a few extra notes and some tasty minor pentatonic stuff.
The only difference is that he's tuned up a whole semitone so it's in F.
(There are apps that allow you to edit the pitch down -1semitone so you can play along if you don't want to leave standard tuning. )
If you learned this, you can learn that.
