"How much FPS games had improved in the lat 10 years"???? I don't think so. Suits better "How much FPS evolved graphically, but stepped back in gameplay terms since the original Perfect Dark". Because, since this game was released, never saw other FPS with so much customization, deep gameplay, and hard difficulty. The advanced setup for multiplayer mode it's simply astonishing and never was beaten for any modern game. I'm still waiting for a Perfect Dark 2, that improves everything from the original.
this game was customisable to a degree that no other FPS has been since. You had cheats to access all weaponry, infinite ammunition, infinite ammunition without reloading, invincibility, invisibility, focus drugs, you could disarm foes. If you achieved the perfect scores in the missions you could get customisable missions tweaking the health of yourself and your foes. It was seriously so much from one of the last good games Rareware produced.
Still playing it in 2016, so much fun and memories! Splitscreen action agaisnt each or other or bots is just awesome! Nowadays, I dont know any game that gives you as much possibilities than Perfect Dark does in the multiplayer segment!
PLEASE the voice acting suites the game perfectly, I could not imaging anyone else doing it and the voice actress that does Joanna is one of the best video game voice overs I have ever heard
Give it, ooh, 10 years or so. We'll see how you feel 'bout nostalgia then, God knows it makes you look back through rose-tinted specs, but it's rather nice to do so now and then!
The only way this game is dated is by the graphics and the voice acting, it's much better than a load of games of today's standards as far as gameplay, music and story is concerned.
@@finsfan90 please dont compare the lackluster halo to this masterpiece.... the only series that comes close is the Prime series in terms of pure innovation.... halo is just a run of the mill fps...
PD64 still holds its own against modern FPS games, and it still has better AI than majority. Only thing going for modern FPS games are the visuals. Everything PD still stands tall.
@mjxbox Yes, just keep in mind that it's a remake with the same gameplay. If you're going to compare it to games of today you'll be disappointed. This is for people who played it and wanted it to come back. (me)
im sure it works within the context of the game, but the way the gun moves looks different. Most FPS's, the gun moves as you look around. It seems that in this, the gun moves sort of like its a Wii shooter? how does this work anyway?
@Zoninator That bit is for anyone who might not have played the original, like all the kids who simply weren't born or weren't old enough to have played the original. From what he stated, this game is primarily for people who liked the original, but if you were curious, you'd want to know this won't stand up to CoD or Halo in terms of graphics.
@DaRkJaWs42 "Perfect Dark is a prequel to Goldeneye"?? If I remember correctly, this game came after Goldeneye, and I don't remember using a laptop gun or a farsight in multiplayer on Goldeneye.
i wish that we can get goldeneye not the remake but the original one on N64 i know nintendo has been trying to get it and rare is trying to put it on XBLA but we really need it and i might get this game because it's goldeneye but a little bit fast pace
@ooogmorg: Sure, I've played shooters since Wolfenstein 3D, but since I focused exclusively on PC games between, say, 1995-2002 I missed all the early console shooters.
@picoguy334 When I first got the game I wasn't able to play against 8 sim bots and wasn't able to stick them on "hardsim" (normal sim was highest). I'm not sure what I did, I played a couple minutes of training, but all of a sudden I was able to not only put them on "hardsim" but I was able to stick 8 of them! Just like the 64 version. So, I'm not sure what you have to do exactly to unlock it but that option is in there.
sweeeeet, now i want an xbox. i loved jo dark in the first one. there were tons of guns and you could level em all up. then there was the co-op so you could play with someone. this is one of those games that stuck in the back of my head, like parasite eve.
I think that the voice acting was amazing for something from May 2000, and the quirky humor is Rare's charm, so it being dissed is pretty dumb. Also, Perfect Dark is the best shooter to EVER EXIST. And these people obviously didn't play the Combat Simulator challenges. They said that you can add four bots / sims, but the more challenges you play, the more sims you can add. Duh. And the big thing is that no other games have as many options. Counter-op, characters and different sims, etc.
Perfect Dark for the N64 brings to me and my cousins the best multiplayers hours, very fun, I think, even today this game has the most creative multiplayer modes.
@fallinawayfromcali12 aint a 12 year but i tried playing it and i get stuck after getting the necklace. i'll just save the points for later DLC on other games
@Ross175 Like RyojinOrion, I agree with you. But you should remember that Goldeneye and Perfect Dark came directly from Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM. I was brought up on Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM. So I guess that I may be a little biased.
Actually, Rare maintained the rights to Perfect Dark as a third party developer. When Rare was bought out by Microsoft Perfect Dark went with it. But I'd still love to see Microsoft and Nintendo agree to update Goldeneye and release for both the Wii and 360. I think that would be the best solution.
I forgot to say that this game is fun as fuck. It's really worth the purchase. This is a timeless classic that never gets old unlike most games this generation.
I had NEVER played this OR goldeneye before i bought this and i LOVED it! It's not JUST for the fans, this is an AWESOME game on it's own and this reviewer treats it like it doesn't hold up enoug today for new players to enjoy it. BULLSHIT i tell you, BULLSHIT!
@dkc4475 He's never been on the Sony team. In fact, for a while there, he was on the Nintendo team before he was moved to his current spot, which as I understand it, focuses on reviewing the arcade stuff for each of the consoles. Besides, it sounded like a fair review to me. Is there something he called the game on that you think he was mistaken about?

"How much first person shooters were impro-- streamlined in the coming decade"
Revanarx3 Look at us now

It was and still is one of the best FPS ever made.
Still playing it in 2016, so much fun and memories! Splitscreen action agaisnt each or other or bots is just awesome! Nowadays, I dont know any game that gives you as much possibilities than Perfect Dark does in the multiplayer segment!
One decade
*ONE DECADE.*
2024 viewer here... Yeah. Loud statement
PLEASE the voice acting suites the game perfectly, I could not imaging anyone else doing it and the voice actress that does Joanna is one of the best video game voice overs I have ever heard
I love Perfect Dark XBLA, it's awesome.
***** it's perfect
Majoras And dark.
Oh and the controls in the XBLA version feel so great.
"This is intolerable... This is... Unprofessional!" *gently hammers the keyboard with his knuckles*
add up to 4 sims in combat simulator? Wasn`t it at least 8 in the original?
Yes, the first person shooters improved and now we can only carry two weapons at a time
Best comment ive seen on here 👍
Gosh I can't believe this came out 10 yrs ago...I feel old :P
wtf half way into the vid i get a ad that never happend before
watching this reminds many how much time has passed by :*-(
@Scrotolotopus
Some review I read said that you have to unlock feature that allows more bots.
Have not tried this myself...
downloaded the trial but when i go to play it a message appears "unable to load, return to game library" so annoying, wish i could play.
I just want to make sure the soundtrack is still there and hasn't been removed.
Its still there
Did I hear him right when he said FPS's have IMPROVED since Perfect Dark? ._.
So sick. I wonder how they adapted the controls, how am I gonna strafe like I used to with the yellow arrows ??? Can't wait to find out.
@Camorouge2
Yes, I'm quite aware of the concept art of the original Perfect Dark. The XBLA version looks like a totally different person ...
i could be wrong but i dont ever remember leveling up guns, when how wahh?
big question though.
is the camera and controls re riged to support 2 thumbstics?
Give it, ooh, 10 years or so. We'll see how you feel 'bout nostalgia then, God knows it makes you look back through rose-tinted specs, but it's rather nice to do so now and then!
I have to say it looks really good with the updated graphics. one of my favorite shooters and games of all time.
I remember when I was addicted to IGN and constantly reading updates about Perfect Dark... time sure does fly.
Oh, I'm so downloading this right now... can't wait to play it.
oh this brings memories back.... dark memories :)
Yeah dude it was in a training thing. you'd have to either unlock guns and then go through the VR training mode thing to level them up.
Just started playing it on Rare Replay. Still fun!
The only way this game is dated is by the graphics and the voice acting, it's much better than a load of games of today's standards as far as gameplay, music and story is concerned.
The soundtrack for it is amazing! Only games that compare are the games of the Halo franchise.
@@finsfan90 please dont compare the lackluster halo to this masterpiece.... the only series that comes close is the Prime series in terms of pure innovation.... halo is just a run of the mill fps...
God damn this brings back memories!
@carbonman555 XBox? That's been sitting in my closet collecting dust for over half a year. Guess which cartridge system I'm playing on.
This game was so ahead of its time. Counter opretive? what a sick idea. why hasnt anyone else done this?
@TheCaptainBMX so your saying theres already a perfect dark with source?
Alot of games being remade or updated and resold at the moment. Pretty happy with Perfect Dark, can't go wrong with this game.
u know when i had this game for n64, i couldnt get the story missons. anyone know why?
You should had gave the game a 10!!!!! Who cares if it's dated, it's awesome!!!!!!!
@greattom12 did you see there review for white knight chronicles
PD64 still holds its own against modern FPS games, and it still has better AI than majority. Only thing going for modern FPS games are the visuals. Everything PD still stands tall.
aww how nostalgic, i love the weapons, specially the laptop gun.

i have a question i always wanted this game when it can out on the N64 my question is should i get it now is it as good as it look ?
I LOVE PERFECT DARK
@muchohumpty how long ago did halo 1 go on sale?
Can't wait to get this game again!
Dude come on, the voice acting is nice (for some parts).
can someone tell how perfect dark zero was? im just wondering.
Woot! It still rocks
Having this game on XBLA makes me happy, all the people who never got to play goldeneye could play this and just play temple with classic weapons.
@Zoninator That bit is for anyone who might not have played the original, like all the kids who simply weren't born or weren't old enough to have played the original. From what he stated, this game is primarily for people who liked the original, but if you were curious, you'd want to know this won't stand up to CoD or Halo in terms of graphics.
i got this today as soon as i got off work. The multiplayer is very fast paced but the single player if my favorite. Love playing old games.
Goodness!
They also put Arica Harbor from BC2 on here too
@DaRkJaWs42
"Perfect Dark is a prequel to Goldeneye"??
If I remember correctly, this game came after Goldeneye, and I don't remember using a laptop gun or a farsight in multiplayer on Goldeneye.
the map packs of course :)
Yes, yes and yes!
i wish that we can get goldeneye not the remake but the original one on N64 i know nintendo has been trying to get it and rare is trying to put it on XBLA but we really need it and i might get this game because it's goldeneye but a little bit fast pace

@InflatableConan XBLA updates on Wednesdays at 2am on the West Coast. So 5am your time.

@Optics233 yes it does but it usually puts you up against one or two ppl.
it's times like this that i wish i had more than just a ps3 :(
sweeeeet, now i want an xbox. i loved jo dark in the first one. there were tons of guns and you could level em all up. then there was the co-op so you could play with someone. this is one of those games that stuck in the back of my head, like parasite eve.

you can get more sime by doing challenges like in the orig right?
did he say we can add up to 4 bots? im sure the 64 version allowed up to 7cpu + 1human... why would the 360 be limited to 4 bots..?
I played this game for months back in the day, time to get it back out and practice.
Perfect Dark for the N64 brings to me and my cousins the best multiplayers hours, very fun, I think, even today this game has the most creative multiplayer modes.
just goes to show quality is timeless
@xkrazyxboix101 It should be better actually. The controllers we have now are actually built for games in the FPS genre.
@fallinawayfromcali12 aint a 12 year but i tried playing it and i get stuck after getting the necklace. i'll just save the points for later DLC on other games
This brings back memories. The only problem I truly had with the game was no Wesker skin for multiplayer.
@Shoyokid copyright issues :(
@spiderwebs7215 I want to get Twin Snakes but the fact that the VR Missions alone is removed is hesitating me from buying it.
My favorite game gets remade and i don't find out until 3 years later....
I miss out on Perfect Dark on the N64 with any luck we will get too see Golden eye for XBL next.
for the record...joe's voice actor is the donkey kong music person or somthing
@Ross175
Like RyojinOrion, I agree with you. But you should remember that Goldeneye and Perfect Dark came directly from Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM.
I was brought up on Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM. So I guess that I may be a little biased.
@ibrawltokill you can add 8 here as well. It's just the guy didn't do his research properly.
I loved this game, everything about it was great. Including her voice and the club fists.
Got it a few hours and had a ball (save for the part where the door wouldn't open in the Mission one Part Two.)
@Anime0rManga Do u mean this or Perfect Dark Zero?
soo classic, i would be REALLY happy if they released golden eye ;)
wow i remember playing splitscreen with my sister and her friends cant wait to get it

Perfect Dark on XBLA or Perfect Dark Zero?
when was this game originally released?
k this game is for 400 MSP now. should i get it? or save my points for something else?
This looks good. Damn good.
@howesryan have you ever even played viva pinata? It is good fun.
@TheJerseyer: They finally learned their lesson. This is not a remake, this is a Special Edition!
i remember being able to have like 18 bots but in this he said only 4 i hope thats wrong
10 years ago... damn... I remember buying this game the day it came out in 2000... I'm fuckin' old.
well, this is practically a dream come true!
