Fact: Perfect Dark Core, the direct sequel to the N64 version was going to have gameplay elements from Deus Ex. So this was integrated into the reboot.
The Space World 2000 GameCube prototype Joanna Dark looked phenomenal , I was so gutted when Nintendo sold Rare 2 years later , It would've been a GC masterpiece way better than the 360 Perfect Dark Zero we got , and almost certainly better than this reboot too.

Perfect Dark for the N64 was ahead of its time when it was released in 2000. It was successful for several reasons: the game had advanced artificial intelligence, it pushed the N64 to its limits, and the multiplayer was on par with Unreal Tournament. The futuristic and dark settings were inspired by Blade Runner, featuring flying cars. Best console first-person shooter before Halo.

Rare loved making us hear the thud of the bullet hitting the enemy specially as it was louder than the silenced pistol. Just not feeling the the same satisfaction of taking down enemies here.
Better by most metrics, but goldeneye had a better frame rate and soundtrack.
This looks good, but it doesn't look like Perfect Dark, exactly? I don't know how to explain it. Like... it's got Perfect Dark names but... none of the aesthetic matches Perfect Dark at all.
It's made by completely different people quarter century later who probably never played PD in the first place.

This is far more Cyberpunk/Mirror's Edge than Perfect Dark. But we'll see.

-The original concept for the sequel before it was cancelled was going to have parkour
-Laptop gun was revealed in the first trailer.

Nintendo Gamecubes version of a Perfect Dark sequel MADE BY RARE wouldve truly been perfect , even just the only prototype glimpse we saw of it at Spaceworld 2000 showed a much better designed Joanna dark than this one here , even though that was done 24 years ago. Ill always hate that Nintendo sold rare and that game wasnt made along with all the great new sequels and IP we lost that wouldve been properly continued😢

Honestly, I like this new direction. Remember, the story of the original took place in 2022, and its aesthetics were "20 minutes into the future". I think the aesthetics of this trailer are pretty on point for what "20 minutes into the future" looks like in 2024. Plus, the end of the trailer confirms aliens will still be around, so as long as they keep the crazy and cool weapons and gadgets from the original, I think this will be a good successor.

@@XanderVJ For me the deeper issue is the gameplay/structure. I really love the video game-y feel of the original, and the fact that it was a pure action game. Just like with Goldeneye and TimeSplitters, which were all done with the same general team. Whereas Crystal Dynamics make incredibly "modern" feeling games, which IMO embrace way too many bad contemporary trends. Lots of padding, gameplay that prioritizes being cinematic over being snappy, shallow stealth sections, bad modern writing ect. After the Avengers game I just don't trust them.
OG PD is my favorite game of all time. Other than the name Carrington displayed here, if someone showed me this blindly, i'd have no clue this is Perfect Dark related... not thrilled yet.

@@katmiller614 This looks like another IP... Unlike the previous 2 games (N64 + Xbox PD Zero) that were made by RareWare, this one is made by Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider). They're just using the name.
100% this. This looks nothing like Perfect Dark. For one, why does it look so clean? Where's the gritty atmosphere? And why are there parkour mechanics in the game? Game looks more like Hitman/ Mirrors Edge. As a massive original Perfect Dark fan, this looks very underwhelming. I'm not hype at all. Probably will pass on it, if this is how it's going to play.

Well, it doesn't exactly 'look' like mirrors edge as that was closer to cel shading.
Perfect Dark is hand drawn to an extent, but yet with more solid polygons and a better sense of realism, destructive environments, and more hitech sophisticated gadgets.
I get you with some of the free running aspects, but na Mirriors edge was linear and makes you dizzy, it's so one dimensional.
That's all it was at core
This perfect dark is multi dimensional in approach.
You transition into free running from first-person/ action view.
But it doesn't 'look' like mirrors edge.
Mirrors Edge wanted to be a futuristic Perfect Dark but it didn't score as highly.
That's why you shouldn't really compare legendary to average.
You can still compare Perfect Dark to Golden Eye, as that's where it derives and Perfect Dark was the defining point and first person- revolution in gaming that had matched the core aspects of Golden Eye but yet brought it forward.
Perfect Dark was the futuristic-Sci fi fantastical sequel, therefore virtually the greatest game of all times or at least amongst the top 5.
As it done it first in a futuristic sense.
Mirrors edge is average.
Perfect Dark is legendary by name and by nature.
This new rendition is based on the n64 version by concept, perspective, scope, and vision.
It doesn't come from Mirrors Edge ....Mirrors edge comes from Perfect Dark.
So no, it doesn't 'look' like Mirrors edge.

So you are literally completely wrong with your comments regarding Mirrors Edge. It does look like Mirrors Edge and this new Perfect Dark was clearly influenced by it.
The movements, the combat, alot of the scenes look straight out of Catalyst wich is a good thing. Mirrors Edge are both amazing games and its a good evolution to combine classic espionage prefect Dark gameplay, with Mirrors Edge fast and dynamic traversal.

Especially as a lot of the close ups on wall materials weren't particularly detailed. And there were low detail edges to the shadows in the distance.
@@grossindecency they used programmed movements to capture the gameplay that's why it looks like the game character has aimbot. It is actual gameplay but they used sort of a TAS if you have heard of it.

Perfect Dark was one of my favourite games from the N64 era, sick to see it getting a reboot (and one that, from this trailer at least, looks hella promising)
