What’s your pick for the best 4K UHD player during Black Friday season?
HC, does it make since to focus on a media player with a good DAC if you can’t stream Spotify, TIDAL, etc.? Am I missing something? Is there a way to download music to playback on the zappiti, Ziddo or Dune HD media players? I stopped buying CDs a long time ago. I’ve been playing Spotify for the past several years. Should I stream this my AVR (AVM70) and/or Apple TV?
What’s more important to you….movie watching or music? This player doesnt your big name streaming apps, however it does have some support for Roon and Spotify, but I havent tested that functionality.
If you want all the streaming apps this device might not be for you.
Nividia shield could run mkv files with 4k and 10bit and 4:4:4chroma with Dolby vision at 30fps movies?????
@moviesandgamestrailler4825 The 2017 Nvidia Shield cant do Dolby Vision. Which is the one I have
@@robo3412 The Zidoo UHD3000 or UHD5000 will give you the best of both worlds. You can download music files as well as play movie files as well. Each of these players have high-end Dacs for music playback. But these are both flagship players and are not cheap.
Good Luck.
Thank you man, you've made a really good comparison. Always nice to see a man of class who admires a good picture and sound quality. Cheers!
Thank you sir!
Great video! I’m just getting into NAS storage and ripping my content. I was using shield with Plex for a couple years for my uhd remux files. I was getting sick of frame drops. I now have the magnetar upd-800 and love how it can play iso files perfectly and the audio and video is great. I have my shield setup as a NAS so I can still use Plex if I want and can play the same files on my magnetar. Would you recommend a Zidoo over my current setup? Do you still prefer using your oppo? I like nice menus but smooth playback and the best AV is the most important to me. Any info would be great!!!
I would still recommend the Zidoo. Zidoo can do so much more than any blu ray player can. You’ll have a much better user experience with the Zidoo
I am using my Zidoo 1000 pro & its mind blowing in audio as well as in video content. For streaming I am using Fire stick Max.
Nice! I think Zidoo is superior to what’s out there right now for Media Players. Its amazing.
Unfortunately, I may be jumping back on Zidoo bandwagon since I just found out that Zappiti is going out of business at EOY. so I am debating between Z2000 Pro or Z2600. I don't know what the real difference between the two. I would also need to find out if they are rack mountable.
Thanks

Adding 2-cents on differences between Zappiti and Zidoo. I originally had a Ziddoo Z10-Pro but returned after purchasing a Zappiti NEO. The Zappiti does have a slow UI because it is cloud based as the Zidoo is local. Also the poster wall in Zidoo is not up to par compared with Zappiti's picture wall, Which rivals Kaleidescape picture wall. Another difference is movie organization is much easier in Zappiti than Zidoo. I also thought the PQ on Zappiti is better than on Zidoo.
Kaleidescape is a different animal altogether.
Good Luck.
PM
Yea its basically comes down to everyone’s preferences. The Zappiti is a great machine. I enjoy the UI much better on the Zidoo for me personally.
Awesome video - it’s great to see you testing the Zidoo - I’ve had quite a few media players over the years - I got my first Zidoo X9S back in 2018 then the Z9S and now the Z9X - I also use in my cinema room the Z1000pro which I love - The poster wall (HT4) has come a long way but in my opinion still room for improvement like the ability to pick up where you left off watching something on another player similar to what Plex can do
That Z1000 pro is nice 👌🏻 That will prob be my next player if I ever buy another. I want chapter thumbnails and the ability to create your own “favorite scenes” like the Kaleidescape can do. But loving my Z9X!
@@hatoraidcowboy I do like chapter thumbnails but it's not often I skip chapters - The Z1000pro has a nicer landing page (ZIUI_Cancer) in my opinion - that Ui can be installed on the Z9X which then makes it feel a bit more premium
Chapter thumbnails are a MUST for content creators and reviewers LOL How you get the UI?
@@hatoraidcowboy Strange I have just wrote this wondering if my link has been removed on how to install it - I can send you the .apk which is an easy install
Sure. Just shoot me an email. Thanks!
Hi, I'm undecided between Zappiti, Zidoo, Reavon and OPPO UDP-203. The main use is the reproduction of 4K movies in MKV or ISO, always in native resolution without compression. Audio-video quality is very important to me. Which one do you recommend for this? I play with a Sony 4K XW-5000 laser projector and Denon 4800H.
Thanks in advance for the answer.
Hello! I dont have any experience with Reavon, I’ve reached out to them and they wont send a demo unit. Bit Reavon is primarily a disc player.
I dk have experience with Zappiti and Zidoo. They are both great media players that will play ANYTHING….BUT Zappiti you have to go through a dealer and they are more expensive not to mention the UI is very outdated. I prefer Zidoo. You can buy on Amazon, they are cheaper, better UI and has a TON of functionality and customization.
AppleTV 4K with the Infuse App Pro from Firecore will do Atmos decoding on the unit and send it out as a mutltichannel LPCM 24Bit 48Khz is my understanding... Any receiver should be able to handle this without issue. I wish they would also do bitstream, but at least you are no longer in an island...🙂
So do the upfiring speakers work with atmos mkv with infuse pro on apple 4k tv then?
Yes, it annoys me too that Apple resamples everything to 48khz level FORCED, even if the sound quality is even better or more awesome and enjoyable to hear at 96/192/384khz levels from different sources, that crazy way of Apple is already quite a mental illness already in 2024. This way has been introduced more in the knee and apparently still involved in the apple tv destroying the sound quality.
I don't buy apple tv anymore, but I switch to competitors' products, because the arrogance is too great in the nature of audio playback practiced by Apple to forcefully reduce the sound quality.
I was a little surprised that the Panasonic UB820 or UB9000 4K players weren’t mentioned.
Yea unfortunately I havent experienced those players. But people seem to keep mentioning them so they must be pretty good. I need to see if I can get a review unit.
Thanks for you content, I have a question can I reproduce BDMV folders with the zidoo z9x??
Yes you can! I actually have a few on my server. Works great!
@@hatoraidcowboy awesome
Does the Zidoo use a wall wart/power brick? If it does it is written on it. They almost always do both 120 & 240 volts.
Its a wall wart. No power brick thank goodness.
I'm happy with my Panasonic dp-ub9000p1k dual volatage/regionfree player so far. It certainly is well built.
The UB9000 is supposed to be a stellar player and a worthy successor to Oppo players.
Hello, a question, but does the Panasonic read 4k MKV files?
@@ProfessorOtakuOfficial No Panasonic players don't stream all media types speaking from experience.
I'd love a HT piece of equipment that looks it belongs in a HT - not a happy meal prize -like the shield. I need it for just two things - Plex and Pluto - should be able to handle atmos, native hdmi 2.1 - full specs, DTX:X and voice e.g. play ironman from plex.
LOL @ Happy Meal prize 😂
Would you use the shield for streaming and zidoo for downloaded content?
Sure! I use my Apple TV 4K for my main streaming device but you could use the Shield for streaming too. I just like the Apple TV better. Just depends on your preference. I used the Shield for a few years before I got the Apple TV
I think the Dune HD pro one 8k plus is the best player on the market because it has the S928X media processor. I've got their 4k player as well which uses the Realtek RTD1619BPD media processor the same as the Zidoo and as a direct comparison the S928X has a lot more detail. Both processors are rock solid with 4K playback but the S928X is superior. I would recommend you do a comparison yourself. Combing the Dune HD pro one 8k plus with a capable NAS like a QNAP or Synology is the ultimate home cinema solution in my opinion.
I’ve reached out to Dune for a review unit but they havent responded. Thanks for your input.
Can you do a video on dune media player
If they’ll send me a review unit. I’ve reached out to them before but never got a response.
I have an LG C2 an I use Zidoo Z9X PRO for play Dovi.
I noticed that Dovi from netflix and Disney installedon tv is brighter than Dovi from HDMI 2.1 Zidoo.
Can you do a test? Or Can you explain me why?
Thanks
Unfortunately I dont have those answers or the ability to replicate that test
Which Will be the cheapest Zappiti or Zidoo product which can play 4k H.265 files with DTS-X and Dolby Atmos ? Need HDMI eARC. Storage not needed. How much more if I want 8K playback ?
Neither Zappiti or Zidoo support HDMI 2.1. Zidoo products are going to be much cheaper than Zappiti. But Everything else you want…H.265 with DTS:X and Dolby Atmos will play just fine on either Zidoo or Zappiti
What features do you get more from Zidoo than Zappiti? I saw your original Zappiti video, and you did not use all of the features. Good video!
Thank you! I only had the Zappiti for a short time so I didnt get to delve into ALL of the features, but I covered the more common ones.
Honestly they are both pretty much the same. You might get a little more processing more on the Zappiti, but the feature set is pretty much the same.
Yeah but let me say, Infuse can do the decoding of lossless audio truehd and DTS, in the same way the avr does. No Atmos metadata nor dts X unfortunately.
Yea I looked into Infuse years ago but the no atmos or dts:x was a hard pass for me
As you know, I have the Zappiti. Is there any reason I should have the Zidoo as well?
I’m really liking the Zidoo. Zappiti is great too, but honestly I’m loving the Zidoo more and more each day. There’s more options and customization and the UI is better. And they’re cheaper too. I’m not at all against buying a Zappiti, but I just like the Zidoo better.
@@hatoraidcowboy But can the Zappiti be used to stream content off the internet? I've always thought of it as a player of content I own in MKV....?
It works the same as Zappiti. I think Zappiti has a netflix app but I heard it isnt very good. I havent seen any streaming app support for Zidoo. But I would never use either or those for streaming since they’re designed for local content.
@@hatoraidcowboy So the NVidia is your choice for a streamer?
@@richmoore5080 The Shield is my choice for PLEX, Apple TV is my choice for streaming. But if Apple ever enables support for bitstream, its game over goodbye Nvidia Shield. At least for PLEX. Still love the Shield. But as it stands today, SHIELD is the superior device for PLEX and is a good streamer as well.
WIll the Zidoo work on 230volt 50hz?
Hmm I’m not sure, that’s beyond my testing knowledge or capabilities LOL
@@hatoraidcowboy I believe the z2600 and udp5000 would work on 240 volts per the specs on those units.
Does it do HDR tone mapping??
Which device?
@@hatoraidcowboy
Zepppiti
@@hatoraidcowboy zidoo and zippiti
@@salehkambijo1849 They wont do tone mapping
What about the Panasonic blu ray player? That one should be on the list.
Unfortunately I dont have that one and have never experienced it so I just gave my thoughts on the players I’ve had experience with. But thanks for chiming in! I’m sure there are other players including panasonic that will make people’s lists.
@@hatoraidcowboy got it. Yeah the Panasonic can dynamic tone map. I am thinking of getting one.
I’ve heard about that. That’s really great. I wonder how great it works compared to JVC’s dynamic tone mapping.
I see someone mentioned the Panasonic 4k UHD players, I have the UB420, and 820 in my home theater!
@@wendellwendellb339 How is the dynamic tone mapping?
Does zepppiti do HDR tone mapping??
I don’t believe it does. Not like the Panasonic UB9000. It does support Dolby Vision though.
@@hatoraidcowboy for 4k hdr am using stored USB files and played by Roku through usb port in roku.
Will i have better hdr if i did that with zeppiti??
@@salehkambijo1849 I noticed improvements in audio and video coming from my Nvidia Shield to the Zappiti and Zidoo. So I would say yes as those devices are vastly superior to Roku. It depends on your setup though
@@hatoraidcowboy with your Epson 5040 do u feel needs to tone mapping to the hdr contents?
What about dune hd?
I havent had the chance to review that one.
Can it play DTS X? Ai upscaling?
Which player you asking about?
@hatoraidcowboy not the Shield because it can do it all. I wonder about those others. I am searching for a new streaming device because the Shield is from 2019...
Samsung rolled out a firmware and since then my download speeds are way slower.
I have 4k movies that will buffer all the time now. Did work perfect before....
Hope you can help me out. Thanks!
Or Ill just have to wait for a new Shield in 2024..
@@Kwarkiemodo The Shield is the only device that has AI Upscaling.
@@hatoraidcowboy is that important with Plex? I read that it will do transcoding a lot.
Na its not important. Transcoding is different from upscaling.
Zidoo+HdFury+Sony projector. Enjoy )
Great combo! Which Zidoo player do you have and which Sony projector?
@@hatoraidcowboy zidoo z9x, sony vpl 285
@@MrGainfast 👏🏻 Must be a beautiful experience with that trio 😁
Roku Ultra 4K should at least be on the list
I have to disagree. The Roku has access to hundreds if not thousands of apps, but its not in the same league as the rest of these players. And if I’m being honest, the Apple TV really shouldnt be on this list with the others cause it cant do bitstream for local content
Even the Roku Ultra 4K? I understand the less expensive Roku's aren't in the same league, but the Ultra is much more powerful.@@hatoraidcowboy
@jamesgarrison7397 Yea….That’s just my opinion though.
Here is another Kaleidescape gotcha. If a movie is removed by the producer it is also removed from your local library even though you purchased it. Another red flag.
Yea that’s why I buy physical discs and rip to my own server.
@@hatoraidcowboy i'm like you, I have a plex server on a dedicated PC and several attached NAS devices along with Zappiti NEO and OPPO 203 Player. I had a Zidoo Z10-Pro but found it too difficult to organize movies and also the sound from the hard drive in the box was so noisy it interrupted the movie experience. So I ordered the Zappiti and when it came I put the same HDD in the zappiti that was in the Zidoo and no noise at all. I compared the two units and liked the Zappiti more. The zappiti came out with a lot of new features ie, movie sound track plays when you hover over a movie, animated movie posters and better picture wall. Not to mention better PQ then what I saw on the Zidoo unit I had. So I then returned the Zidoo. When I had Power Supply issues they replaced unit with a new unit and also gave me rack ears for free as this unit does not come with them. These items were sent to me from the President of Zappiti USA.
Thanks
PM
Really…The movie organization works fine for me. Occasionally I have to fix a few movie thumbnails but its usually spot on. I’ll agree with you the hard drive noise is extremely loud, but its also not in a case so that might help. I found the Zappiti to be just as loud even with the internal drive bay. I love my Zidoo. Its been my favorite new device in my theater system
@@hatoraidcowboy I am glad that you are enjoying your Zidoo. When I found out about it I stumbled on it from a post on Amazon and that is where I purchased it back in 2021. They came out with the newer products last year. I told my son about them and he may be purchasing one of them soon.
Good Luck and Enjoy.
Thanks for your view review it ws very informative.

Thank you for watching!
Kaleidescape doesn't do Dolby Vision.
Nope. 😩 That’s really my only gripe with it. With how much it costs for one that’s 100% unacceptable and I’d like to find an answer as to why it doesnt support DV.
@@hatoraidcowboy its easy they do not want to pay crazy royalties to Dolby.
You’re probably right. Still, at the price that Kaleidascape is paying, to ME that’s unacceptable.
