I really loved that he asked that question. He always struggled with depression and suicidal tendencies, all the way back to the first episode. And after learning that magic and Fillory was not the panacea for his problems, it was entirely honest for him to ask whether he nobly sacrificed himself for his friends, or whether he just used it opportunistically as an excuse to do what he was always too afraid to do in the past. And the answer was precious and moving beyond words.
The fact that Julia rediscovers her magic the way Q first discovered his with the card tricks, and the fact she says exactly what he said literally killed me
And the fact that no one wanted to say goodbye with their own words so Kady gave the spell- but… it also hurts knowing that the reason Kady conjured up that spell because she, herself cant say a few words for Q, so instead she said in the best way she know how, through a song :(

@@ishikawa1338 I was so disappointed with this episode. What was the point of the build up for the big bad this year, or the Library vs the Hedge witches, or Everett wanting to be a god? It was over in the first few minutes of the episode. It was such sloppy writing. The only positive of this episode was the amazing acting by the actors.

If the character is well and truly gone, then I can't imagine a better send off to a beloved character than this. I have never seen a show get it so right when saying goodbye to a character. My hope is that, like with Penny, Q can come back in some other way, but if he doesn't, I will be very happy with the way it ended for him. I'll say this, though, as someone who was, at one point, very suicidal, I absolutely appreciate and understand his question to Penny. I have to ask myself all the time, am I doing this thing because I want to, or because somewhere deep inside I am still trying to destroy myself. Beautifully done!
I have to agree whole heartedly to your comment! It really was so well done and I've never felt so satisfied with the way a character is sent-off. I don't remember ever seeing a show that got this right in such a heartfelt and impactful way as it is here. Like you, I was very suicidal just a few years ago and that question just hit me like a ton of bricks. "Did I do something brave to save my friends? Or did I finally find a way to kill myself?" - it was a genius of a line that really encompasses what someone like Q would think. Hector, I don't think people like us give enough credit to our own bravery/courage.
when i first saw the ep i broke down. I don't know how i feel about the show without Quentin but It was a fitting end for the character. It just said he couldn't live more, love more and do more magic. Im glad he was able to share a long happy loving life with Eliot
Quentin was such a symbol to all of us who have tried to escape the world through magical books and fantastic stories. He represented those of us who felt as if we “didn’t fit” in this world but held on for something better. I lived my dream through watching Q live his. I’m heartbroken, but comforted knowing everyone else is just as sad. Thanks for everything, Q.
I cried during last years episode "A Life In A Day" this was 10 times more painful. Saying good bye to the awkward hero we have all been rooting for the last 4 years.
The books are beautiful, and this show is just so perfect. The ending in The Magician's Land made me weep for joy. This...this breaks my heart. But it is just *so* well done!

Penny's line, "It's ok, I've met you" is one of my favorite lines on the show. Funny but moving, showing how much Penny had grown but also that they were in fact, friends.
All the songs throughout the show were fun and I enjoyed them, but overall didn't think they were necessary. But this one right here. This scene. This song. The remake of this song for this scene.... it's one of the best moments I've seen in TV history.

I actually thought the ending was for Q was decent. I mean he saved Eliot, he found closure with Alice, and most importantly he realized that people loved and needed him and that he wasn't alone. Glad he is in peace.

As a person who has suicidal issues. When Q says that he doesn't know if he died to save the others, or if he finally found a way to kill himself ... This scene touched me a lot and I cried even after the episode was over.

Bravo. a movie, a book, a song , a TV shows does'nt need to make us feel good, or secure, or satisfied. It has to make us FEEL. Here's it's incommensurable sadness. Well, Bravo. "Just one last look". I'm currently rewatching the Magicians. I just finished this episode, and this is truly the only scene in history that can make me sob. I've seen so many TV and movie deaths over the years, but this was just tears me up every time. You know a show is truly magical when it feels like you lost a friend when a character dies. This scene is so beautifully done, and major respect for the writers/actors for all the little nuances they threw in to make this one of the best memorial scenes ever. Kady doing the same spell that Q did for Under Pressure... the look Q gave when Eliot appears (seriously feels so genuine, especially knowing the unfinished business they had with each other), Alice and Eliot holding hands as the two great loves of Q's life, the sincerity of OG Penny with Q, Julia rediscovering her magic the same way Q did.... And I have never been able to hear "Take On Me" since this episode aired without picturing this scene. Even writing this, it makes me so sad that the Magician's ended, as I feel this was one of the best cast and character development in all the shows I've watched.
It made me tear up, too. I didn't pay much attention to the show until the episode when they performed Under Pressure. I thought the show was fun up until then, but I didn't really feel any emotional connection. Then I realized I was starting to care about the characters, so I started over and watched all the episodes again and enjoyed everything much more. This was really touching.
I've never seen this show and I don't even know what it is about but my tumblr friend keeps posting about this death so I came to check it out. And wow, this scene almost made me cry without much of a context.
For a show that kept killing and bringing back characters, this was the perfect arc end for Q. He tried 4 year to be a hero, to be something. He didn't get to rule Fillory, he didn't kill the beast, he killed Ember and magic disappeared. But THIS...this was his moment. And even when he doubted the meaning of his sacrifice, he got to watch the mourning of his friends, some of them who he felt supperior. This is an awesome (and teary) send off
1:11 q’s face… knowing that he did this to save all his friends he’s relieved, but seeing eliot safe and alive after this entire season. he can rest now. :’(

One of the only reasons my boyfriend messaged me after months of a dead conversation on OKC was because we realized we were both in the same small magicians fan group in 2016 and had been for years. We've watched the last 3 seasons together and this had us both in tears and we are both still SHOOK. As sad as we are we believe the writers did it justice and truly embodied the themes of the book in a new and surprising twist. Obsessed with the finale
Such a moving scene, so well done, both for the characters grief and the actors saying goodbye to Jason Ralph as well. Love that Quentin started laughing and apologising for laughing at Penny's death, Penny understood the odd reactions that grief can bring up.

As someone who also struggled with finding out how I fit in this universe and how important I am in it is difficult, but when I found this show with someone who* had the same kind of feelings and to be the main character it really made me feel like there's a place for me, once they killed Q and he left the show, those feelings came back because he was the one I connected to the most and with him gone after all the arcs we as fans went through with him just brings those feelings back.. Not sure about you all, but I don't know if I can look at the show the same way again without the character I connected to the most not being there anymore.
I've never cried watching anything - not film, or TV show, or stage production - and the minute Eliot arrived and started singing I became an ugly crying mess... He never got to see Q after he realised he loved him and wanted to give their relationship a go...and the peach proved that to Q and I just couldn't cope...they deserved so much more time (a lifetime wasn't long enough!!) I also loved that Alice and El supported each other in through this... I'm still and ugly crying mess... On a lighter note - beautiful voices, as per, and beautiful (if too effective) song choice!!

As soon as Elliot appeared and then it switched to Q's face that broke me. Then when Elliot sings the line "Shying away" that ruined me. So thanks for that!! Beautiful episode and a wonderful send off for Q!
I just feel like we were robbed of something that could have been absolutely amazing. Imagine Eliot and Quentin learning to navigate being in an amazing relationship along with everything else they usually face.

Kady doing the same spell that Q did for Under Pressure... the look Q gave when Eliot appears (seriously feels so genuine, especially knowing the unfinished business they had with each other), Alice and Eliot holding hands as the two great loves of Q's life, the sincerity of OG Penny with Q, Julia rediscovering her magic the same way Q did.... And I have never been able to hear "Take On Me" since this episode aired without picturing this scene. Even writing this, it makes me so sad that the Magician's ended, as I feel this was one of the best cast and character development in all the shows I've watched.
It made me tear up, too. I didn't pay much attention to the show until the episode when they performed Under Pressure. I thought the show was fun up until then, but I didn't really feel any emotional connection. Then I realized I was starting to care about the characters, so I started over and watched all the episodes again and enjoyed everything much more. This was really touching.
Ive never cried for 10 straight minutes watching a tv show before till this episode

I've never seen this show and I don't even know what it is about but my tumblr friend keeps posting about this death so I came to check it out. And wow, this scene almost made me cry without much of a context.
This scene and this version of this song will live forever in my heart.
For a show that kept killing and bringing back characters, this was the perfect arc end for Q. He tried 4 year to be a hero, to be something. He didn't get to rule Fillory, he didn't kill the beast, he killed Ember and magic disappeared. But THIS...this was his moment. And even when he doubted the meaning of his sacrifice, he got to watch the mourning of his friends, some of them who he felt supperior.

I absolutely Love all the Magicians seasons but cried my eyes out during Q's Death and the song Take on Me! Everytime I play that song I start crying, Beautifully Done Sera Gamble!!
One of the only reasons my boyfriend messaged me after months of a dead conversation on OKC was because we realized we were both in the same small magicians fan group in 2016 and had been for years.
We've watched the last 3 seasons together and this had us both in tears and we are both still SHOOK.
As sad as we are we believe the writers did it justice and truly embodied the themes of the book in a new and surprising twist. Obsessed with the finale

Love that Quentin started laughing and apologising for laughing at Penny's death, Penny understood the odd reactions that grief can bring up.
I don't care what age I make it to, When I go, I hope those who love me will get together and do something like this.

I think that when each one of these characters finally passes will get to know how important this moment was for Q and it will bring them joy.

Its so heart breaking when we get a flash back of margo putting the crown on Q i remember it like it was yesterday... the magicians has been through so much and i cant believe that Q is gone im so sad....😞
As someone who also struggled with finding out how I fit in this universe and how important I am in it is difficult, but when I found this show with someone who* had the same kind of feelings and to be the main character it really made me feel like there's a place for me, once they killed Q and he left the show, those feelings came back because he was the one I connected to the most and with him gone after all the arcs we as fans went through with him just brings those feelings back.. Not sure about you all, but I don't know if I can look at the show the same way again without the character I connected to the most not being there anymore.
I've never cried watching anything - not film, or TV show, or stage production - and the minute Eliot arrived and started singing I became an ugly crying mess...
He never got to see Q after he realised he loved him and wanted to give their relationship a go...and the peach proved that to Q and I just couldn't cope...they deserved so much more time (a lifetime wasn't long enough!!)
I also loved that Alice and El supported each other in through this...
I'm still and ugly crying mess...

I love that Cade uses the same tutting gestures that Quentin used in the Under Pressure episode. That's continuity.
As soon as Elliot appeared and then it switched to Q's face that broke me. Then when Elliot sings the line "Shying away" that ruined me. So thanks for that!!

I just feel like we were robbed of something that could have been absolutely amazing. Imagine Eliot and Quentin learning to navigate being in an amazing relationship along with everything else they usually face.
