The actors didnt know qs death was final. They shot a dummy scene that made it possible for Quentin to come back. The actors didnt know until Monday that the death was real. So when this was filmed, they thought it was a temporary death

@@funsizepotato Jason knew, Jason and the writers have known since early season 3, but yeah, all of the rest of the cast were in the dark until filming the finale.
I will say that I'm glad, at least in one timeline, they were able to actualize that love and enjoy it for a full lifetime. For me, it was real and it counts.
In my head seeing Arjun Gupta in Penny 40’s costume talk about Penny 23 is wrong because they are 2 separate people to me now even though I know it’s the same actor. I am still crying over this episode.

I'm not happy with Quentin's death however the finale was a beautiful episode. The look of Quentin when Elliot arrived at the wake. Amazing acting gave me chills.

It hurts when Julia was crying for her best friend and you can feel that she is still in denial, and her subtle shaking was also heartbreaking and her face was just [lost] then you also get the peach scene with Elliot which was the cherry on top. Absolutely wrecked me 🤧😫
I haven't cried this much since I saw "Terms Of Endearment" !! I never thought in a million years it would be Quentin. 😭

I actually legit started crying when Eliot threw the peach into the fire. And when he was holding hands with Alice both devastated. And just when Eliot was freed, they didn’t even meet again properly. And now Q is gone forever. I’m just so devastated.

At least he was able to enjoy the most perfect cake made by the old gods.
And to think none of the cast members but Jason actually realized that Quentin was really dead, and staying dead, when they filmed this. I'm heartbroken.

I saw this on Hulu yesterday. I was already crying when Quinten died and pulled me self together. The second they started singing crying all over again. Like gross sobbing mess.
I want a t-shirt that says "peaches and plums, m'f*cker".
"Take on me" was beautifully done by the cast! It was so emotional! You could feel their pain, their sentiment, their remembrance of such a wonderful character! It was so much better than this season's actual musical episode which was all over the place.
Forgive me for disagreeing. All I could think of once they started that song was that once you're hit with grief, you choke, you want to scream and cry, not sing. Months after the loss, at the acceptance stage of mourning, sure, but I'd rather it wasn't a full blown number.
To be fair, I have very mixed feelings about this finale.
I felt like bawling like a baby and just tears escaped my eyes... Then that song began... And all dams broke down...
@@mysdannie the grief was heavy in that song... I know it's unusual to break into a song just after the person's death, but their emotions became more apparent through the song. Imo.

Sorry if it read differently, I probably sound very clipped and short, but I do feel shaken and bewildered at how much it hit me, someone who's never been a big fan of Q (as in, I love him, but know he's not my favorite of the show, I know that I will keep watching and that I am craving those angsty-sweet grieving scenes of s5)...
I feel raw, I was feeling raw and heartbroken watching the scene and them erupting into song broke me out of the moment. It broke immersion, for me, when before I was on the verge of tears (a big feat!).

shah shah YES! I rewound this and watched it again because of how powerful that moment was, the strength of all those who practice magic working together.
It gave me such strong Sense8 and The OA vibes. If you love cooperation in the realm outside ordinary, do consider watching those shows!

That look on Q's face when he sees Elliot has me bursting into tears again, just like I did when I watched the show. That love being acknowledged and lost is so heart wrenching.

Same here. Season 1 got me back into reading books again. Read 100s since. I honestly thought they were going to kill Dean Fogg (though I really like him too) but not Q? I was so wrecked.

I wasn't expecting that at all. When he died I was like "bulls@&t". But when they were singing I started crying so hard. When Eliot pulled the peach out of his pocket *I FREAKING LOST IT.* 😭💔🍑

This broke my heart cause I was so looking forward to Queliot; even if they didn't get together at the end of this season, I was looking forward to their reunion and just them talking about it. It's not in Quentin's character to fight death the way that Penny 40 did. Now if someone gave him that pass that Penny 40 was going after he wouldn't refuse it, but he wouldn't go after it himself after sacrificing himself to save everyone. It's just not in his character. Even in the books it wasn't in his character so it wouldn't make sense. Alice going after him does, but not him trying to come back. He's the kind of person that would just accept it. And he did.

If Q is really dead, I have watched my last episode of the Magicians. He was the heart and soul of the show just like Starbuck or Jon Snow. If you bring him back, I will come back. If not, it was a fun 4 seasons until he died and they ruined the show. Why would anyone watch this show anymore without Q?

I’m with you, they could of tied it up neatly with a few small tweaks , I’m very worried the show is going downhill, seasons 1-3 were mostly perfect besides poppy. Season 4 is when I started getting worried, then this happened... hopefully I’m wrong.

I loved the finale, but upon further reflection I'm not sure how I feel about the season as a whole. Why take away so much of Julia's agency? Why make Margo's story all about Josh? Why tease Queliot if they knew it was never gonna happen?
All great questions. I am so confused.
I feel like Margo’s story was more about her maturing and realizing that she can still be herself even if she’s with someone. She’s never let anyone come in between her and Eliot and I feel like in this season she was realizing that there’s room for more and that she can be herself and still be best friends with Eliot and be with someone.
I basically weeped for the entire last 15 minutes of the episode. Just amazingly done.
I literally just finished watching and I have never cried like I am now at a TV show. If you knew me you would think, surely you cry all the time at TV shows and character deaths this can't be the worst. I just don't know how to process this. I am devastated.

Watching Qs death and funeral just gave me constant chills, the feeling of heartbreak and sadness engulfed me. And Alice.... the intensity of her pain was so real.

I cant believe they pulled that off, and the camp fire scenes, so tear jerking. And quentin. With singing. Well done.

Getting rid of the Character that is the quintessential cornerstone of the whole cast and show is just bad. Quentin was everyone. He helped those of us who are just everyday somebody's feel like we could be magical in our own mundane way. He balanced out the extremes of all your characters. Now we just have a lot of loud flavors with no cohesion.

I think they can write it well without him. Q was everything in the books but he's not nearly as much of the focus in the shows. I think the rest of the cast will do fine without him. I'm sure season 5 will be interesting, and I hope you give it another shot next year.

I knew it wasn't normal that Q & Alice were going back together, one of them had to die, and Alice already did, so, yeah, it left only one option ....
But why though, killing the main character, I still can't accept that, I'm on grief :'(
You guys really got me with this one. Not just the death itself, but the interview with 40 afterwards. Q finally got the whole package. Friends he loves, magic itself, love with Alice, a purpose in life...And yet, the first thing he fears is that his demons finally caught up with him. Such a powerful expression of depression and how it can affect anyone, even those who have no rational reason to feel negative about life. I always found Magicians to be a fun, campy series which I halfheartedly watched, but it matured so much this season and peaked this finale. Best and most emotional finale, ever. You guys took it next level and hit me where it hurts.
I am not mad they killed Q off, if anything it makes the whole thing much more realistic. Of course it's sad, of course I wanted to see Q and Eliot together, or see if he could fix his relationship with Alice, but that's how life works. Sometimes you don't get another day. They are magicians who go on dangerous quests, fight gods, monsters etc etc, at some point someone would die. And I really hope, he doesn't come back next season, so that they can deal with their grief as a topic.

Ok WHAT. Not sure how I felt about this season. It was good but just like SO MUCH going on. Why did they kill off Q, and why did they even hint at him being with Elliot if they knew he was going to die. I liked Q and Alice together but not after they forced them back together in the last three episodes , non of it made sense!! I feel like everything was just kinda... anticlimactic. IT WAS GOOD but LIKE. It didn't leave me satisfied like the other seasons.

@@fortlan3628 You clearly haven't read the books. Q never dies in them. There's a lot that was added and changed for the show honestly. Some for the better and some for the worse. The Library isn't nearly as prevalent in the books either.

Wait so is Julia still a god or human? Quentin kicking it gave me the feels like never before. Pure genius... this show is pure genius.
So Julia is now mortal and only human thanks to the decision Penny 23 made for her but at the end of the the episode following the wake for Quentin we see Julia finally use magic again due to the pain of losing Quentin so I'm curious to what extent her abilities and strength is because Quentin has been her rock through everything and she just lost that so it may have an effect on what she taps into as well.

The books were phenomenal. I started the show before the books because I saw an ad on youtube and I love fantasy. The show is pretty different but still so good.

This episode was such a good finale with the way Penny wrapped everything up for Quentin, I would not have been mad if The Magicians finished at season 4. Obviously I'd be really sad if they weren't coming back for season 5, but the only open question was what happened in Fillory and they could easily resolve that within a spin-off.

Well, I must say... the show had a slow start, I felt it struggled a bit in seasons 1 and 2. But then, gradually, throughout seasons 3 and 4 it got better and better, and this is not something we see very often. And the ending of the season 4... well, this was some A-level stuff guys. You did it so well.

This is the only show in a long history of tv binging I've just craved more and more. I've never rewatched a series as many times as i have the Magicians and it's just not enough. I'm legitimately heartbroken that Quentin's storyline is over, I was so hoping there would be a stronger parallel for his and Alice's ending with the books. But i also don't think I'd have felt the depth of emotion i have for the tv show as i have for the tragedy of it all.

i do't usually get emotional watching shows or films but the take on me bone fire scene brought me to tears and also the part where q didn't know if he died a hero's death or just finally comited suicide really touched me for reasons i don't really like to talk about but it is probably clear ..

The way I remember this episode, Q flipped the bottle through without using magic, saved the day, and the show ended with the gang back in class at Breakbills with Julia having a spark of magic that she will nurture back to full strength. WOW, thanks SCIFI for a great show. I am sorry it ended after 4 seasons, but GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe do a spin-off of the show with some of the side characters.
@@katznratz Yep, but just like Season 3 was bad and season 4 was horrible and caused a 35% drop in viewers, not including me, season 5 will be even worse and ratings will plummet and I certainly won't watch it after Q was KILLED by SYFY for ratings when he does not die in the books.
i don't care if y'all have to sell your souls to the devil you better bring quentin back, he is so important to the story and the fans and this just isn't fair or okay.
He is never coming back. His story has ended. Now he is finally getting his well deserved rest.

I never cried like I did during this episode. I tried to hold it in but couldn't control my self. The singing and all the mementos that they kept and tossed into the fire. So sad. And penny 40 was the last one to talk to him. Fantastic.
48 years old, cried like a little girl. Twice, including the last bit with Julia.
I've been crying for like three hours but I do have two theories about the Dark King:
1. Jason will be back only playing a completely different character and that's why they keep saying he's no longer a series regular, which is just saying he is not part of the main cast that does not mean he can't become recurring or a special guest star, and in all the interviews they are very clear they Q died and putting emphasis on it in a way that makes me wonder if they are implying that while Q is dead it's not the last time we will see Quentin's face. So it's very possible he is playing this new role and they will be exploring everyone's grief which would be dialed to like 10 as the bad guy looks just like the person they are grieving.
2. Its Quentin's son we know time works differently in Fillory and when we last saw him he was leaving to go do something and that's all we got. Q having a child has always been a huge plot point for me that's only been addressed in passing once or twice but its kinda a big deal. This would be an interesting way to bring him into the show and it could be what the writers mean when they say it will be very hard for Eliot next season. Eliot would never kill or want to hurt Quentin's son or their son you could say as he did help raise him, no matter how evil Eliot would see it as his duty to help/save his son after what Quentin just did to save him.
Those to me are the best story angles to take as it keeps Qs presence in the show without now actually having him there anymore.
Tho I feel it should be noted the Dark King could be female as we saw with High King Margo/Fen “King” is just the highest ranking title and isn’t gendered in Fillory anymore.
