Whats sadder is that Midna implies that she loves link.
      “Link I- see you later”
She also says see you later when her and link both know, that’s a complete lie. She destroyed tue mirror to stop any incidents like that from ever happening again. At the cost of breaking the connection of the Twilight Realm and Hyrule. So we never got to see Lidna.
The mirror is also a great representation of our hearts. Showing the bond and love between link and midna. But when midna leaves forever, the mirror fittingly shatter because of her tear. Just like our hearts

The secret ending for botw is more emotional in the Japanese version. In the Japanese version of botw links adventure log is more of a journal or diary showing more emotion from him. Once you finish the main quest of collecting links memories, in his adventure logs he states "I want to see the princesses smile again, with these eyes of my own." Which Link sees at the secret ending.

Midna’s farewell is impactful but I also think the ending of Twilight Princess is elevated even further by getting to see where everyone is at in the credits scenes, particularly the fact that the Ordon kids are finally returned home to their parents, escorted by our boy Colin who’s geared up with a sword and shield showing how he really learned the meaning of courage from Link. I have long believed that Twilight Princess is the most cinematic Zelda game. Other titles may have more cutscenes or prettier graphics, but only Twilight Princess was able to combine the dialogue, the music, and even the editing at times to make Midna a fully-fleshed out character that you come to care about. And of course that is also what makes the ending so emotional. I don't think you can go wrong with Twilight Princess or Link's Awakening at number 1, but Twilight Princess is my personal choice.

When Light Dragon comes to aid Link in the final battle, I’d asked myself a question during the 3rd phase: “Did she come back and maybe Draconification hasn’t removed everything that is Zelda?” I would strongly believed it is her love for her knight is what drove her dragon instinct/consciousness in saving Link from falling and aiding him against the Demon Dragoon. And we all seen that when her powers is activated when the one she loves is threaten in Breath of the Wild’s final memory.

Something I love about Zelda games as I get older is how so many of them have bittersweet endings. The stories always end on the right side and are happy ones, but it never lets you forget the world has changed as a result, as have you, and that means you will often have lost something in the process. I find this very relatable as I go through life.

    • @matthewlynch6658

Zelda is never a reincarnation if we're following Demise's Curse from SS (common misconception tho). He calls out 'the blood of the goddess and the spirit of the hero' specifically. That means that there could be a future Zelda post-TotK if the one in-game was still a dragon, they would just need to be someone of royal blood (who would, by pure coincidence, be called Zelda).

It’s odd because as I watched your list unfold I couldn’t remember what games were left after TP, but LA was the most impactful for me not only for its ending but as a whole. Link's Awakening for me is the most rogue and just pure "art" Zelda has ever tried to be. In the way that it is just pure passion and emotion fueling the gameplay and story. It probably has something to do with the development of it starting out as a passion project and experiment by Koizumi and the Link to the Past team. Koizumi wanted to be a film director initially, Tezuka cites Twin Peaks as an influence in the game, that is not the kind of story you usually see in a Nintendo game, or a video game, period.

1 thing important to note about Skyward Swords ending. Link and Zelda survey the surface from atop the giant Goddess statue, the completed Triforce floating behind them...and they contemplate staying together on the surface. This will lead into 3 major events happening.
    1. The surface will be repopulated with humans directly from Zelda and Links genes
    2. The Royal family will be created from this union.
    3. People will go after the Triforce which is out in the open and the light spirits will banish them to the twilight realm. The backstory of Twilight Princess!
For these reasons, even beyond Fi's(PHAI in japanese) farewell, SS's ending is my favorite. It sets up so much.

I wholeheartedly disagree with Tears of the Kingdom.
The ending undermines the only emotionally impactful scene in the game. We were told there is no bringing Zelda back, and she made the ultimate sacrifice to restore the Master Sword. In the end, we find out Sonia and Rauru can just magically channel their power to undragonify Zelda. I would be more okay with it if there was an epilogue that handled changing Zelda back into a human or if it was alluded that someone could be brought back after swallowing a secret stone, but as-is, it feels like a cheap way to make it a happy ending.
It also bugs me that Link doesn't even help Zelda up in the ending. It gets to a point where Link is no longer acting stoic, and he's more acting cold and distant. Kratos is stoic and he still hugs Atreus. There are numerous scenes in God of War 2018 and Ragnorok that demonstrate how much Kratos cares about Atreus. Link on the other hand finds out that Zelda isn't actually gone forever and shows no emotion. He didn't even react to finding out Zelda was a dragon. I hate this incarnation of Link and want the BotW era of Zelda to be over.
I also don't like the ending because it represents what is wrong with ToTK as a whole: it is the most play-it-safe Zelda game in the series.

      @Barquevious_Jackson Před 3 měsíci +1

@@d3va383 How was it not undercut? What parts were good?
You're entitled to your opinion but you should be able to coherently express (at least) a reason for it or forfeit any pretense that it has any bearing on reality.
They undercut Zelda's sacrifice because despite setting up the cost of the turning into a dragon (which to be fair: was interesting, dramatic, and said a lot about her character) no such mechanism was ever even hinted at to turn her back- quiet the contrary in fact, it is explicitly stated that there is no way back, that's what made it so dramatic!
To simply undo that, let alone without explanation in such a way as to erase any consequences is baffling. It means that there was no cost, the sacrifice didn't actually mean anything beyond what Zelda assumed it meant with her incorrect information.
Sure, Zelda would have done it even if there really wasn't a way back but there is, so Mineru was just wrong and we thought about it for no reason.
And what for? Why make Mineru a liar on top of the worst sage in the game? So we can get the screen cap of Zelda smiling for the ending!
Why worry about the consequences of our actions or suffer a moment in sacrifice to a greater cause? These things don't matter! A furry ghost will magic you back to your old self and you will not have aged so much as a day or suffered a single ill effect (except for link repeatedly hitting you with a sword for scales).
It's cheap, it's just like Ganondorf, all surface level with nothing deeper or even coherent going on under the surface.
Sure it feels nice but is it actually? Do you like it for a meaningful reason or do you like it because it's a pretty scene and Zelda looks nice in the scene?

And in all that time what did he do for the Gerudo? Move them to Hyrule Castle? Give them more resources (food, shelter, etc) to help with the deadly winds of the desert? No. He did nothing for them because he didn’t give a damn about them. The “coveted winds of Hyrule” bit is a poor attempt to justify his horrible actions.

To me, the world disappearing in LA is very similar to waking up from a dream you really don’t want to wake up from. Link and the Wind fish were dream sharing after Link fell into a coma and the only way he could wake up from his coma was to wake up the wind fish, which caused the dream and everything in it to vanish like a literal dream does….except he was also dream sharing with a seagull who became Marin in his dreams. A whole society doesn’t disappear when Link wakes up, it is the dream world where none of the characters are real he wakes up from.

I think what gets to me about totk’s ending is that, as you point out, zelda’s transformation into a dragon is meaningless. They really insist on dragonification being irreversible, but in the end, rauru and Sonia just turn her back as she was without trying? It feels so insulting, especially since (maybe that’s just the French version) Impa implies something HAS to be done to get her back to normal. If her turning back was something that could be done (and have two endings, the sad one where she remains a dragon and the one you have to work for, where she at least get sentience back or w/ever), I think I would have felt better about it. Hell, if zelda had hanged at all/if there WERE some traces of her dragon form left, I would have been content. Again, it’s just so frustrating the game INSISTS, TO YOUR FACE, that is zelda does this massive sacrifice, there’s no going back, only for the game to say « lmao dw it’s fine in the end ». And that’s without going how I feel they could have left Link without his old arm. I have a lot of beef with TOTK but especially how it feels like nothing matters.

That being a Zelda game where you play as a reincarnated Ganondorf secreted away by the Gerudo as Hyrule's last hope because PLOT TWIST, the Kingdom is ruled by the all powerfu magical evil empress Zelda and her Darth Vader esq loyal black knight Link. Like Avatar the Last Airbender meets Star Wars the original trilogy.

Anyone who says that Zelda's transformation back into a Hylian from being the Light Dragon undermines her sacrifice doesn't know what they're talking about. Deus ex Machina or not, the fact is Zelda made her choice with the explicit expectation that it would be irreversible. As far as she knew, she was effectively killing herself for the sake of her kingdom.

Wind Wakers ending is an interesting one when you take into account the scene with Zelda sleeping. Ganondorfs perspective is incredibly selfish I think the ending shows how self centered Ganondorf is. It's not just that coveting a golden past is self destructive but that every current moment is someones golden era. Tetra loves the great sea while ganondorf interprets the dream negatively saying the gods destroyed them. I think you're meant to pity Ganondorf more than anything he only cares about what he wants and what he values only talking about how he viewed the desert while his people viewed it as their home. He's not wrong for it people want what they want and wanting to not be in a desert isn't unreasonable but his talk about the gods destroying hyrule when he's the cause in the first place. He got so powerful trying to take Hyrule by force that there were no other option. He's not misunderstood he's a bad dude who doesn't have noble ambitions. He reflects but in the end he takes the wrong thing from his actions. He's selfish to the bitter end.
The king has the proper perspective regretting his time but realizing that this is someone elses new beginning that he shouldn't steward in any way though the burial at sea seems to be a decision based on guilt so he's not an absolutely perfect character. Seeing him fade as they get swept up is some depressing ass imagery.
For the kiddy Zelda game the writing is some complex stuff once you really pick it apart. The moment you dive into the frozen in time Hyrule the depressing themes really show themselves.

So um...regarding Navi leaving at the end of Ocarina of Time. Notice anything? She's leaving a trail of sparkles behind her. She's not the only fairy to do that in Ocarina of Time. Y'know what other fairies do that? The pink healing fairies. Y'know when they do that? After they've healed Link. After they've served their purpose, in the seconds leading up to when they disappear. Y'know what can be said about Navi at the end of Ocarina of Time? That she's _served her purpose._ That's right, she flies off to die.
Unless you're in the camp of believers that the Great Fairy in Twilight Princess, with the Ocarina of Time-style fairy wings and the Navi's Aura-blue hair is Navi having been granted the privilege of ascending to a higher order of being rather than ceasing to exist. Either way though, she couldn't stay with Link.

I believe these are your true feelings but it feels like a list to piss the maximum amount of people off. Botw being second to last and totk being middle of the pack with ocarina of time (those two being next to each other is a personal slight to me) with wind waker and twilight princess being in the front.
I don't like the weird obsession new fans seem to have with Zelink it's kinda insane how thirsty for this pairing people are but I really love the spirit tracks ending it's adorable and earned. I love their duet with the pan flute and Zeldas singing to seal not Ganon.
The final area in skyward sword is literally the sacred realm demise corrupts as the battle goes on. The joke was good though.
