I still think the weirdest character in the Zelda series by far is the door butler from Wind Waker. I mean, is he a butler, is he a door? What kind of unholy magic does a random school teacher have to own a sentient talking door to her private cabana?
We need @Zeltik to make a deep dive lore video on this ASAP because you are so right
Lmao true wtf
the door butler is too powerful a character...
I like to think she’s super evil and dark and just hiding it with her sweet schoolteacher routine
@@Catten_whisperer explains the maze of redeads under her home 😨
Fun fact, all of the residents of Skyloft are named after birds, with the noted exceptions of Link, Zelda, and Batreaux! And Groose is actually named after two birds in one! The grouse and the goose.
At least batreaux is still named after a flying animal
@jacksonhendricks3063 makes sense that his name is slightly different, he was a demon for a time
Weirdest in OoT is ABSOLUTELY the guard in Zelda’s grotto as a youth… when you pass by the guards, before you talk to her, you can shoot your slingshot at an open window… and how does this guy respond?!? BY TRYING TO BLOW UP A CHILD with a BOMB… like wtf.
For me the weirdest NPC in OoT is the carpenters reject son. As a kid, he sits under the tree in Kakariko Village and talks about how everyone is disgusting. When you’re an adult, he’s fled off to the Lost Woods. You have to give him a special Cucco or something for the Bigoron trading quest and he says that you must be a good person cause you raised a chicken. Then when you see him again he’s ominously disappeared and one of the Kokiri forest characters have taken his place and talks about how people who wander in the woods too long turn into stalchildren. His NPC model is reused in Majora’s Mask as the chicken loving recluse that just wants to see his chickens grow up before the end of the world. You help him using the bunny hood mask.
Nah, he's the most relatable character, he's not weird, he's just misunderstood
"special chicken"
"raised a chicken"
Are you paying attention to the text!? That's his chicken, and you're a good guy because it didn't get angry in your hands.
@@David2073 Haha I didn’t remember the exact circumstances regarding the chicken in the side quest and was too lazy to look it up. You’re right though :)
Also you get the bunny hood from him, you use the Bremen mask to lead the chickens into growing up so his dying wish is fulfilled
It's Guru-Guru that gives the Bremen mask. You OBTAIN the Bunny Hood with his quest in MM.
Also, it's into a Stalfos an adult turns into.
For ocarina of time, I would’ve chosen the poe collector as the weirdest character. He has one eye (that we can see), he’s wearing what looks like royal clothing, and will pay money if you give him the souls of the dead. The man’s a mystery
He also tells Link that he would "run a different type of business if he was a handsome young man too"...Like, uh, prostitution??
He’s the kid in the graveyard grown up
24:56 I think you misinterpreted her sprite, I believe that the white pixels are her glasses, and that her eyes are actually the brown pixels above them, awesome video regardless of course !
I was thinking that too, I honestly can’t even see them as eyes
5:01 I remember Link's Awakening having a few 4th wall breaks as well, when you get the Yoshi Doll, it says he's "been appearing in lots of games lately", the chuchu also has some peculiar lines when transformed, such as "it can display millions of polygons!". Majora's Mask also has Link look directly at the camera when Tatl asks to go with him. Not to mention every time someone mentions a button and says "don't ask me what the START button is, I'm just a kid" or something like that lol. I'm sure there a few others but that's just what comes to mind lol
Good point. Yeah, there are actually a lot more 4th wall breaks in the series than I originally thought haha
@@OffbeatDrill2:36 Here is a time stamp for the GREATEST Zelda game OF ALL TIME!!!
@@OffbeatDrill6:15 If you sprinkle the magic powder on the lady sweeping outside of her door, she turns into a fairy.
@@AndSaveAsManyAsYouCanSubjective, but true
In one of the Oracle games, the Chuchu talks about how Super Mario Sunshine "will" be
Lamp oil? Rope? Bombs? You want it?
It's yours, my friend! As long as you have enough rupees.
@@gameplayboy5686 Come back when you're a little... Mmmmmmm... Richer.
The entire cast of those games are weird
Sounds like a night of fun if I do say so myself 🥺
Ok but to be fair, a world in shambles and the only control she has is over a flowerbed - I gets it
Thid made me feel a way
4:35 I could be wrong but this "Little old lady" looks a lot like how Impa is portrayed in artwork for the original Legend of Zelda.
I do not think that it was supposed to be implied that it was the same old man every time you encountered him, just another old man who lived in high rule, and were living in different caves or whatever.
Exactly. 🤣 It's not the same guy teleporting around from dungeon to dungeon to help Link, to stealing his money in secret gambling dens
Wait, almost every Zelda game breaks the fourth wall. "Link, press the Z button to look at me!"
Almost every 3D (graphics) Zelda. The pixel games don't.
@@OtakuUnitedStudio
"A ghost with big ears and a weak point - he hates loud noise." - LoZ
"I am error." - AoL
"Hey, man! When you want to save just push all the Buttons at once! Uhh... Don't ask me what that means, I'm just a kid!" - LA
Mario picture - ALttP
I'm sure I could go on but I think the point has been made.
@@leviwarren6222 "Error" is the character's name, so you know to go back to him when someone tells you "Go take this to Error."
The Mario picture isn't a 4th wall break, just a reference. It's implied through several context clues that Zelda and Mario take place in the same universe, just on different worlds that are somehow able to connect with each other, which is why Mario enemies keep ending up in Zelda games.
LOZ and LA are two I can't really argue against, though in LOZ's case it was in the manual and not the game itself. Though using your real voice to attack enemies in-game could still count? But I think I was also thinking more about the targeting tutorials which are almost always 4th wall breaks.
@@OtakuUnitedStudio Error and Bagu (read: Bug) are confirmed to be in-jokes written in by the developers. A reference to another unrelated game (Mario) is by definition a fourth wall break. Link himself was intended from the beginning to be the link between the player and the game. He IS the fourth wall break.
"You can't read it from this side!"
The map puzzle in Phantom Hourglass.
The Oracle of Secrets.
"Guess what? You got it for free. Are you proud of yourself?"
Chris Houlihan.
I doubt I'm getting anywhere but I tried. Plenty of fourth wall breaks in Zelda.
Regarding Koltin: he also causes you to genocide Bubbulfrogs so he can become a Bluepee. So, he’s basically Bubbulfrog Pol Pot.
Hyrule, more like Cambodia.
One of the more random Zelda characters that had the biggest impact on me was Sale the Crocodile from Link's Awakening DX. I really loved the character and drew him a lot, and even started collecting weird canned food. There's canned food from the 90's still sitting in a corner of my dad's garage lmao
With all respect u are so handsome
@@Jcpenney2003 awh thank you so much! I struggle with self confidence bc my mom made fun of my weight a lot as a child. That really means a lot to me
You have excellent taste in games!
@@BaawBee dang wow two compliments in one thread this is not my usually CZcams experience lmao I'm glowing 🥰
For Ocarina of Time, the Happy Mask Salesman was the weirdest character, you don't know anything about him until the sequel!
The dumbbell guy in Symmetry Village is standing in the very center of Symmetry Village. That's why he needs a second dumbbell, so he can lift weights with both arms in perfect symmetry of each other.
Good video, I think they explain pretty well why the guy in Symmetry City can't exercise with just one arm and become unbalanced though! Everything in perfect balance!
Yeah. The whole town is weird. So I’d give Weirdest to either the Toilet Hand or Happy Mask Salesman. Why’d the hand give you poop?! Also the Ages HMS scared me as a kid (and I seriously thought his hair was supposed to be devil horns. In my defense, I didn’t know OoT/MM existed until I was older and learned I missed out on the N64 as a system)
24:55 I'm pretty sure those are reading glasses
Great video! These characters are super weird. You should do "the coolest character in every zelda game" next!!! :)
I genuinely want more happy mask salesman lore! I just find him to be so fascinating. I wish they would throw in some more references to him in the new games.
17:30 I think that the voice of the hand sounds a lot more like the mogmas from Skyward Sword.
I would have totally vote for the Poe collector as the weirdest in OOT. “If I looked like you I’d run a different kind of business” is CRAZY
Great video!! really entertaining. And I never really put much thought into the bunny man in Spirit tracks way back when I played it, but damn is he a very interesting character
My pick is Sakon the thief from Majora's Mask. He is a kleptomaniac and when you find him prancing around outside of his Hideout in Ikana, he is strangely threatening for a friendly NPC. I think the most notable thing about him is that you can kill him by shooting him with an arrow when he steals the big bomb bag, blowing him up with no trace of a body. As far as I know he is the only friendly NPC in a 3d Zelda that Link can kill.
Sakon these nuts
Great video dude! You can tell a lot of effort went into it!
Links probably more afraid of these characters then than the monsters he faces daily.
(And for the skyward sword characters names being references to birds, Groose does sound like Goose, but it could also be a play on Grouse which is also, a type of bird.)
I mean I fear my mental demons way more than dead hand or wind waker redeads
@@phyllojoe5346If you don't have the fear of geese, than you have obviously never had a pair lay their eggs in a parking lot landscaping island where you work. Nothing like having to do battle multiple times a day. The things you put up with for a smoke on break.
the presence of skater guy and the cucumber dude saying "i want to ride a plane" have some wild lore implications.
Maybe they both secretly took place after TotK?
huge props for including the Zelda game and watch game that was a nice surprise
What's beneath the Bag Guy's mask? Well, his character model and movements are based on "Papa" from Kakariko Village, so presumably he's a Lorulean recolor of that guy!
I noticed you got a few of your character model images from Zelda Wiki. I noticed that because I captured a bunch of them. Not asking for credit or anything, it's honestly nice to see them show up in people's videos. Some of them did take a lot of work to capture, though.
At 40:45 I think that the flowerbed is the only thing she has left in her life, so Link destroying it is Link taking the last thing that wasn't taken away from her yet away.
Fredrick the shopkeeper in Cadence of Hyrule is from the Necrodancer half of the crossover, and he does the same thing in COTND if you attack him.
Ocarina of Time - the guy obsessed with ghosts at the entrance to post apocalyptic castle town.
About the Game and Watch, another instance of 4th wall breaks is in Majora's Mask, where Link shrugs to the camera after joining forces with Tatl. Also, women pull mustaches off surprisingly well. Yes this is a plug for A Hat in Time.
Interesting point of note:
The Old Man who you find in caves in the overworld has normal, round ears, while the one you find inside dungeons has pointy ears. The overworld old man is a regular human, while the dungeon old man is a Hylian. Based on his robes, he could be Sahasrahla or Rauru.
Forgot to mention before, the Bridge Builder Brothers are based on Japanese pro wrestler Masaki Sumitani, also known as Razor Ramon HG. And Ooccoo is actually female.
I´m surprised that Ghrirahim from Skyward sword wasnt an honrable mention, or even the weirdest character in the game, his introduction scene with his thounge alone was allready very... special
"Imagine killing someone for stepping on your flowers" Wil Wheaton has entered the chat.
The gossip guy in A Link Between Worlds hints at what Gramps can do if you've done enough Streetpass Shadow Link challenges.
The Man of Smiles giving you the "Hero's new clothes" is a blatant reference to the tale of "The Emperor's New Clothes" where the Emperor of that tale is given something looking very similar to the "Hero's New Clothes." Though I wouldnt blame you if you thought your game was bugged when you got them.
Zelda's Adventure's skateboarder easter egg's audio is actually from the movie Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
Fun fact: Ted is played by Keanu Reeves. So, Keanu indirectly makes a cameo in one of the CDi Zelda games.
BotW weirdest is for sure the guy who is obsessed with the blood moon and turns maniacal whenever it happens
2:48 “welcome to *Rauru* “ ?!?
Was Rauru a place before the Sage of Light and Founding King of Hyrule? Interesting…
Not 100% but I’m pretty sure all of the sages from Ocarina have the same names as the towns from Zelda 2.
The Ocarina of Time sages were named after the Zelda 2 towns. Saria, Darunia, Ruto, Rauru, et cetera. So then, when Hyrule Historia came out, they changed it to say that the Zelda 2 towns were, in-universe, named after the OoT sages.
Rauru has been an important name far before Tears of the Kingdom.
@offbeatdrill 23:54 I don’t think the white pixels are the lady’s eyes it’s more like old lady glasses and the dark brown pixels above her “white eyes” are her eyes.
I think the minish cap old lady has glasses not white eyes?? Then the darker dots above those are her eyes? Love your vid!!
O M G!!!!! I didn't think I was going to be blown away by any of this, but I had NO idea about the LTTP one, and that is my all time favourite game. Wow!
6:15 If you sprinkle the magic powder on the lady sweeping outside of her door, she turns into a fairy.
For Phantom Hourglass, I would add that self proclaimed hero who pretends to be Link, on the sea with the so called king of red lions. It's just ridiculous when you talk to him as the real Link,. There's also Moran's father, who left his family to find mermaids. If you do his quest, you'll bring Jolene's younger sister, who pretends to be a mermaid, to his plastic pool on his island. She will basically stays there forever. Which is, really weird.
I think the most suspicious thing about the Old Man from Zelda 1 is that he has no alibi for January 6th, 2021. Makes you wonder.
Honestly I'm surprised you went with Beedle for WW and not the man-faced fish. Or the butler who is (somehow) literally a living painting/door...
Zelda 2 once you figure out where to find and use the magic is an amazing game. It confusedmthe hell out of me when it came out but I went back a few years ago and played it and loved it. There were so many Nintendo games that were just way too much for a kids brain and abilities. Plus it's not like you could look stuff up on the internet. You had to either get nintendo power or hope some kid at school knew. I think about all the hidden stuff in super mario brothers, legend of zelda, metronidazole, etc that we knew as kids and I can't even remember or imagine how the hell we figured it out. Arcades were good spots to trade secrets with kids
If I remember correctly, it requires a massive amount of energy to move the fountain like that, and that's why the Great Fairy Sisters share a fountain in AoC
Frederick from Crypt of the Necrodancer has an amazing singing voice!
My favorite Zelda character is named after a actor that was a huge part of my childhood hint actor named his daughter after Zelda
Great video! Is there anywhere I can contact you about a project privatley?
Thanks! offbeatdrill@gmail.com is my email.
Yooo Maggie! My favorite Wind Waker Character. I love how completely random she is.
Didn't realize FlowerBlight Ganon was also known as Magda in BOTW.
Link's cheerleader outfit from Tri-Force Heroes. Perfect for slaying vampires.
Happy Mask Salesman first appeared in Ocarina of Time and he wasn't as weird in Ocarina of Time as he was in Majora's Mask
For the old guy in zelda one, there is actually more than one and they have different sprites
I like Cia from Hyrule Warriors because she fall in love with Link but got corrupted by ganon but then she realized her role as the watcher of the Triforces after the defeat of Ganon if I remember correctly i also like her outfit
Ok, why I'm watching this and why I can't stop doing so.
I think I have a problem.
Lol, never realized that Link's Awakening is even more ridiculous due to eggs and sea mammals! I enjoyed the video :)
The Wind Fish, who is neither a fish, nor does he have anything to do with the wind.
He flies tho.
24:53 I think they're meant to be tiny glasses.
I haven't watched it yet, but I *know* tingle is in it
Don't remember what game but surprised the purple rabbit like suit wearing guy that takes over your house wasn't mentioned
You know what funny to me? At 28:32 the video clip you used was from olizandri a CZcams content creator who makes let’s play ona variety of different games and I’m 18 now and I have known that dude since I was 6
Wait, were you using footage from olizandri's playthrough of phantom hourglass?
Yes!! I saw that too he always names Link Oliz!
I've always thought that there where several old men in toz, not just one found in multiple places
24:55 those are her glasses, not her eyes. Though I guess it does increase the weird factor to imagine them as eyes, but I see glasses
There are tons of 4th wall breaks in Link's Awakening
22:40 “Maggie, a Stockholm syndrome victim” LMAOOO
13:41 they have to be twins. Or something like that. They look alike
Also surprised earthbound was mentioned
Madame Couture send to be a pretty straightforward homage to famous Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.
i think the old lady moblin in minish cap doesn't have white eyes. those could be either glasses or some sort of complementary colours for her face
Glasses yes
My favorite has always been The Poe Collector. From OoT/Majora’s Mask.
He ran the Poe-fighting mini game in Majora's Mask, right?
A yes, Magda… aka, Flower Blight Ganon 😂
I’ll be honest, I’m a huge TLoZ fan, but I genuinely never even heard of a few of these games.
The old man in the first one is weirdest because of starbombs best zelda rap ever.
Batreaux wasn’t born a human?? We was always a demon who just… wasn’t evil, and was tired of people being scared of him.
Honestly I wish he could just be able to go outside and hang out with people without having to change himself for them. Very sadge
Thank you Twin Peaks for inspiring Nintendo to make Zelda weird.
The dumble guy wanting to have 2 dumbles is because of the symmetry needed in the Village..
Never knew about the Mole in ALTTP O.O
i think for the mole they might be sunglasses
I didn’t know that you could kill the old man
I honestly think Bee guy is way weirder than rumor guy in A Link Between Worlds but that's just my opinion.
This guy sounds like the burger king lettuce guy
38:43 What was this song from?
Darude Sandstorm
actually it's the Riverside theme from Triforce Heroes haha.
25:00
I don't think the monster lady has white eyes. I think her eyes are closed or swinging and she has glasses
11:06 I thought you meant Jenna Fischer at first and had to look it up only to realize that you meant the receptionist of the developer office.
Even if Bagu was written as Bug, I doubt many kids would get the joke. Bayyhgooo!
Why doesn't people use the original Link's Awakening for the game Boy?
My sister started playing OoT on the Switch and her 10 and under kids who have only seen/played BotW/TotK wanted to know why the great fairy had such pointy boobs lol
Wait. Did he actually cover The Legend of Zelda: Game Watch created by Nelsonic (1989) in this video? Maybe I missed it.
The sign guy just looks like when Kenny from South Park flipped upside down so his butt was out the front of his hoodie
Link playing the song in the past to piss guy off just to learn it in the future... as yes time paradoxes, but with kinds like these there usually a missing nexus event that causes the loop. maybe in the original line link would have played along with him with his ocarina, jump starting the whole event, leading to the future to directly effect the past, retrocausality or something something blah blah... lol
The Zelder games are me favorite games.
In my opinion, Bagu is the most strange character of Zelda 2, much like Error, his name is related to system errors, and not only that, but also, he has a strange relationship with the only city full of villains, and as we know, he is the master of a _monster_
Edit: Oh, so it's a shared opinion, Bagu has so much backstory anyways, I don't think Nintendo will ever reveal it, the game is old, and all of OG Zelda's history is gone now
I like phantom hourglass the only problem was it is too short
I must disagree with you on Hyrule Warriors. Cia is obsessed, but the freaky Wizzro is crazy weird. His eye is also a realistic hand and mouth, that can change at will. I understand he's supposed to be a being of pure darkness, but the mouth in particular is super realistic, beyond most of the rest of the game. I'm sorry, he's visually off putting and the weirdest overall.
I love the algorithm pushing good small creators my way
Welcome to the team! It’s been giving me a lot of creators like this and I’ve honestly been enjoying them more than some of the bigger creators I’m subscribed to.
2:36 Here is the time stamp to THE GREATEST Zelda game.
21:42 This guy reminds me of a character from Bob's Burgers
