Theorists, now that Comic Con happened and we got a peek into the newly expanded plans for the MCU, I think it's time for a little theory I've been kicking around. An... Ant-Man sized theory you might say. You see, I think I know what the big event of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is going to be. We already know that Kang is going to show up, so it has to be some thing BIG. I think our favorite multi-sized hero is going to DIE!

God I love MatPat's theories. They usually turn out to be far better then what you'd expect Marvel Studios to do.
But sadly, this did *not* age well.☹️
Ant-Man dying could have not only shocked the audience, but it could've also shown us how dangerous and sinister Kang is.
He's supposed to be the next Thanos, RIGHT?!
The film did do a fake out, making us believe that Scott and Hope would be trapped in the Quantumrealm. But then Scott’s daughter just found them and plopped a portal on their location. It would have been better if the film actually ended with them stuck in the Quantumrealm. While it wouldn’t have been as big as Kang killing ant man, it would have still showed that defeating Kang took a big sacrifice.
this video was better than the movie
For multiple reasons in fact. 😬
Bro if Ant Man actually unalives, I will be so sad 😭
Honestly the ant man is super underrated I find it really funny and Paul rudd does really good playing the character.
I agree wholeheartedly, I find them really fun to watch, even if people don’t like how they’re toned. The X-con group is one of my favorite aspects of the movie, I wish we saw more of them just doing random shenanigans. Maybe shorts or something.

the ant man series is my favorite!
Seems MatPat failed to remember that Scott Lang is not the only Ant-Man in the Ant-Fam. Hank Pym is far more likely to die in Quantumania than Scott.
Especially since Paul Rudd is a fan favorite.
But the whole point of a pinch point is that it’s supposed to be meaningful, and tbh as much as i love Hank Pym, he really isn’t that meaningful.
People love Paul Rudd and his character, but that’s the exact reason why it’s more probable that he will die
@@creaperreaper6676 It would still be pretty meaningful since I believe Hank is the only one capable of making Pym Particles, which is what the Avengers Time Machine runs on. If Hank dies, it would mean no more going back in time to fix mistakes and put them at a major disadvantage since Kang is pretty much all about time travel.
@@lilsavage9946 But you’ve got to realize that even if that is the case, those effects are too obscure for them to have any real meaning. Even you yourself said “I believe” which shows uncertainty because of its lack of meaning. Though i think you’re correct, it shows that the effects of his death are to obscure, especially the ones you named.
If Hank Pym were to die, the first effect to pop into most minds wouldn’t be the fact that they can’t make any more time traveling particles. The movie would have to directly explain that effect for most to understand the importance of his death, which would just be bad/unneeded writing.
The effects of the death need to be easily understood for the pinch point to have any real effect. If it isn’t important then it really isn’t a pinch point.
If the Quantumania will be with parallel universes, then it would be pretty badass to see Hank Pym as the Yellowjacket (from What if...)
Well, he didn't die and I think a big reason is how early this movie plays into the multiverse saga. It seems like we're 2 movies and a disney plus series from Kang dinasty but Quantumania is the first movie of phase 5 and killing Scott would be too soon for that, specially since Kang told him about the incursions and the future war that lies ahead.
Phase 4 felt like a period of transition and establilshment of future players and Scott will play a big part in phase 5 and beyond since he is now taking essentially Tony Stark's role of being the paranoid hero and will most likely be working with his family for a way to escape an incursion.
we _did_ get Fractions that the Kang Dynasty is getting antsy with universes getting aware of the existence of the multiverse in this movie, which is a major yikes. i think people are being too impatient for Kang to unleash his full power
Liar video alive
Imagine if Marvel executives see this and decide to surprise the audience by letting Scott live

Yes, but what if Wong dies... think about it for a second. He has appeared in just about every major movie lately. It would be a punch to the gut to see him pass the torch now that Doc Strange finally acknowledged him as the sorcerer supreme.
You do get Wong is the new Phil Coulson, right? Sorcerers are pretty much the new S.H.I.E.L.D. They are the only ones watching over the earth and reality anymore.
And yes, I bring this up in direct reference to Avengers 1.
@@Hadeks_Marow of course yes, but what if…? No pun intended.

Makes sense, "Ant Man will die", but you didn't consider which "AntMan"? Given how popular Paul Rudd's Ant-Man is, (and given how old Michael Douglas is,) I'd say they're much more likely to murder the original Hank Pym / Ant-Man. But hey...
As always thank you so very much for the video.
True, but Iron Man and Captain America haven’t appeared since Endgame. Just because they’re popular doesn’t mean they’re guaranteed to stick around.
"Given how popular Paul Rudd's Ant-Man is"
Iron-Man who started it all: 🗿
That wouldn't be dramatic enough. Marvel needs to get people to the movies and there have been some super hero fatigue lately so if they want to get huge crowds to see their movies they need to have high stakes. Having a super old former hero dying just wont get many people to care. They might have gone overboard a bit with endgame since it will be very hard to top, great movie but how do you raise the stakes higher then that?
I am not saying that the Marvel movies will flop unless they raise the stakes but it will be hard to beat Endgame. Movie genres tend to go up and down and I believe super heroes are going down at the moment, there have just been a bit too many movies both from Marvel and other studios the last 15 years and you can say the same thing about Star wars movies too.
We seen other genres go up and down as well, Vampire movies were super popular a few years back but now people aren't interested in them but they will come back again after a while. Fans always watch them anyways but also need the general public to see them if you want those blockbuster numbers, particularly since these movies aren't cheap to make.
I might of course be wrong and super heroes just took a little Covid break with everything else but I do think they need to make a bit of an effort with the next few movies.
@@breawen more than one thing can be popular

Sadly, Ant-Man hasn’t watched Because Science as he doesn’t know that he has beyond thanos level power
Another Marvel “pattern” is death and returning secretly as another hero. Like Hawkeye did becoming Ronin. In the comics Ant Man “died” but then returned as Yellow Jacket. Also, we all know young heroes need mentors. Scott could potentially be Cassie’s mentor as well when he returns, taking more or a background role.
I remember watching him become Yellow Jacket in EMH and it was one of the most amazing moments in the show for me.
@@arcticdragon5823 That was Hank that turned into Yellowjacket in that show tho, not Scott
Hank Pym was the original antman who became yellowjacket. Yellow Jacket was better suited for him thematically because AntMan was a hero and Hank Pym was, in his heart, anything but. He was a scientist and he a cold, selfish and harmful person. That's why he came back as Yellow Jacket, to ditch AntMan and be alone.
It would be weird to have Scott Lang Ant Man fake his death in this movie just to come back as Yellow Jacket because.... why? Like why would he do that, just because a different antman character did it in the comics?
But Hawkeye didn't die?
Yellow jacket is an already established character in the mcu in the first ant man, so I don't think it makes much sense for Scott to become a villain he already fought
What if the Ant-Man that gets killed is Hank Pym? I mean he's probably like a grandfather figure to Cassie by this point and the only living person who can create Pym particles that allow for time travel something that I'm sure Kang would be against. This would go with the theme of heroes losing their tech in the 3rd installment movies.
But the thing is that it won't hit as hard because we never saw Cassie or Hank interact unlike her interactions with her father, which is something we actually saw, in fact Scott and Cassie's relationship has always been a main focus for the films
Yeah, this is more likely.
This is also a good alternative. I approve of thee👍

The comic tie in doesn’t make a lot of sense. Cassie didn’t form the young avengers. Although I like spin-off stories about various characters, I’ve never had the slightest interest in ‘generational’ stories. It’s the original characters I care about. Stories about their kids always come off as lazy and ‘desperately trying to squeeze value out of the original story’ to me. I am vaguely curious how well the young avengers might do en mass.
The young avengers and characters having someone take their place brings a lot of opportunities which marvel has done countless times in the comics thanks to all the different timelines and how they’re linked together so if it’s done well the mcu could be similar to the past but in a different way by bringing new and more intricate pieces of that multiverse so hopefully they’ll do a good job but if they don’t it’ll probably end up being repetitive
Yeah no I couldn’t give 2 craps about the young avengers but I’m interested to see how this all plays out, I do hope the original avengers stick around for just a little while longer though but yeah I’m with you on this one

It also rides on storytelling and the source material
Which the movies don't follow. The infinity stones (some of the most powerful objects in the comics) have been reduced to paper weights in the movies.
The fact that Scott finally gets recognize gets famous and was love by people in the 3rd movie(bc in endgame no one knows him), will makes us love him more makes sense killing him so our hearts will be shattered and be dying to wait for the new phase

8:44 but Lego is the most powerful material known to man
Well, this aged brilliantly.
"It's not the HOW that's important, it's the WHY" - Madame Webb ( Spider-Man TAS )
Matpat, you've been ruining our childhoods since 2011, and we've enjoyed every single year of it 😉
Wait until life ruins your adulthood.
He’s not gonna die, and here’s why. So basically this movie takes place before Endgame correct? Yep. So using this logic, he isn’t gonna die. But I think Hank or Janet will lmao
@@warpednight Nope, it takes place after Endgame. Obviously Ant-Fam except Janet wasn't aware of Kang during the events of the 'Infinity Saga.'

I’ve gotta feeling this video isn’t gonna age well
Lol ya
Lol
They’re not killing off Paul Rudd anytime soon😂
let's wait and see but yeah.
Just like the others have said, the most likely to die is the "other" Ant-Man (Hank Pym)
Just saw this video today and I love it and apparently it came out on my b-day
Scott's variant will be killed .616 antman is being asked by kang for a help in the trailer, that other variants cant provide.what that might be?Maybe that help can keep him alive.
"Antman shrinks himself and jumps up Kang's... BUT HEY THAT'S JUST A THEORY"
A very underrated line lmao 💀💀
The fact but hey also sounds like it's the same sentence-
Just like he killed thanos supposably ☠️
Now that you mention it. The fact that Kang asked him if he's killed him before , is probably foreshadow his death
1:45 It's an older meme sir, but it checks out.
Glad to see that part at 2:39 about the hero’s journey
Wait so you’re telling me we’re supposed to fear Kang but he’s a reasonable matchup for the young avengers??
Lol
I don't think he's a reasonable match-up. He's their first villain because he's the reason them become a team. He still has inifinte variants of himself.
I would say Hank dies over Scott tbh, as a self sacrifice to save Scott, Janet, Hope and Cassie.
You should do a theory about how Bealin’s route its about a games Ai taking over and managing to break its own code
Mat can you make a theory about coreline ?
13:15 ‘Unless ant man shrinks down and goes up kang’s but hey…’
This got me thinking about the entire MCU, across ALL networks (Disney+, Universal, Netflix, etc...) and was curious if MatPat and crew had thought about putting together a proper watch order for everything that has been released and everything that is to be released in the future. I think that would make a great episode.
its already on disney plus. just switch ant man the wasp with infinity war and you're good
@@SsbPrime I mean those movies are allowed to flip flop solely because of the end credits scene in ant man, they take place at the same time
@@dtaylorondabeat which is why ant man and the wasp comes after infinity war
Complete MCU Timeline, including the old shows fake MCU fans try to call non canon even though they were better than the D+ shows. czcams.com/video/dVirpal6bk0/video.html
I think there’s an official watch order or it’s just the order of release since Iron Man 1
Need an updated theory after the new trailers dropped
For you’re next marvel theory you should explore what the galactus helmet shaped thing in the eternals at 2:11:40
What about Guardians 3? Could that be a pinch? Granted that's before you mentioned the leaked helmet, but maybe Antman and any of his team members don't die, what if it's from Guardians side? Also why not the original Antman instead of Scott? Maybe Hank Pym? Though you do make a lot of good points, guess I just don't want to see Paul Rudd leave.
The pinch points needs to come from kang the big bad but the guardians will probably die by the highevolutionary so that won't be a pinch point.

Thanks for you input, I don't know the comics much, so don't know the high evolutionary. I suppose yeah it wouldn't be impactful in the universe of Marvel, just us the fans to see them die, which yeah probably be all of them, they're all about family, they held hands to help Peter channel the infinity stone, to wake him up from his dad's alluring words and godhood, if they go out it would either be together or just him. Making up for losing Gamora, making up for losing his adoptive and better father, to pay them back for always helping him now it's his time to help them is how I could see it, but yeah together or never is probably how it will go down.
I kinda feel like they're gonna do something with the watcher. We already know that Captain Brita- sorry Captain Carter is (or was) canonnicaly in the MCU (wait would it be Marvel Cinematic Multiverse now?), along with Strange Supreme, in the same movie no less, which means that there's a fairly high chance that the others exist as well... including the watcher. I don't quite know what they would do with him, but I feel like Marvel could use him more.
Captain Britain 😂
Please do a theory on severance
"A FILM THEORYYYY... and cut!"
Me proceeding to slowly realise every film theory matt gets right is actually just a spoiler 😭
The way MatPat describes Kang at the beginning really reminds me of the plot for everything everywhere all at once
That's not too far a stretch for how Kang works tbh
Personally, I really hope that the Power pack makes an appearance in the MCU, either as a movie or a short series. The basic background points have already been set up, with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law presumably leading to the creation of Kamala's Law, which prevents the action of underage superheroes without a mentor. This in itself is important since the Power Pack are one of the few young superheroes tied to the Avengers (there were some crossovers with Iron Man, Spider Man, Hulk, etc. ) who don't have an official mentor.
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk. The Power Pack has become a recent fan-favorite of mine, and I really hope it gets some representation. (Also there was a crossover with Moon Girl, whom is getting her own series, soooo)
I just recently found out that the Power Pack existed, like within the past few days. I do think it would be cool to see them show up in the MCU at some point. But unfortunately I’m pretty sure the Moon Girl show won’t be connected to the MCU. So, even though I’m now hoping for them to show up in that series, they would still have to have a separate introduction in the MCU.
13:19 got me on the ground 🤣😭
I was just saying this to cosmic wonder I found it very interesting that keeping that kang alive makes it so that one kang exists killing him multiplied all of the Kangs which would then lead into secret wars causing a bunch of incursions leaving until just one battle world it's almost like Kang and the Multiverse are inversely connected.
