If anyone has any questions, we'd be happy to answer what we can here!
I'm only in Didcot, can I come visit your Thame workshop?
All jokes aside, your products are great.
Amazing pedal. I checked, and you have a distributor here in Tel Aviv. Will check it out.
Why does it cost so much? Why do all your effects cost so much? I'll be honest with you- if I could afford anything you make- I would own it, all of it- but I can't. If you're not a gigging musician, and I would say a fairly successful one, it's extremely difficult to pay the prices you guys ask.
@@soulisthegoal96 We're actually based over in Buckingham now, so a little further but still quite local!
@@stoneysdead689 We appreciate our prices won't resonate with everyone, but the reason for our pricing is essentially the pedals themselves and their manufacturing cost.
We tend to design pretty complicated circuits with quite substantial component counts. We aim to use higher grade components and parts through those designs. And, on top of that, we manufacture and operate out of the United Kingdom.
Lizard Queen owner here. The bright tinny sound is coming from the buffer in the Jeff Archer. I verified with my Tumnus deluxe and Lizard Queen. Cycling the defeatable buffer takes one from the harshness you hear to a much nicer sound as it was designed to produce. Like many fuzzes, it doesn't play well with buffers.
me play strat neck pup, jazzy, like no tinny tone, but darkish n fat , but not clumsy! ( as the SD Pickup Booster was...), oh and dynamics!

I just got mine today, what do you mean by it doesnât do well with buffers? My strobostomp i think has a buffer so should I put it in front of the tuner?
@@Thrashcandy yes I would. Just like you would a fuzz face. Circuits like fuzz face and this pedal are very sensitive to the impedance of what is connected to the input. It wants to see the guitar pickups.
â@@Thrashcandyfuzzes always in front of almost everything. they have old circuits
Its kinda of a test of my nerve to watch Lee reading manuals what I wrote...not gonna lie :D
How do I get your job?
HeÂŽs horrible at that đ
@@savoirfaire8979 Write them a application manual đ
What?? There is SO much more you could have done with the Lizard Queen
Dear lord that lizard fuzz is taking my head off. I wonder if it wants to see an unbuffered high impedance signal directly from your pickups, and not at the end of a pedal chain that might have buffers?
good point. the archer is buffered I believe, that might add a lot of high end
It is a silicon fuzz. It doesn't have input impedance requirements.
The Jeff Archer came about in 2019 or so when Jeff Beck wanted to retire his actual Klon from touring. They originally did a limited hand numbered run with NOS components (my dad spoke to the head dude at J Rockett about it before ordering one). Then at some point they decided to make it more readily available with different, more attainable diodes, which you can buy now. Hope this gives some insight.
The Captain's face says it all when it comes the Lizard Queen.
Lmao Pete got some decent tones but yeah that pedal did not sound great
I think they ran it after a buffer. Vintage fuzz pedals don't like that.
I came for the comedy that usually accompanies a Lee and Pete pedal review and I wasn't disappointed.
Enjoying the Pedal Cabinet series.
YAY thanks for the video guys. Was looking forward to a 3rd parties take on the Wong and the lizard queen.
Holy shit that DXC Boost sounds great!
Pete's playing is awesome as always!
Lizard Queen caught my attention for the price, dug how itâs based on your guitarâs volume knob to adjust the fixed fuzz of the pedal.
The Jeff sounds killer too!
A good test of any pedal is "am I coming up with new riffs". I had this with an SL drive recently and had to buy it. I can see Pete really getting inspired by the tone.
Love Tales from The Pedal Cabinet!
The ultimate Klon clone (imo) is the Tumnus Deluxe, for one reason⊠itâs one of the only ones that has a 3 band EQ and a soft/hard clipping toggle, giving you WAY more tonal options than most standard Klon clones. Itâs epic.
No, it's the Halcyon Gold now đ
Three great pedals (especially the DCXBoost). Then there is the Lizard Queen đ
The always-on button on the Wong Compressor is just what I need because I can never hear that my compressor is on in the first place ...
I do wonder if the lizard queen would be better if it was first in line, Josh is a big proponent of fuzz going first in the chain.
100 percent. I have one and its massive and fat. It sounded shit and thin here. It would have been fine if the rest of the pedals are true bypass but I checked the Wong Compressor is definitely buffered bypass. They definitely did the pedal an injustice here.
You only have to do that with certain fuzz circuits- and this isn't one of them. Generally speaking- not always but usually- if it has a tone control on it- it doesn't need to be first in line. This pedal is thin and harsh- I returned mine- only JHS pedal I've ever disliked. I think maybe they got so caught up in the look of the thing, making sure it fit in with the EHX theme- that they sacrificed time working on the way it sounds. The whole thing comes off as a gimmick to a large degree- imo. In reality I could care less about whether it looks like a EHX pedal or whether Mike had anything to do with it or any of that- I just wanted a good octave fuzz, and this aint it.
@@stoneysdead689 As far as I understand it, and I'm a pleb so forgive if this is wrong, the placement of fuzz is dependent on number of transistors. I.e a two transistor fuzz needs to be up front(like a fuzz face) and a 4 transistor is more flexible (like a big muff.)
as far as I can tell, this a 3 transistor topology (similar to a tone bender) which typically is less stable than that of a big muff or similar. So it would most likely benefit from placement in my idiot-level research. Hopefully jhs will do a video on it and clear it up.
The other thing is that octave effects typically need the cleanest signal possible for tracking or doubling accurately.
I do not own one and I'm not an engineer, so please take with a grain of salt.
@@jamesnicholson6016 LOL- Yeah, I watch the JHS show to man- but putting this pedal first in line doesn't change the way it sounds- I tried it. It still sounded thin and harsh.
@@stoneysdead689 100% this pedal has to be first in the chain if you are using otjer pedals that are not true bypass, if they are true bypass that you can have the lizard after them it after them, as long as they are bypasseed. Especially if you want to make it interact with you guitars volume and tone pots.
The origin would make a killer rhythm pedal in the studio
yeah love these mate they sick keep on with em
That archer pedal sounded great, would love to hear a comparison to the standard archer. Also the LP into the lizard queen was pretty nice as well.
I got my Lizard Queen today. Itâs crazy loud. You need to run volume around 9 oâclock for best results. I went and checked the JHS video when they dropped the pedal and Josh also was running it at about 9 oâclock for his demo. Not sure why they made it so loud, but thatâs what seems to be the case.
Give us more of the"Elbow" jokes. It took me 15 minutes...đđ©
Guys⊠you have a buffered pedal running into the fuzz. Please put the fuzz first in the chain and try it again.
I like them all !!
Iâd like to see you do a demo of the dcxbass. That guitar pedal sounded great! I love subtle and sweet type of pedals
Whatâs the link to the UA little feat. Vid ??
Actually, overdriving your DI channel can sound awesome - that's how the song Black Dog was recorded, along with tons of other Zepplin tunes. They used an 1176 compressor to overdrive a Neve preamp on their desk.
you guys are funny, the wong compressor ! đ€Ł
that last pedal sounds like the amp is broken. LOL!
Exactly like an octave fuzz should sound
Corey Wongâs right hand is a machine
When you put a ÂŁ2500 guitar through a fuzzâŠcan really hear that nitrocelluloseâŠ
why is this the first time I've heard of an "always on" feature on a compressor pedal?!
I got my 'The Jeff' Archer pedal before Jeff Beck passed away so I think Lee got that bit wrong, or should I say wong?
that old APHEX Punch Factory, ( the chunky orange colored ones ) was the only compressor DI combination i can recall, previous.
Bearded superhero is The Green Arrow. Look him up.
Captain Birdseye is a super hero, and he's got a beard.
Bought my lizard queen on day 1
Me to- returned it on day 3- because it sounds like shit.
@@stoneysdead689 it takes a little finessing. The magic is in your guitarâs volume knob.
My Lizard Queen sounds 10x better than this. Its awesome.
I've tried to purchase one, but get no answer from the shop. I must be winging the wong number! đ€
Which colour is that Silversky? Anyone??
Kind of unrelated, but maybe someone here can help me as Iâm kind of going crazy lol
I just upgraded my noname chinese 2x12 to basically a pair of Matamp 2x12s and the difference is kind of disappointing. My chinese cab sounds so clear and studio like, and the new ones with ''real'' speakers almost sound fake, like a small practice amp kind of tone, and also kind of distant. any ideas at all? the new cabs are also huge 2x12s so maybe that has something to do with it? I had an Emperor 2x12 with V30s and same issue. Using an Orange CR120 so maybe thats it ?
Yeah, sometimes more famous is not always better, specially when you got used to the right way to dial your sound with your previous cab. Matamps are notoriously finnicky at lower volumes also, they'll probably only start to sound great when you get to "neighbours will call the cops" levels of volume.
@@Fusso thank you for the reply! Any ideas on what I should do?
@@C0nnie You can try to overdrive the preamp with a tube screamer or a Klon (Clone ffs). See if you like the sound. Otherwise, not much to do, use those cabs for live events and at home you can try some more tameable.
The truth is that ppl are often disappointed when they go buy what they consider "real speakers" because they find out that guitar is supposed to be focused in the midrange. Cheaper speakers will often sound much fuller, rounder- but this is not good in a mix. It sounds great sitting in your bedroom but- you put that tone in a band context and all the sudden you disappear- you can't be heard, and you're stepping all over the bass line. Where as a good cab would have you focused in that perfect midrange niche. If I were you I would try the cab in a band setting - see how it sounds when you're playing with others.
@@stoneysdead689 I have a feeling this is it. Iâm a bedroom guy with full-band aspirations lol I wanted to be well equipped and prepared. Thanks for the advice
Need to do a shootout between the Compadre and the Wong
How come Pete's not playing his purple PRS?
Sound like the Lizard Queen pedal is broken . Or is it just me who does not like the tone ?
I have one and found that it does not care for a buffered signal and works best at the beginning of your signal chain. I believe where they have this placed in the chain of the video is having an effect.
I donât think they know how to dial it in
Cause I just got mine and it sounds so good
But I have a different amp
@@ampoll88 yeah I have mine first and it seems to work best there⊠most fuzz are best in the front
@@nathanararal446 I agree, especially with this one!
Agreed, this sounds nothing like my Lizard Queen. Not hard to dial in, there are great tones everywhere on this pedal... they need to revisit it.
âŠoh that is some joyous dirt!
Iâll reserve judgement on the Lizard Queen until I play one, Iâve heard mixed reviews on it. I wanted to get an octave fuzz that lets you dial in the octave like this has but not sure I like the tone of this. (Yes they shouldâve had it first) but even Joshâs video of it, I wasnât really digging the tone except for that broken amp sound which I like sometimes but not all the time
Origin make great stuff ,, DCX no exception
Yes Thor has had a beard. Aquaman has had a beard. one iteration of Starman had a beard. Reed Richards had a beard at one point.
Iron Man, Hercules, Wolverine, Black Panther, Aquaman, Blade, Doctor Strange, Nick Fury, Green Arrow, Captain America (briefly), Star Lord, Heimdall, The Falcon, Bishop, and The Immortal (because he was Abraham Lincoln before he faked his death.)
DCX was a revelation. So good? Like all Octave Fuzz pedals dialing it in, is 90%âŠ10% is praying that you can figure something to play!
Occasionally we get the room sound, which sounds dramatically better than the recorded sounded ⊠just an opinion
You lookin in the wong place for my love đ¶
"dirty and loose" LOL
The Lizard Queen sĂČunds nothing like the one I got. Your's seems to be broken.
Same here đđđđ
Agree 100%
Is there an audiobook Lee reading Little Red Riding Hood?
I'd rather have one of the guitars from the unboxing then a clon
Than* ..but I agree, a Klon is just a guitarist version a Mickey Mantle rookie card. Strictly clout
@@tres311 Oh hear comes the spelling police

Also, yes - it is based on the Ego compressor fwiw
which means it's a Ross compressor with more controls
The Jeff Archer has been out for years at this point, itâs not a new pedal.
The Lizard Queen sounds so awesome. I'm not big on octave fuzz, but it could change my mind!
Thor is the answer to your hero with beard also Dirk Diggler is a very cool name
The Geoffrey Archer
Thor has a beard sometimes. The Green Arrow has one. Chadwick Boseman had a beard when he played Black Panther. There are probably more I'm just not remembering right now.
They have a voice toggle too for a more Rat like Distortion tone?
"Moskey Silver Horse" ÂŁ27.99 Amazon Klon, Clone
Listen, I love the Captain. Love this channel and I've been watching for years. ...but I've never seen so much finger dancing on a pedal's knobs while changing so little. So many different ways he could tweak it but he moves one knob forward 4 degrees then another one back 5 degrees, then goes back and puts the original knob exactly where it started, then simply taps the other two knobs without turning them at all. This makes me nuts!
Of course, every pedal I like is north of $300. Damn it!
I love the King of Blues and it's 80 bones.
Lizard Queen is only $100! :)
@@TrashHeapCustodian haha, I said all the ones I liked!
Is it really though? I mean that's what it costs- I get that but- is it "worth" that- I highly doubt it.
he tuns up the level, punching the front of the amp,
" well if you could get a sound like that strait into a desk, who would need an amp?", ( Oops, bad timing....or was that a different way to say, you're defeating the purpose of the demo? )
Thor has a beard!!!
what about King Vultan played by Brian Blessed in Flash Gordon?
Guys, you really need ro do another cideo on the Lizard Queen. This one does not sound anything like one!
There is a number of characters both hero or villain in Marvel Universe that dawn a beard.
Red Guardian
Mordo
Luke Cage
Strange
M'Baku and
Bishop
Just to name a few. Well some carry a goatie but... It does vary from one comic book series to another
You can't answer a question of "is there a superhero with a beard?" with supervillains or heroes with moustaches.
Bishop I will give you.
Luke Cage's most "on-model" version is without a beard, so I wouldn't count him.
Alright, not only is Thor a proper superhero with a beard, Captain America has a beard in Avengers: Infinity War and Thor quips that Cap was copying him. Plus, Iron Man has a goatee. That's a lot of beards on core superheroes.
Superheroes with beards... Invincible on Amazon prime đđ
Origin sounds awesome, but you'd need two to get full use out of them. Wish it was a double pedal. The Archer, is great, but that's a hefty price for a single pedal. The Lizard Queen sounds crap on it's own, great in a band mix.
When you think what ehx was doing way back and still is Mike Mathews should be in the Hall Of Fame , with Les Paul, Charlie Watkins, Jim Marshall, Leo , Ted , ..Changed musicâŠ
hasn't the Jeff been out for years????
Am i the only one who has never heard of the cory guy?
AQUAMAAAAAAN
Thor it was even braided in Endgame, Hercules, Tony Stark, captain America had a stubbly type beard if that counts? Aquaman (Jason Momoa) Dr Strange, Green Arrow had an Errol Flynn type deal in the comics as youâre talking about archers.
I need to get out more... or play more guitar
Thor, Odin, Hercules (Marvel version), Green Arrow (gotee), at times Mr. Fantastic, Zeus, Graviton, Warlord, Volstagg, Fandral
Graviton is a villain.
Mr Fantastic has no beard far more frequently than he has one.
Odin, Volstagg and Fandral are supporting characters in a superhero comic, not superheroes themselves.
Warlord is a different genre entirely.
Bearded superhero: ZZ-Cop
The Black Panther had a beard
'Chunky'
I liked the first few pedals but that Lizard Queen is hurting my ears. Too harsh for me. Love you guys.
Honestly I could replay the first 10 seconds of this video, just to see Lee's reaction to the name of the pedal. Not a fan of Cory Wong but I do like his humour, please correct if I'm not Wong.
offensive & unnecessary
@@laphamimur8915 I bet you're a fun one at parties
Cocaine Bear Hug? True...
Always wondered why it was Wong that has gotten all the recognition when itâs the bass player from Vulfpeck that carries that band
Price of these pedals rival a modern amplifier with speaker.
Modern Amplifiers made in Asia, where the cost of production and parts is incredibly low.
These pedals are built in the setting $4000-5000 US made amps are.
The lizard queen sounded awful. I got mine from Andertons and it sounds massive and fat. I reckon you guys should have had the guitar going directly into it, like most fuzz pedals. The Archer, like any good klon is buffered by pass probably why it the lizard queen sounded shit and thin the confused look on your faces. That's what I reckon. I feel like you guys did the pedal an injustice here. Quick edit the Wong Compressor is definitely a buffered bypass.
how do they not know this about fuzzes at this point? Sheesh!
@@adamfstewart81 All too often they just plunge in and wing it, rather than preparing properly beforehand.
My Lizard Queen also sounds SO much better than this.

What is wong with me...i love pedals.
Thor did have a beard and so did Captain America.
Sorry for my confusion: does the Wampler compressor also act as an audio interface? Like, if you had the Wong, would your audio interface become redundant?
Nah. It just means that you can plug the output of the pedal directly into an interface. Normally, not easy to get good sound out of a pedal directly into an interface without some sort of speaker simulator.
@@lancenunez8252 awesome. Thank you.
I'm going to go ahead and say what everyone I've seen play the Lizard Queen wants to say but seems afraid to- it sounds awful. I love JHS pedals- I own many, and this is the first one I've ever disliked even a little- but I hate this thing man, I sent mine back. It's thin, super harsh and overly bright, and I can't believe JHS signed off on this thing and let it go out the door. I think Josh and Daniel got so caught up in their little role-playing fantasy and making a pedal with Mike Mathews that they dropped the ball on the most important part- how it sounds.
not the pedal's fault - it needs to see an unbuffered signal. Shocking these two didn't figure that out. wtf
@@adamfstewart81 It's not their fault the one I bought and put first in my signal chain sounded like crap. I returned it.
Green Arrow has a beard most of the time

Mr. Anderton, I wanted the right compressor for me, but you gave me Wong compressor, I want to return it.
Pete! My ears are baseline calibrated to you plugged into the Friedman little sister. Today the amber light is out on the little blue amp and your cable has been high jacked by another. Please fix this obvious oversight .
