  • This is a tribute to the adorable relationship that Mama Cass Elliot and Papa Denny Doherty had from The Mamas & The Papas.
"My Heart Stood Still" is one of the songs that they sang on the Rodgers and Hart Today TV special on March 2, 1967. I feel like the song definitely fits and could be about Cass towards Denny. Unfortunately although Cass was in love with Denny from the very beginning, the feelings were never reciprocated but they were still extremely close, “like an old married couple” as people would say.
"The Mamas & the Papas were an American folk rock vocal group formed in Los Angeles, California, which recorded and performed from 1965 to 1968. The group was a defining force in the music scene of the counterculture of the 1960s. The group was composed of Americans John Phillips, Cass Elliot, and Michelle Phillips and Canadian Denny Doherty. Their sound was based on vocal harmonies arranged by John Phillips,[2] the songwriter, musician, and leader of the group, who adapted folk to the new beat style of the early 1960s."

It’s so sad to think that Cass’ love was not corresponded by Denny because of her weight.
Watching this video is so bitter-sweet, it’s lovely though! 🥰

If he wasn't so high when she asked him to marry her they would have been together
