- On August the 21st we went to North Gower Street and saw the filming of a scene from 'Sherlock' Series 3, episode 3: 'His Last Vow'. There are no spoilers about the storyline of the episode, however if you wish to know nothing at all about Series 3 before it airs we advise viewer discretion. #Setlock 21/8/13. I'm impressed with how the crowd quiets down during shooting. No screaming or anything.
When I was on set for "Disney Channel Games" in 2008 they all had to be quiet the whole time they were filming. It is crazy how people can shush, and I always appreciate that cause it shows respect.
True but I've read somewhere that on some occasions in the past Benedict has had to actually (kindly) ask the crowd to quiet down because they were disturbing the shooting. So it's not always this perfect, But if you think about it it's logical that they'd be quiet. They know that if they're interfering with the shooting they'll just be sent away and everybody wants to stay 100%!

Oh dear in what conditions these actors need to work and concentrate! At least in the theater it's dark and quiet.
Oana Anita Bunea they need as much realism as possible to make the show not seem like some stupid tv romcom or something else recorded in a studio area.
I just wish many people in this world would understand the importance of getting stuff done and noticing the minds of others even if you can read them. You can, however, imagine how they feel.

I like how the fans have enough respect to stay silent when they are filming scenes like that outside.
It's so awesome how polite Cumberbatch is to his fans. He could been quite rude but he wasn't. Just as easily as the production team could have asked everyone to leave but they were allowed to stay. :)

Here's an idea. If anyone ever has the chance to hand over a notebook to Cumberbatch for a autograph, write an encouraging message on the notebook before handing it over to him, so that he would read it and receive your personal message of support. I think that's one small direct way of supporting your favorite actor who has been on the set for a long time, trying to meet a tight schedule, and then having to rush to his next appointment somewhere else.

I have to say, I'm very impressed with those extras. I wouldn't be able to walk casually past the actors while filming, I'd be to busy going, "oh my God, CELEBRITIES!!!11!!"
I think you stop being star struck after the 0th or 11th take. :) My experience was different than the persons above me. I did stand in work for a movie Sharon Stone did called "The Last Dance" and while we could not take photo of the set, we all hung out together and chatted away the dead time. I don't think the extra's ha as much freedom to hang out with her though, I don't remember. But all in all, they are just people doing their jobs.

I like Ben and find that he's unfailingly charming and polite. But Martin ... I mean, come on -- he's not just an insanely talented actor, he's also absolutely gorgeous! Especially when he laughs. What a gorgeous, gorgeous man.
Martin is actually a good actor and maybe he didn't want to take pictures with fans because he didn't want to be not focus

Live theatre experience really helps with that! When I started drama school, one of the first things we learnt was to 'act ourselves' in front of an audience. Once you get over the self-consciousness you can just sort of block everyone out (the fourth wall) ^-^
so whenever they are doing a scene in a street I can imagine hundreds of people just off shot

Behind the scenes shows me how excruciatingly boring is most of the time actors are working. I'm glad there are people willing to do the same things a hundred times until the camera get's it right.
its really fun! I love it might seem boring or long but its super fun
It depends on what you're filming and where. If it's in an indoor set, the environment is more relaxed because they have minimal interruptions and more time. When it's outdoors in areas heavily populated by random civilians, the pressure must be absolutely immense as shown in this clip. It's all very impressive though.
I love how when benedict and martin make eachother laugh, everyone in the crowd goes "AWWW"
The fact that they rehearse in front of such a huge crowd is really impressive to me. I know that they're professionals and they have lots of people watching them while they work no matter what (the crew, directors etc) but having so many fans screaming while taking pictures and videos of you is really different and it seems so difficult to me. And as much as I would love to have a chance to see one of their rehearsals and be that close to the set, I think I would just go, catch a glimpse of them and then leave and let them work in peace. I'm a teenager, I like acting and I do it as a hobby. And there's nothing more infuriating than trying to rehearse and have people talking around you.

I totally agree. As much as we love to see Ben C. and Martin in person, it looks like fans took over the stage. Don't you guys want to see the next episode? And what with all those cell phones? Don't you guys have respect for the actors you do supposedly admire? I wish they could block part of the street...let the actors concentrate...
The fans had a lot of respect and look the filming got done. They were quiet when they were told to be quiet and that's why they were aloud to stay unlike some other fans with different fandoms. So please look into things before you jump to conclusions ^^

I understand being a fan. I understand appreciating an actor's work. I understand finding an actor sexy. But I wish people would realize that these actors are working. Don't they think they could be distracting? Where is the self-awareness to know that a person having a throng of people screaming at him must be even a little off putting? I think it's so unfair the way that folks think they have ownership of actors, instead of givint them the sapce to create the work that they so enjoy as fans. I'm a HUGE Benedict fan but I would never impose on someone's work space like this throng of fans does.
I think since they were filming on a public street, they couldn't really do anything but cordon off the fans when they needed to film. I was there, and let me tell you it was amazing to watch them act and completely block us out when they were doing so. It was incredible!
After seeing this video, I better not EVER hear another crew in Vancouver whine to me about how hard they have it when theres 2-5 of us at a set EVER again.
The #Sherlock crew worked with 100s watching, locals here have it absurdly easy compared to this.
That was really awesome! You actually edited your recordings and you edited them in a wonderful and very entertaining way! You were also obviously a couple of people (or just two) and you got different angles on the same shots, that was really awesome too. You had a lot of really good shots, especially good close-ups of Ben and Martin. Good job! Thanks for sharing!
Read the comments before watching the video and a few people saying they were in London but not Sherlock fans at the time and missed this. I thought I couldn't be so unlucky as the only time I have been in London since 2007 was 20-26 August 2013. So I play the video....on 21 August 2013.....FML. are you serious? 😭😭😭😭 I wasn't even very far away. I only became a Sherlock fan last month and it's not like I came across the mob of fans or would have gone even if I had heard but it is gutting to know I was in London on this day. The one week I was there in more than a decade (I am from New Zealand)

Yeah, I totally understand your frustration too! Well if it makes you feel any better I actually went to London in February last year but I only discovered Sherlock _a couple of months later_ therefore I didn't go see the Sherlock Holmes museum / 221B Baker Street, because I still didn't know about it! ;_: A life full of missed opportunities. But you're right. If we want to experience things we've got to go to them and not wait for them to come to us! Hotels aren't cheap in London but I could go to a hostel instead. Or use couchsurfing.

I have watched the episodes quite a few times, it's called friendship. John and Sherlock have a really strong connection, not some silly romance (no offense to johnlock shippers) I would die inside if I thought my best friend killed himself, I'm sure anyone would. They love each other, but as friends, they've been through a lot together.
