me driving a 700HP PEHV hybrid car for years in china with 1000Nm torque i can say for sure the yaris is a banger. front gasoline engine with electric motors in the back is exact same setup as my car. but in addition to that i got 2 more front electric motors as well so even without gasoline engine (2.0L turbo) turned on i have massive all wheel drive performance and with that amazing offroad capability as well. love it. to your question: yes its the future. you can never go back after you had a high performance hybrid car.
The fact that they made it work with a gearbox to retain that feel is amazing. This offers leaps and bounds more driver engagement than a Tesla with no gears or a Porsche with a 2 speed electric transmission.

You gotta remember that the disappearance of the manual trans has nothing to do with EVs and has everything to do with American laziness. Manuals have been disappearing for years now and are only for car people that drive for fun. We are the minority.

This exactly. EV’s need to be offered with manual transmissions or a mode to switch through gears. CVT’s and the like just make you feel so disconnected from the car

Years? More like decades. Most hobbyist ev conversions stretching back to the 1970's ev boom have been manual trans cars.
There's a Toyota SERA here in Perth that's been converted to EV for many years, and it's a manual. I know of a VW Beetle that's also been converted to EV using a 96v forklift motor , and that's manual aswell.

I EV swapped an S10 pickup and retained the manual transmission. I am battery limited around 120kw to the motor. Love driving it here in the USA.

I got to drive more or less every type of car up until 2017 inc 100K Porsches etc & got to drive a few Prius’s, bmw I3 etc
The acceleration from standstill is effortless and haaard on the i3,
a mixture of this and an engine for higher Speeds would be ideal… kinda like the new E-HEV Hondas

A Tesla motor with sequential would be good. The torque is what really turns us on in a fast car! Electric with gears even better.

B series did sound great. My gsr B18c1 in my ef9 SiR hatchback, was a great drive a great car and loved the sound. But only with good headers and exhaust

Cool car. I personally think that to keep f.i classic cars on the road and not just stored in garages due to ever increasing emission laws, especially in Europe, this is the future. A while ago i saw this video of an classic widened 911 that was made electric and it was epic. Think it was on Larry Chen's YT.
I think Jay Leno did a spotlight for a company that does EV conversions for vintage cars. It was neat.

@@minni1094 Add it up... $25K for a clean blue '90's Civic, A Quaife is $15k, call it $30k for the motors, $10k for controllers and supporting electronics, that gets you to $80k, plus the cost of the drive system that connects the motors to the transmission, the wiring, the hundreds of parts that are going to nickel and dime you to death. Probably $100k all in just for parts... and that's ignoring the labor to actually build it... Yes, it really is that expensive.
