Here's Why Steve Really Quit Blue's Clues

- Steve Burns served as the host of Blue's Clues from its first episode in 1996 until he decided to quit six years later in 2002. As the beloved host of the children's show, Steve was the amiable dog-parent to Blue, a spotted dog with a penchant for leaving clues around their home. But after 100 episodes, Steve left for college and let his on-screen brother Joe take over. And while Donovan Patton's Joe was a serviceable host, people couldn't help but wonder about the real reason Steve Burns left Blue's Clues.
Bizarre rumors surfaced about drug abuse, death, or just simply wanting to follow his dreams of being a musician. And while he did go and form a band, the rest of the reports were untrue. So, exactly why did he leave Nickelodeon for greener pastures? Watch the video to learn why Steve quit Blue's Clues!

My daughter loved the show so did my 2 older grandkids, my other grandkids didn’t get to see Steve, he had left the show by then
Love blue s clue s
To make a long story short, steve was balding, and he decided to leave the show.
And so did his head

Right?! And the crazy thing is I watch Young Sheldon
So was I! LOL
Wait what
I never knew that, and now my inner child is crying tears of nostalgia & joy

This man was my childhood. I always loved his episodes and missed him when he left. But I'm glad to know that he is still well.

well i did not miss him. Please read this correctly. I Said I Did not miss him. i did not say i miss him i said i didnt miss him that much anymore because IT IS A PEEPEE SHOW IT IS SO SO SO TRASH THE MUSIC IS CHEEP AND CREEPY EVERYTHING IS UGLY THERE ALSO IS A PORTUGUESE HOST NAMED D....TE HE IS REALLY BAD AND HE IS TRASH KEVIN IS ALSO TRASH IF I MET ALL OF THE THREE HOST IN DIFFERENT LANGUEGES I WOULD THROW THEM IN THE TOILET AND EAT THERE BUTT
The fact that he returned to the show after so long is so perfect. His character in the show came full circle
Thankfully it wasn't anything negative that was the reason Steve left. It was his own decision

I remember watching Blue's Clues when I was a kid and when Steve left in 2002, I never saw the show again. I truly felt that since we all love Steve, he was like a brother to all of us. I never did watch Joe much, Steve will always be remembered when he hosted Blue's Clues in 1996. I'll never forget when I first watched Blue's Clues in 1997.
When I was young I hated Joe he was no where close to being as good as Steave
I saw a current episode and it is not the same! I miss Steve.
I watched him on Vhs tape but yes we will remember him
I watched Steve and Joe. But not a fan of the new update

as a person who loved, I mean *loved* blue's clues growing up. and someone who really struggles to accepting changes. steve leaving was awful for tiny me. and whenever I found out about blue's clues and you, I was slightly disappointed, how could they continue the show without steve??? and I just didn't watch it and avoided it as much as possible. whenever I was watching tv and eating dinner. it was on, so after all my time avoiding it, I decided to watch it. and honestly, it was good. I liked it, it definitely isn't a favorite because of josh. but it's obvious he has just as much passion steve did. and he is I have to say a wonderful singer.
I'm nearing my late 20s but damn man, seeing Burns involved with the new show and bringing the spirit of it to a whole new generation, knowing that he's involved in its production and has played an adult version of his character in multiple episodes is making me hold back a couple tears. Love that photo of all three hosts from shortest to tallest with Burns crouching in the back, they all look like they're having the time of their life, the new show just seems very heartwarming. Him starting to lose his hair at 29 has me a bit worried about myself, heh, but hey if that were me I would have just started wearing wigs and kept rolling with the show a bit longer. It's awesome he's had such a great career after the original show, and it always makes me happy seeing people just embrace their roots, so many children's performers get needlessly self-conscious and go way out of their way to distance themselves. Not this guy though, and I really, really respect him for that.
Damn blues gotta be old if he’s been around this show for 10+ years
@@lisabeckett7460 oh ok, I thought blue was boy cause the friend was pink. Well I had a look and the website said blue was age 2 (Human years) in the first episode and last time we saw her was 16th June 2020 so that would make her 23(Human Years), Which is very old for any dog breed the average age for any dog to make it 16 human years is a old dog so if she’s been around for 23 years (I’m counting all 3 shows since they’re all connected in terms of the timeline) bruh she’ll nearly be 200 in dog years.

No joke, I burst into tears when I watched Steve Goes to College.
As a child I kept waiting for him to return.....
He never did 😭
Oh I’ll never forget how sad my youngest daughter was when Steve left for college. I thought her heart would break.
I'm 28 and I remember watching this show staring Steve, then Joe alot when I was little.
We both same age
Same
starring* a lot*
Same. I'm also 28. I still preferred Steve over Joe though.
Same 🤘
In a way its wholesome knowing both Steve and Joe returned for cameos in the reboot series. Thats about as good to restart a series as it can get
Facts .
Who's here after Steve's message for fans?
0:26 this broke my heart :(
Me too, I remember that episode like it was yesterday. It was hard for me to get used to Joe because I thought he was an imposter back then. I also found it awkward how Steve hugged Blue in that scene when he was just hugging air.
Some say it’s just a KIDS show but no it’s so sad I may have not been born in the 90s or 2000s but I still wish he was still on the show 😭
Pow pow... 🥺
Pow pow :((

Man I remember that episode of Young Sheldon but I had no idea that was Steve from Blue Clues at the time man has he changed so much
Same, I didn’t even recognized him
Same!
Steve may have left the show, but at least he made an effort to make kids smile while it lasted
All three hosts of the Blue's Clues get along and made an episode together.
Now that's something you don't see in most TV shows.
Not gonna lie.....I was crushing on Steve as a new mom in the 90's.
😂

ME TOO!
bruh
An inspiring lad, no doubt.
"Moving on" is only natural, but the passion he had, as well as the will to reappear, much later, in a show which in a sense, molded him, is truly an inspiring tale. For tonight, I think I shall indulge myself, with Steve Burns' musical endeavors, for a source of inspiration, whilst working~
That’s awesome that he went back to Blues clues even just to be a guest. How cute. Glad he is doing ok. I remember those rumors that he died back then- horrible.
Takes me back when I saw those old clips of him being on the show🥺. Good luck Steve!
Watching this after watching Steve's latest catch up video in September 2021
The last time I saw him on TV he was being drenched in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. He looked so sad and cold. We felt real bad for him. Glad to see he is doing well!
My son, now 27, he loved Blues Clues.
We were babies to even understand wow !! Very touching
Steve Burns (according to Behind the Clues: 10 Years with Blue): I knew I wasn't going to be doing children's television all my life. Mostly because I refused to lose my hair on a kids TV show and it was happening fast.
The video covered that
@@Raidei Yeah.
Steve is the man that made my childhood better when needed. When I heard about his last episode I went to watch it and I cried for a whole month.
Just watched the whole video of him saying goodbye I still dropped a tear lmao idk why it hits to hard
Heart warming he never gave up seeing blue this was my childhood never though he would direct a show
My childhood was abruptly changed when I no longer saw Steve. I never saw the farewell episode. I never knew until right now. But it was so sad to see him no more.
Of course Steve still has a special connection with Blue 💖💗 their friendship and memories in that drawing house cannot be forgotten that easily.
I was born in the same year Blue's Clues made its debut and me and the original show are gonna be 25 this year. 😁
This show inspired me to be a cartoonist. Finding and drawing the clues was my favorite part of the show, and it still is! When I was little, I used to have my mom draw the clues. I may not watch Blue's Clues so much anymore, but Steve, Blue and everyone else will always be family to me. 😊
Please no mean comments ☺️
To me, Blue's Clues will always be the #1 kids' show! 😃
Who’s here after he gave that amazing, heartwarming, message?
The series made me what I am today. We already know why Steve left the show, but out of all of the seasons of Blue's Clues, I consider the first four seasons the golden age of the series. The Joe era, while not terrible, is more childish.
Joe is an 8.5/10 and Steve was a 10/10. They were smart trying not to replace Steve with a new actor and giving a new character instead.
Blues Clues was my childhood, I thank Steve for it
Steve is part of my childhood life and will never ever forget it. 🙏🙏🙏❤️
😭😭😭 Can't stop crying after watching his video.
We need you back, Steve.
At the time I found out Joe would be taking Steve’s place, I was going to miss Steve, but I accepted it soon enough, and I’m glad he still has a good amount to do with the show nowadays.
Even though I wasn’t alive when he was doing the show but still watched his episodes all the time 😢 I was born 2007 and still watched it. It was one of my favorite shows
I can remember seeing Blues Clues still airing in my senior year of High School back in 2006. I was still glad to watch it then too
Lol, that was so weird when Steve hugged Blue at 0:29. Just broke the forth wall at all levels.
Wow you have no clue what that term means. Every time Steve talked to you he was breaking the fourth wall
He just put a video out saying we are all still friends and he's proud of us
Not going to lie the new blues clues never feel the same for me but that make it fun to go relive my childhood with my siblings
Thank you so much for all the likes this is my most liked comment ever thank you to those people that liked
He is the last of the wholesome legends that once existed. There was Robin Williams, Bob Ross, Fred Rogers, and Stefán Karl Stefánsson (Robbie Rotten). Steve Burns, please live on so more generations can see you. You are the last of our childhoods. Please don't leave...
Unfortunately, he is going to leave us one day so we'll just have to enjoy him for as long as we can.
i use to watch blues clues all the time as a kid steve burns was a great host on the show
what ruined nick jr for u
here are Steve's lines before he left I'm gonna miss you too I'll never forget how you helped me find all those clues you really are so smart
I had already stopped watching when Steve left. I loved the show as a child and always looked forward to watching it. I loved Steve and Blue ❤💙
I remember when he left I never watched another episode again!! I remember feeling so betrayed and I missed steve so much this is so cool to see him come back with an update
This guy made up such a big part of my childhood. He’s such a good guy and I hope that he continues to do great things.

NOOOO WHY IS THIS SO SAD
Steve and joe is my childhood from blue clues. I do miss Steve the most than joe but I came to like joe when Steve left. Once I’m grown up, I’m not an fond of the new blue clues but once I saw Steve and joe I teared up, I’m just happy the new generation will be able to watch the newer blue clues and see how good the show to them like back in the old days for us, and seeing Steve and joe the original cast of blue clue’s.
I love Steve! As a kid I loved him sooo much.. I did miss him when he went away, but personally I think Joe was the perfect person to continue with Blue. Joe is my favorite, but both are awesome!
Awww I never knew he did a pop up on the new blues clues 😭❤
That makes me feel so much better with the recent Blues Clues series i thought Steve would leave Blue behind but it looks like he has come full circle. blue still doesnt look the same with the CGI element to her but it looks like Blue is happy whenever Steve is around.
Who's here after watching Steve's msg for the 25th anniversary? 🥺🥺 The closure I didn't think,I needed. 🥺
God I miss this dude so much he was my childhood
Steve was hilarious! I remember him so much.
His speech made me tear up
As a kid i loved this show.
I started watching at the age of 4.
But than my parents got a new tv-box.
And that new box didnt contain nickelodeon or nickjunior.
I couldn't watching those series for such a long time.
Than i got 14 and my parents finaly got a new tv-box with nickelodeon and nickjunior.
I know i was to old to see the show but i just wanted to see him one more time before it was done.
Insted of the blue clues i know and remember, i got someone compleetly difrrent i didnt recognize.
I'll never forget him for what he was in my childhood.
I wish i could go back.
They were my childhood! I miss him
Steve is a blessing human I’m an adult from the era of his episodes and i can be more than proud that I had him as a tv host 💜 I hope he sees this and remembers what he has taught and saved a lot of us get that isolation shit from him 🤣💯 he isolated with his bag lesson learned we need to continue to take notes apparently
Steve was my favorite! Seeing him leave was such an expresso depresso time, but Joe did great as well. I'm happy to hear Steve went on and did some great things for himself. I always figured he actually did go to college lol
I am so glad to see him back
Steve coming back is a genuine surprised I didn't think was true until now! I'm glad he's happy though that's the most important thing
this was so much more wholesome than i'd expected. i'm glad.
It DO NOT take 25 years to go to college Steve 😡🥺
This is enough to make a grown man cry...
Believe it or not but I met the man. He came to my sister's school last year as a guess speaker and gave everyone of blue plush with a paw print sticker. And when I say this I mean it. He is one of the nicest people I've ever met. When we met him he told us about how when doing blues clues he was going through some tuff health stuff and that he felt that he kept going with blues clues he was just gonna get worse. He still loves the franchise and he seemes to be doing better.
This show was my childhood, i miss those days.
steve is a sweet soul, but honestly I liked how the show looked back in the 90's and early 2000's, it looks way to animated now and kids who where born in the late 2000's won't experience the true magic of blues clues.
3:59 awww that just made tears stream down my face and i wasn't expecting it to
So glad to see that Steve is doing well in life and still has positive connections to Blues Clues
I started noticing my hair is thinning when i was 21. I panicked and started taking care of my hair. Using all sorts of medication and a diet that helps hair loss reduction.
I’m in my 40’s and still have hair albeit thin. But married and two kids, i really don’t care about it anymore.
Who’s here after watching Steve’s video

As a kid, when I heard that Steve was going to college I didnt really understand what it really meant back then but I know it means that I wont be able to see him again. I suffered severe anxious attachment when I was young so I wasnt able to continue watching blues clues without steve.... thank you steve for the closure I didnt know I needed!! ~♡
Steve was my favorite host in the whole series! Even after he left, I still held on to those Blue’s Clues tapes that featured him as the host just for childhood memories!
I just want to acknowledge the writer for not traumatizing the viewers (kids like me) with the sudden change of host. OH NO I'M STARTING TO CRY AGAIN 😭😭😭
I coulda told ya years ago he quit because he was balding. It's not "new" news. Either way it was still sad to see him go, but i definitely don't blame him for making the choice he did. As long as he is happy with where he is in life now i will always be grateful that Steve gave me a reason to smile as a kid.
I remember when I first watched this show about 8 years ago. I was around 3 years old, and I loved all the characters. It was kind of sad to see Steve move on, but he had other things to worry about. It's all good in the end. :D
I love that Steve is one of those actors that actually cherishes his fans
Huh. I was just talking to my mom about Blues Clues yesterday and wondering where the original guy went..my phone must be listening 0.0
This brings back tons of memories as a 18 year old now in college I’m gonna miss the good old days
STEVE!!!! *hugs* I am so glad he didn't leave for a bad reason. I honestly was above the age range for Blue's clues but I enjoyed it occasionally with a friend and was rather sad to hear he left the show. Rapid hair loss, especially so young is a bit worrying but it's better then "he became a druggie" and I'm happy to know he's involved with the show's revival =)
I haven't watched Blue's Clues in nearly 20 years, but seeing Steve hug Blue goodbye almost instantly brought tears to my eyes.
I hope he's found his happiness as I found mine when I was sitting calmly when watching the show
Steve was meant to do blues clues-a natural! Irreplaceable. The original blue's clues are the ones worth watching!
This video just served up good vibes for us 90's kids
We love and miss you!!! You made me smile everyday and made my childhood amazing
