This is a good song. Olly is a young, upcoming and fine artist. A talented actor. He starred recently in a retrospective drama about HIV called It’s a Sin. It was very good, he was great. Has had a few big hits. Brave move for him. I hope it works for him, but fear maybe not.
Love that you can see his talent. Share your worries. I do think that UK last year was simply thin…

The song is good but lacks the big wow moment. Maybe that comes with the live, maybe not, we'll see. At this point I think it's more suited for radio play than competing for the win, which is also ok.

I don’t know if you’re aware but Olly is the vocalist from the band Years and Years (King being their biggest hit around 10 years ago). So there was quite a lot of hype when we found out he was representing UK. I think the majority have been left a little underwhelmed. I still think it’s nice, but is safer than I expected. I thought we’d get either something really catchy or really edgy and this has landed somewhere in the middle

Ohh thanks for the info! Yeh I get what you’re saying. It’s definitely no spaceman!
I don’t think it’ll come last this year though, but it is quite underwhelming.

Good tune, agree that it might not work as well live tho, Vesuvius by Sufjan Stevens

Is there going to be a key change? Probably not - we don't do that anymore in the 21st century. HA!
I'm surprised Olly hasn't made more of an effort, it's almost as if he doesn't want to win.

For the most part I agree with your analysis; nice radio-song, production, etc.. But than; you have never heard this guy sing Live, let alone this song ... Per usual his vocals are all over the place when he sings Live (Seen him 4 times now); wavering badly, strained, no volume, no vibrato. But when he attempted to sing this Live (on 4 occasions) he was never able to hit those high, final notes on pitch. They were off by like (at least!) a semitone. He did himself no favor at all by writing this song in this key. He relies to heavily on studio-production and auto-tune. If he would have sung this in a normal baritone (which he basically is) the result would have been far more favorable. That is my verdict. Thanks for your nice video!

I liked the catchyness of the song in live but yes, he kind of give nothing in live... Wich is sad. But yes, the studio version is really good

It's such a shame! He has better songs and is good live.
For me it sounds like an Ace of Base song mashed up with "it's my life" by Bon Jovi... Sorry!

@@sebastian0107you're right actually. As a solo artist. I was thinking of him in Years+Years.
Solo you're right (I've now seen more of the live performances).
I agree: he chose a song in a voice range that's not his normal one.

@@MariaCarabin Not his finest hour, sadly. Now that he entered ESC he's under a gigantic microscope. The whole world is watching for artists to slip ever-so-slightly, and they're not all hardcore, forgiving fans.
I do like Olly's songwriting-skills and his albums, but his concerts were less thrilling.
This 'case' reminded me of a last years entry; a Danish kid (forgot-his-name) who was sort of a TikTok-Hype. He had a nice song, looked the part, but was so dependent on studio-engineering and Auto-Tune, that he failed to deliver Live. May this be a lesson to young, aspiring artists.
(Olly will bounce back; hopefully 3 to 5 tones lower!)

@@sebastian0107 You mean Reiley? I loved that he was a DIY Tik Tok star, recording from the Faroe Island, making his own sets and costumes, supported by his family. I mean: how cool is that!
And he struggled so much with his Danish when he was televised early on... and he was so young. I felt for him. He looked really lost at times in the ESC Footage...
But yeah, you have to sing live in the ESC. And I understand why he was a NQ.
