  • Watch the video to learn why the bar run by Serena and her husband Gianluca is so special. Guess where this bar/café is.
    We have known Serena and Gianluca for nearly twenty years since they started their venture and it is our favourite bar in the area but also a pit stop between Lucca and Bagni di Lucca.
    Italians love to have their breakfast in a bar and often frequent the same bar years after year. In this video we discuss how Italians order their breakfast and what is available in the café. A bar is a great place to make friends and practice your Italian.
    Serena and Gianluca's café also serves great and (big) lunches for the local workforce. They employ a cook and a baker who makes fresh bread, pizza, focaccia and tarts everyday.
    Join us and discover the secrets of an Italian coffee and local bars.
    We love this café but we are not sponsored by them.

    As someone who lives in Italy, your videos are absolutely fabulous. Your tips are great but the way you highlight things which seem commonplace but are actually the things people never tell you is a genuine service to visitors from abroad. Keep up the great work. I'm working my way through your content and find it a real pleasure. Thank you!

    Probably my favorite line in this video is when Enzo says “would you say coffee is the best time of the day?” And then he smiles.

    Since I went off coffee some years ago, and settled for tea, I occasionally drink it as medicine. It's always black , made by someone else and usually filtered. I noticed on the cake counter what looked to be a budino (if that's the local term as I think its origin is Florentine) which were my favourite cakes when I lived in Tuscany. Will now definitely call in at the garage for more than petrol so thanks for the alert.

    • @PiazzaTalkLucca
      @PiazzaTalkLucca  Před rokem

      You do have sharp eyes, do you mean the budino di riso? We have confess not one of our favourites! I think we will all agree on the lasagna if you try it. Coffee now seem to be becoming a super food as it has been proven to be the elixir of life so we know drink it with no sense of guilt.

      @@PiazzaTalkLucca Yes 'de riso'. When made with care and top ingredients .... wunderbar. We are not going to agree on Italian cakes although I would eat the curranty bun that Celia chose - all other cakes in Italy are beyond the pale for me. I must start drinking coffee though as you are right - it is supposed to be good for one ... until 10 years from now when someone proves otherwise.

      Not for breakfast but perhaps pastiera and sfogliatella (riccia or frolla) when you lived in Naples? And what about Sicilian cannoli to name just a few?

      Real community still exists in our area of Bagni di Lucca, and I hope that Lucca realizes it needs to think to preserve it. I so agree that It is families like this that make going to the bar and eating in country restaurants such a pleasure.

    Great video. With the mention of the fresh ground polenta, would it be possible to do a polenta recipe in a future video? It seems to be a large part of Italian cuisine that's overlooked in America.

    • @PiazzaTalkLucca
      @PiazzaTalkLucca  Před rokem +1

      In the video on Sunday, Claudio a local cook says very few people still know and do our local farinata, Gianluca's recipe is different, made with chestnut flour and red wine, even though he comes from the same village. So some recipe collecting and tasting to do in the winter. Farinata isn't part of Enzo's tradition. This I think you will agree is the fun of Italian cooking. Does your family have a version?
