- I had to replace the Downstream O2 Sensor on my 1998 Chevy Silverado. Simple process and a lot cheaper than taking it to the shop. This process is also the same if the Upstream O2 Sensor is throwing a code as well.

Yes thank you for unplugging your battery. I had a bad iac in my obs. Changed it, same issues. Then a guy told me to unplug my battery for 20 mins so it Drains the hole system
Taking the negative off these trucks does wonders for code clearing.
Nice vid! Did you have to lift the truck a bit or just crawl underneath. My 96 still has the originals and have to change all 4.
I drove it up on ramps so that I was able to catch the video a little better but honestly, I could have just crawled under there and changed it without lifting it.
When I do O2 sensors on my truck, or anything with an electronic connection for that matter, I always disconnect the battery first. This allows for ample time to "reset" the electrical system and also ensures there is no power to the wires and other components I am working with. These old systems can be picky and it is easy to blow a fuse or short something out.
That's a good idea as well. This component is just plug and play so once its installed if you just unplug the negative for 10-15 mins its enough time to clear everything out.
I love the "they call for 30lbs , I am just going to tighten the 💩 out of it 😂😂." 30 is about 1/3 of what you did. Just past tight
Still should drive the truck before registers will reset. Check engine light may or may not come back on.
OK but I have 2 downstream and at the part store they ask me if I want right or left, which one is yours?
The O2 sensor I changed is technically on the left. I was unaware that they made OBS's with 2 dowstream O2 sensors.
Dude please help me out. At 2:47 that connector at the top left. What does the other end of that connector look like? I think I didn't plug my downstream 02 sensor in after I swapped motors because I have an unplugged two pin connector up next to my coil packs and alternator and I'm thinking that it's just not plugged in.
Here's a link to what it looks like for reference. I'm not sure what that 2 pin connector could be for as there are a couple plugs that are 2 pin depending on what motor you swapped in. The one up by the engine is a 4 prong. Although, it is possible for you to have a connector that has 2 pin. If that's the case it's going to be red and blue. Hopefully that helps!

@@bossadamsgarage What does the 4 pin connector go to? I’m getting code p0141 on my 2000 chevy Impala. The upstream sensor is plugged in but I can’t find the other end of the downstream sensor.
Just curious why my parts dealer told me $30.00 for the front, and $300 for the rear? I also have a 98' silverado.
I'm not sure but it sounds like their trying to rip you off. Have you checked out rock auto? I've almost started exclusively buying from them because some of these auto parts stores want a fortune now.

What about a 1993? I was only able to find one on the driver's side manifold.
Square dash OBS trucks only have 1 O2 sensor near drive side exhaust manifold

I got same truck I’m loosing power everytime I drive it uphill
Mine was doing the same thing. I had the transmission rebuilt with heavier duty clutches and disks. Then I replaced the fuel pump and the fuel filter. I believe the fuel pump was my problem. It had never been replaced so I believe it was on it's way out which caused the engine to starve for fuel.
@@bossadamsgarage I replaced all my spark plugs, high tension wire, coil, mass airflow sensor, I check them 02 sensor as well and my fuel filter. You might be right bc they said they’d never change that yet.
You did more like 80 pounds . 😅
