I have a 1997 2500 with 348,000 miles. Original engine and no leaks. Love my truck.
269k good to hear!!!
My ol'e girl just celebrated 32 years of ownership by ME. Bought her new in 1990, 350 tbi, k1500,and has turned the odo to the tune of 471,400 miles still on the oe 350. Oh and she's still doing our daily driving and weekend travels. 👊👊🤙🤙👍👍✌✌
Is your transmission, transfer case, and front/rear differentials original?
@@u.d.novthu2k204 Trans was replaced at 300k,rear diff was just replaced at 480k( owner got to abusive in soft sand). Engine, front diff, and transfer case still oe. ODO is currently at 484,307 mi.✌️✌️
@@bowtie-man Not bad!
@@u.d.novthu2k204 Yeah I don't think she's done too bad considering the age and mileage. She's still our daily driver and 9 times out of 10 she's our road trip vehicle of choice. ✌️✌️
I have a 1997 k1500 Silverado 4wd, with the 5.7L V8. I am the original owner, it has 190k miles on it. I have taken very good care of my truck. I get people all the time telling me "That's a good looking truck, you wanna sell it?" Nope, never selling it. This truck has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. It has had a transmission repair from towing a large boat for many years, and a fuel system replacement. Otherwise, there is not a thing wrong with this truck. Only wish the built vehicles now like they used to.
Old Chevy employees who designed those are like, "what were we thinkin!?" Making them that long lasting, Jesus christ.
💀💀💀
Well the new ones figure it out. Build em for obsolescence. Lol. My 99 Sierra keeps on rocking and a rollin.
I think the people who are with Chevy now assassinated them and now have a strict policy of cars that shouldn't last 7 years.
Gm needs to build this exact truck model for its 50th birthday!! I’d definitely buy

HAHAHAHA... I have a 1993 and I sold my 1993 Eddy Bauer. I’ve been sick about it since I sold it. Watching this video just made me a thousand times sicker. The GMC Eddy Bauer is actually rare. I’m ready to throw up. Now I hate that I watched this video.
@@TimeToBeKind no shit eh, I didnt know GMC worked with Eddie Bauer. I assume your talking about the GMC suburban. I got a 97 yukon
@@cherch. They are great trucks. I got a 93 cheyenne reg cab 4x4. In real good shape. i just need to find a new tailgate because some @sshole stolen it when I was inside a store.
I own two.... and now I want another lol
I actually wanna go but my old one back which was a z71 1998 so I most likely will
I have had my 1996 18 years now. 265, 320 miles on it. Still going strong.
Like a rock.
Yeah I have the 97 mines got course 350k runs like a champ no leaks and well still burn the tires
@@jacaughron55 I have a 97 also. I am often asked if I would consider selling. I have lived with that truck for 22 years, and will keep it until it cannot be repaired.
My 94 at 206k is just getting broken in
I have one also a 1998 and a 2018 but I like driving the 98 more lol
best truck ever made period
This guy is right about this truck, I know I've had mine for 25 years.
Inherited a 96 Z71 K1500 Silverado from my father. In the process of restoring it right now, it's on its way to being a damn beautiful truck. Only at around 119k miles right now.
Sing it, bra. I have a 97 suburban and a 98 k1500. Totally love 'em, especially that they don't have hundreds of sensors wired through every inch of the body and drivetrain. Big wide seats, super comfy, and still looks great 25 years later. Pro tip: you can hide a compact 9mm in that overhead CD holder dealie.
97 k1500 just broke in the engine at 125k and not a drop of oil starts everytime plenty of balls i do all my maintenance bought it from the original owner. And I plan to be the last owner
I have a 95 2 door one owner just hit 90000 miles. I love it. I am putting it back for my oldest son. He is 11
I bought my 97 C1500 in 99 and want to keep it until I die. That might be another 25 years, but i think it'll make it.
98 K1500 260k, showing the age but I planned on it being a rebuild anyways. It would be nice to replace and rework the true dual system that the previous owner installed. It was beat up pretty good by the previous owner but it's still snarling with the kick to back it.
dam skippy brother
I just bought mine from my uncle And man am i exited to get my license
Just remember if you take care of your truck it will take care of you.👍
I've got a 95 Tahoe pretty much the same drivetrain as this truck I got it from my Granddad and I don't think I'll ever sell it. Its just so reliable and and easy to work on
I'm picking up a 1994 suburban this weekend. 130000 miles and 30 years old. I have a disabled daughter and I need a big vehicle to put her adaptive seating in and haul all of her equipment. I'm stoked.
I own a '95 K1500 with the GM tow package and optional door remote and I love it! It all still works, 356,453 miles later :D No oil burning either!
Oil change are life to our trucks
I feel like the pre vortec motors are better than the 96-99
i have a 95 silverado fucker runs like a beast 240k miles and haven't needed to spend money on the motor at all yet
also its a 5.7 350, single cab short bed
95 as well here, 296k and going up daily, drives great.
first 3 minutes and already made fun of ford, you got me subscribed
Lol, me too.
My 96 C1500 Silverado 4.3L has 400k on the original engine/transmission and it still runs and shifts silky smooth. Have had it since 30k. Tail lights can be a problem until you come across a good circuit board set. And at this age, its the wiring that's starting to have problems. Keep changing the oil/transmission fluid and don't beat the crap out of your truck and your golden.
I’m a Mopar guy, I put 500k miles on the same year dodge with the 5.9 magnum v8. These trucks will always have a place in my heart. I’ll probably always have one of these Chevys around me. Like you said, easiest truc ever to work on. And they are
Not only are these trucks super reliable but in pure looks and aesthetics these trucks are so beautiful
Hi from New Zealand. I just brought one imported from the US earlier this year. Absolutely love my 97 C1500. Works like a dream and I get alot of looks from my fellow right hand driving kiwis haha
Great review ✌️
Also from NZ, can't beat these trucks, I have a 96 C1500 with the 350. Great engine.
Just picked up a one owner 1995 K2500 Extended cab- Silverado package with 115K on the clock. Garage queen. While it doesn't have the Vortec Heads, I know the TBI 350s run forever too. Very excited about it.
This review is the most accurate description of my truck I've seen yet! 😆
I've got a Black '98 C/K 1500 Vortec V6, 2WD 3 Door Extended Cab. It's the most reliable piece of garbage I've ever driven in! I honestly want to fully restore it just because of how good of a model it is.

Just bought a '95 Sierra C2500 with 522,300 kms for 370$ in an auction. Thing purrs like a kitten at idle, and roars like a lion when I step on the gas.
Totally agree. These trucks last forever
I've got a 1996 Chevy Silverado 5.0 408000 miles on it original motor wouldn't trade it for nothing the world I have replace a transmission. Ive been driving this truck for 16 years
Curious at what mileage was the tranny replaced?
@@u.d.novthu2k204mine was replaced at 209k. 4x4 96 cost me 1800$ for a nice built rebuild shifts like a brand new truck now
I bought a 97 C1500 with bad head gaskets for $100. I'm an auto tech school graduate and working on a 350 even for a novice diy mechanic is like playing with Legos. I've had it 5 years now and I'll never let it go. 260k and still going strong. The vortec powered Silverado will never truly be replaceable even in modern traffic.
I have a 96 Silverado, it has 550K miles and still going strong, original motor, oil changed every 4-5k, rebuilt trans at about 380k. super easy to work on. I purchased it in 2008 from original owner friend for $2500 (deal back then) with around 140k. I commuted 1000 miles a week in it for the better part of a decade in Los Angeles traffic, it has a ton of power even loaded with a lot of weight or in my case tools. I don't drive it to work any more but its the best truck iv'e ever had, in fact I upgraded to a new Silverado, same model but over 20 years newer. I still have the old truck, been thinking about passing her on though. I know it in and out and can fix its problems myself. Its always the same things, alternator, breaks, rotors, radiator, battery or O2 sensors so it can pass smog bit I figures out I could reset the battery and drive it a hundred miles or so and the engine light will stay off. I live at 3500 feet above sea level and I suspect driving daily to sea level effects that somehow.
Just think about it though, mine has over 550,000 THOUSAND miles on the original motor which still is good, doesn't burn oil and has good oil pressure, doesn't smoke and passes smog. It needs some love but other then a few small things its been real good.
550,000. Good Lord!
I don't have the pickup version but the SUV version. I own a black 1996 2500 4x4 Suburban SLT with the 7.4L 454 connected to a 4l80e trans and love it. Really reliable and easy to work on. This platform is a reliable workhorse while looking good doing it. It has 118k on it and I keep it clean inside and out. I keep it in the garage because every time it's in the driveway I get several people coming to my door asking if I want to sell it. I also have a 2004 1500 Suburban 4x4 with the 5.3L and a 4l60e trans with 206k on it and is still running very strong with all original drive train still in it. I love them both and don't think I will ever sell or get rid of them. I plan on passing them on to my boys later when they have their families.
Will never get rid of mine!!!
98 k1500 v6 with 320k on her

Super clean . Best trucks compared to even today's 50,000 cost of new
100k 3 years later 😢
I have a 95 Chevy c1500 extended cab step side and I love it ! Wouldn’t sell it or trade it for anything
Hold on to that truck! There are harder to find these days. I also have a 95 k1500 ext cab, 4x4 with the 350 5.7 motor. Best of all it’s a manual transmission. Love this truck!
I still have my 95 Chevy C1500 Cheyenne I drove in high school. Almost 20 years ago, still running strong
I was able to buy a 94 Silverado for 2k... that’s all no catch. I’ve had it for like half a year now no issues besides an antifreeze leak which I already fixed. Getting it painted now. These trucks are the best
I have a ‘97 K1500, 5.7/4L60E, Extended cab, Z71 package. The truck has 275k miles and has only had one transmission rebuild. Everything on it is solid except the drivers side cab corner. My plan is to replace it with a new daily driver soon and start restoration on it. This truck has never failed on me, and starts every time I turn the key. They’re solid trucks!
You said the engines are great "just don't ask it to do what it's not meant to do".
I have a 94 C1500 Silverado I bought from my father in law. Stock it came with the 4.3L with the TBI. With a V6, rear wheel drive and stock leaf springs he cut a hole in the bed and welded in a hitch for a gooseneck which he used to haul a horse trailer full of donkeys, goats, generators and all sorts of heavy loads. The leaf springs would be maxed out and he would have it just screaming down the road hauling that trailer. Never a lot of maintenance, put 15 inch wheels with cheap Futura tires on it. That truck still did it's job, drove like a dream. Only major fix was he had the transmission rebuilt about 7 years ago. By the time I had it that motor was well on it's way out but still got me around just fine. Needed oil every week and the brake pads on the front were non-existent to the point of the metal part eating the rotor away. It got me around until I left for boot camp and left it with a friend. When she finally gave out was the day his wife couldn't get it up a hill without flooring it. He got a 350 for it and did the motor swap. Afterwards he took the 4.3 apart and found that almost all the piston rings in number 3 cylinder we're gone and had caused long, Wolverine type scratches down the cylinder wall. Other pistons were missing pieces of rings and they could be found in the pan.
I just think it's remarkable how that engine could be so abused and yet it would still run day in and day out. I will always love these trucks and the small block Chevy.
I'm happy to say now that truck has brand new suspension and brakes. A now carbureted 350 and an easier life getting me back and forth to work each day. Best vehicle I have ever owned.
Long live the Small Block Chevy.
Nice Video, I own a 96 and with all the problems still beats a huge azz truck note.
Mines a 96 Silverado ex cab damn good truck 308 rear gear and cruss at at 75 and only tacks 2000 rpms 158000 runs great
My family has had our 98 c1500 since I was a toddler. Its was my dad's (he bought it in 2005) and became my first vehicle once I got my license. I still have it and will never get rid of it. Still running strong 💪

I got a 97 5.7 and it's the only truck I ever want to own, bought when I was 16 for $2,500 outright and no payments. I'm 20 now and still love it, got a new transmission, radiator and hoses, exhaust. I plan on getting a CA intake and American Thunder 10 or Magnaflow exhaust soon
I have a 93 chevy C1500 4.3 with 320,000 miles! Like the old Bob seger song......"like a rock" Back in the 90s Chevy trucks were "the heartbeat of America" Not so much anymore.
I still have my dad's 1998 Silverado with the 305 engine. It's bright red with only 136K original miles and runs like a dream.
I have a 96 Sierra 1500 with over 200,000 + and been driving it 20 + years! I appreciate those of you that share video’s for us that don’t want to pay outrageous mechanic prices to fix something we can do ourselves! Thank You!

This is hilarious, the best Chevy truck you can buy in 2023 is a 1996-1998 Chevy LOL
The 350 small block was the best engine for CHEVY
I drive my 93 Sierra c1500 everyday to work. My grandfather bought it yr before he died and willed it to me in 2002 when I was 5. It sat in yard till 2020. Only major work ever done was transmission and fuel pump. Still has original paint, only one rust stop on roof and people in my town always stop me ask to buy it or look at it. I love it and want another.
A mechanic at my regular shop offered to buy my 1990 Scottsdale five speed just after i got it. That’s a good sign.
I ask every single person I see in their obs is it for sale and the answer is No. People ask me if mine is for sale the answer is No every single time.
Just bought a 98 gmc 5.7 last week. Had to move to our new house, and even without a tailgate atm (previous owner is bringing it Saturday) this thing is great. Just used straps and moved alot of stuff, even towed a trailer with it. It has definitely served me well in the time ive had it.

Love the video man awesome review. I have a 98 k 1500 had it for 5 years now been great she just turned 265000 miles. Just keeps on trucking only problem I have is the distributor caps keep going out or cracking. I did replace the trans at 223000 miles not bad I think. I lifted it 2 years ago replace all the steering and balljoints with life time ac Delco parts. Even with the lift still have not had a promise after 2 years with 35 inch tires. Today your Silverado can top out in the $10,000+ range. Prices have really gone up which is a testament to their Quality and Reliability. I've owned 14 in total over the years and currently have a '99 C2500 Classic (OBS GMT400) SCLB w/350, 4L80E backed by 3.73 12 bolt rear end and that brings us to my baby, the '95 C3500 Single Cab Long Bed Dually with the 454 7.4, NV4500 5 speed manual with granny first and overdrive 5th backed by a 14 bolt with 4.10 gearing and only 78,000 original miles. Gotta love these OBS trucks! Cheers Monkey. Zip~
The OBS and First Gen Silverado's are probably the best beater truck you can get that you ain't gotta worry bout tearing up. The formers a little easier to work on and fucks aesthetically, but the latter has better gas mileage and is a better truck in most respects.
Agree, these old trucks, if kept up are great vehicles for work and easy for the DIYers who love to work on vehicles. Simple mechanicals, only one computer to control the engine fuel delivery, for the most part nice interiors, and the best part: hugely available parts in the junk yards for almost anything that needs replacement. The aftermarket is still strong for any upgrades needed for this generation of GM truck. And, they don't look outdated in style or looks, IMO.
Absolutely true 👍.....I love my truck....Great review
My dad has a 94’ Sierra 1500 first owner, 200k miles and that truck never dies. These trucks are still running you see them so often here in Los Angeles still being used for work.
Great truck, simple & easy to work on.
Can't kill it. Won't die.
I have to agree I own a 94 and 96 Silverado, bought my granddaughter a 95 Silverado. Parts are easy to find and I love the pick and pull yards. They just run and run, great trucks.
Great video buying one of these tomorrow to cam

me too amazing truck
Love my 94 with the 5.7 TBI, 206k miles and still going without issues
Have owned my 96 K1500 for eight years. 294k on the clock. I agree with most of this video. Have NOT had as much of a light problem, but for 27 years old, maintenance has been easy on the wallet. If you need to change the steering box, be prepared to do it two or three times to get a good one. Hint, buy a remanufactured one, not rebuilt one. Do wish I had the electric seats and the third door option. But, it is mostly the dog in the back seat, and he doesn't complain.
Good vid dude, I love my 97. Worse things about them is those damn flimsy door handles and the 350 foot turn radius.
I have a 98 and that turn radius is definetily the worst thing about it.
great feedback - was looking at some rangers, but now will consider upgrading a bit to something like this. looking for simple builds with high reliability (but you're right, not a lot of examples available out there for sale - people seem to hold on to these)

Great video. I just bought a '98 Silverado 4.3 V6. I've been fixing it up (floors, brakes, etc.), and it has been pretty simple. Thanks
I would have to agree with you, the older chevy trucks are amazing. I’m in my early 20s now and I bought my first truck at 17 it was a 2000 Chevy 1500 z71 4x4 with the 5.3 v8 motor I love that truck I’d buy another in a heart beat if I could find one with little to no rust. But since then I’ve upgraded to the 2007-2013 model Silverado’s. They are also pretty nice trucks but the just feel a little cheap but I’m a Chevy guy I love my Chevy trucks 😎👍
Between my dad and I we’ve had 4. 3 Silverado’s and 1 w/t. 3 were stock 5.7 trucks, only one of which has been rebuilt in to a 383 (just because of a want for a little more power) and one having a 5.0. Each one has served us amazing and have been great trucks.
I just had my 5.7L rebuilt with a longer stroke crankshaft to make it a 383, but I’m not feeling any increase in power or torque. Did you do anything else to the ecm or intake system on your 383 to make it create more power?
@@davidmorris2234 all it has done to it that I know of is larger bore and stroke, aluminum intake and long tube headers. And I put a k&n filter and roller tip rockers on it. It doesn’t really make any significant more power
@@clayj2386 thanks for your reply. I’m looking for a local dynamometer to see what my HP and Torque numbers are because I don’t think I’m even getting the factory stock 5.7L power or torque. Plus I’m looking for any other modifications that I can do to max out my towing ability
My frist truck was the 94 GMC 4.3 LOVED IT. 97 chevy Cheyenne same 4.3 now im on to my 98 chevy silverado 4+4 5.7 holy crap its a beast can't get enough of these trucks and I've never paid more than $800 for them have to say your spot on with them great job on the video im from Vancouver Island Canada these trucks are everywhere keep rocking bro

Hell yeah like a rock!
Great video. I have a 1998 GMC CK 1500 with 317k miles on her. Yes those darn tail lamps! Its super frustrating to be driving with all your lights working and then all of a sudden your directional bulb on the tailight goes out. Luckily, I have never gotten water in them. It is just because the circuit relay gets so damn hot (the middle bulb holder) and fries it. Its the least of my complaints considering how reliable these trucks are mechanically.
I have a 2000 5.7 C2500 "Classic" Crew Cab, Short Bed. LS trim package. It has all the appearance of of the 96-99 Crew Cab, but was built the same year as the next gen body style's that dropped in 2000. It's awesome and I LOVE IT.
Loved this video! Had my '97 Silverado (second owner) since 2007 when it was under 100k miles--3.7l, regular cab long bed, every option, including a Posi-traction rear and dealer-installed dual-cat dual exhaust. Still less than 110k, I'm looking how best to upgrade audio/video systems. Great truck!
Nice video.. I've owned my 97 Chevy C-1500 "shortbed" w/t for the past 14 years and it's my baby for sure.. it had around 140,000 on it and today 313,500 and looks and runs if not better just as good as day one.. Awesome trucks..
Amen brother chevy for life 💪💯
Must be a pretty dull life
I have a 97 2500. It’s a tank 8ft bed
2wd
Best work truck ever
300xxxxxxx miles on my 1998 tahoe and I love it everything still works
I have a ford f150 with 200,000 miles but this made want to buy a chevy
The door handles do break occasionally. The big difference is not using the handle to pull the weight of the door
I replaces the alternator in the parking lot of an O'Riley with nothing more then 2 box wrenches they had in the back. Love this truck.
Try doing that with a Ford. 🙄
Had to do a tune up on mine at 282k last week :) 2wd 97 Silverado reg cab short 5.7 auto - now I'm back surprising everyone at red lights :) hahaha - just an ol work truck of my gpaws :) still kickin :) all original ;)
