    I know this is a old post. But I am wondering if you or any viewers can give me some advice on the crank gear position. There is about three positions it can fit on the crank and I presume it is each a 2 deg change to the crank Cam timing as a result ?. If there is a possibility that when reassembly was undertaken, that the gear may have been put on the wrong location, what could be the result with the engine when running?
    As I am wondering if a lack of power, economy from what should be around 7-8L/100km is now running more around the 12-14L/100km highway. Would there be any other noticeable issues?
    Without removing the front assembly to view the timing gears is there a way to check the cam and crank timing somehow?

    • @danielwilson6665
      @danielwilson6665 Před 2 lety

      Unfortunately that’s the situation with these engines if they aren’t maintained with reasonable oil changes or when they are high mileage survivors. The leaks, if any externally aren’t the problem. When internal bearing clearances are worn excessively, a new oil pump won’t help much if at all. Your noisy hydraulic lifters that rely on reasonable oil pressure for proper operation are telling you the bad news. An engine rebuild using quality components will restore the oil pressure along with some performance as well.
